Fertilizer improves the quality of crops (better chance of silver/gold star crops), which sell for more. Or when used to make jams/preserves are higher quality.

It's really not worth the effort though. Money is so easy to come by anyway, and as your farming level rises you get gold/platinum crops as a matter of course. Seems it only gives slightly better odds too - if it guaranteed platinum then I'd agree it's worth it, but it doesn't.

I didn't even bother with most of the fertiliser I was given as gifts in the end, let alone make my own!

eShop sale is even better in South Africa :)

If you want Arms digitally it works out at £32 and I've just paid 130Rand (£6.95) for NBA Playgrounds Enhanced. I used to love me some NBA Jam back in the day. Couldn't resist at that price. Sale is on until the 11th.

Did they patch in the game for that?

Any recommendations for decent, cheap joycon grips? Multiplayer Mario Kart is the least ergonomic experience I think I've ever had on a console.

.

Get the little steering wheel holders.

Does anyone know of a grip for the Switch so I can use it in handheld mode comfortably, but one which I don't have to remove each time I want to dock it? Something like the below but which only goes around the joycons themselves, so that it still fits and charges in the dock:

Revisiting my storage post from the other day, I've been keeping an eye out for a close to £30 128mb card.

I thought I might as well get rid of the global test punch / test fire as they were just taking up unnecessary space...

I listed this a few pages ago, but thought I'd add the space my Switch says they are actually taking up...

Digital Games:

Snipperclips - 1.4GB

Steamworld Dig 2 - 243MB

Overcooked - 976MB

Pinball FX3 - 335MB

Demos:

Project Octopath Demo - 687MB

Puyo Pop Tetris Demo - 693MB

Updates for physical games, and of course game saves:

1-2 Switch - 12.1MB

Zelda (including DLC) - 2.1GB

Splatoon 2 - 1.1GB

Arms - 935MB

Mario  + Rabbids Kingdom Battle - 270MB

FE: Warriors - 159MB

Mario Odyssey - 107MB

Mario Kart 8 - 64MB

Binding of Isaac - 29.7MB

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - 75,2MB

That gives me 16.3GB free - with updates and saves for 10 physical games, including DLC for 1, 4 digital games and 2 demos.

Frugal little thing isn't it!

I have the official ones, they are too small.  I've read (but not used, so can't personally recommend) that cheapo eBay ones are bigger, comfier, and therefore better.

For anyone who's interested, the answer to my question is "Not yet". There's a Kickstarter for one that some Australian guys are making, which looks good, but it's not available yet, so I've gone for the Orzly one I posted. Hopefully it'll stop me from getting pins and needles during length Stardew sessions.

I have something similar (Jetech I think it's called) and it really makes long handheld sessions comfortable. It comes off fairly easily so not too much bother to remove for use in the dock.

not sure what you mean but i think they've spruced things up since the original release. I've heard comments it looked really poor in handheld mode but it looks ok to me. I didn't play the original so i can't really comment. I'm enjoying it though. its not easy even on easy but well worth the £6.95. It also has great old school hip hop music. takes me back to the 80's :)

As an aside to my problems with the right joycon losing charge when connected to the switch when it’s powered off, I’ve also just seen that when I turn it on, there’s a fair charge showing for that joycon (ie about half/third). However, as soon as I disconnect it to go into wireless, the charge immediately shows as red and I get a warning pop up about the battery. Is this normal too?

No, contact Nintendo and arrange for it to be repaired or replaced.

Damn :( what’s the turnaround time for that?

The only other thing I can do is take it back to Argos and ask them to swap out the joycons for another set.

I think it's around a week to ten days. If it was just the antennae issue I'd suggest fixing it yourself but it sounds like a dodgy battery :(

Most likely Argos would insist on replacing the entire console, so you'd lose your saves. Try them though.

Have to say, I don’t think I’ve ever known a recent console have so many obvious design issues right out the box.

Firstly, you’ve got the dock which can scratch the console when you put it in there (and Nintendo made he decision to make the screen out of plastic that can easily scratch).

Then there’s the fact that you can’t charge the controllers when in tv mode without shelling out for an additional accessory. This is regardless of the sync and battery issues the joycons have.

Lastly, there’s the fact that saves are on the console itself, despite other competitors having had a solution for this for ages.

Some of the games on it are great, but having paid over £300 for it, I really feel these issues shouldn’t exist.

The scratch thing doesn't happen, or it'd be a massive issue and widespread complaint. I don't know anyone who's said they've scratched it with regular use. I'm certainly not prissy with mine and there's not a mark on my day one Switch.

The controllers last probably ten times as long as the Dualshock 4. I've never knowingly had to charge them.

The save thing is crap and they should have had a solution before launch, never mind nine months on. I'm lucky that I've had no problems with mine because 300 hours of progress on Isaac isn't easily replaced. I understand their reasoning though, as everything from the DS and Wii onwards has been incredibly easily exploited. I think for the Wii U these days, you only need an SD card and an browser link to steal games from the official Nintendo eShop, almost without a trace. I haven't done it but that's what I heard. They obviously want to get it right, along with the online/virtual console stuff and that's why we've still heard nothing, with reports it's to be further delayed. Again, no excuse, but that's an explanation, at least.

The scratch thing definitely does happen- the metal frame of mine was scratched after two days and I’m incredibly careful about slotting it in. After that, I got a glass protector, and that’s marked in the same spots as lots of other peoples’ are where it sits in the dock.

This again.

The dock cannot scratch the screen. The dock is not hard enough to do so. It physically cannot. There is scientific proof it cannot be done. It can no more scratch it than celery can scratch a diamond.

If your screen is getting scratched in the dock, there is something else in the dock scratching the screen. This is not Nintendo's fault.

The marks on the frame are definitelty scratches and cannot be removed.

The marks on the glass protector are very tiny scratches on identical places on both sides of the screen. You could argue that there are particles or something in there causing the scratches, but that’s something that could easily happen with that design of dock.

I don't get the controller charge thing. MS don't even give you a rechargeable controller, and Sony give you one that needs charged every couple of days, with a cable that trails out of the front of your console and looks ugly, and if you get move controllers, they don't even give you enough ports to charge them whilst keeping the VR unit plugged in, again to the front of the console.

Nintendo do controllers that last ages and charge neatly attached to the console, seems the best of the solutions right now, despite the ps4 and bone both having 1 face-lift and a higher cost pro variety.

I agree the plastic screen is silly, due to the risk of scratching, but a couple of quid on a screen protector sorts that.

Also, has xbox 360 RROD been completely forgotten about!

It’s maybe more of a personal thing with the controllers, but I’d rather have the default ones come with batteries I can replace- at the moment, if I’m playing in tv mode and the controllers are low on charge, I have no option other than to stop playing, or to switch to handheld mode.

For that amount of money, and considering they already have the solution, I’d expect them to include the charging grip with the console.

How many hours straight are you playing that they lose charge? Maybe you have faulty Joycons and need them replacing. We've played for hours and hours in a day without needing to charge or even have any signal we needed to charge.

They hold something like 17 hours worth of charge so unless you're just playing continuously without charging them you shouldn't be having these issues.
