I'm not sure it would hsve amounted to much. In the four years or so Wii U was on the market they didn't really find any meaningful use for the tablet screen beyond off TV play.

Nothing like a wiimote game changer, but there actually was some decent and meaningful use of the gamepad.

And they pretty much gave Link one to carry around with him in Breath of the Wild so they were up to something not insignificant there.

Simple map and item touching in Wind Waker HD was really ace by the way. You should get yourself a Wii U sometime and give it a play through.

I probably will one day, I've wanted one for ages but then they announced Switch so I just got that instead.

I think the problem is that beyond touch screen menus and maps etc. there's not a lot they could do gameplay wise, because it would then interfere with handheld (off TV) play.

Yeah, I think wanting to put the off TV option in was certainly a factor holding back the use of the two screens by developers, but there were one or two that didn't have off TV at all and there were games that used the gamepad in ways that made off TV a significantly downgraded experience.

I don’t think it’s real. It mentions a microphone at one point about 40 seconds in which the switch doesn’t have.

It also says "microphone not connected".

I'm about two hours into Stardew, on day 8. I've built the scarecrow and have been told I need to clear out the community centre and get to level 5 of the mine. I've spoken to everyone in the town except for some blonde bloke with glasses and the wizard. I've tried chatting up the teacher and gave her a daffodil. On the home front, I'm spending all of my money on different sorts of seeds, cutting down trees to get sap for fertilizer and wood for my chicken coop. I've got my eye on the backpack in the shop, and I'm really hoping there's the option to buy some roller skates at some point because the movement speed seems horribly slow, especially when you're up against the clock.

Am I doing it right?

Anyone have an issue with one joycon losing charge whilst attached to the switch whilst not in use? I’ve only noticed this since I bought a case and leave both joycons attached.

I leave the switch with joycons attached in the dock beforehand, everything’s fully charged, put it away in the case still with joycons attached. Then I go to use it a few days later, and the right joycon (tried it a few times and it’s always the right one), and it’s on red battery level. The left one is fine. It’s really annoying since means I then can’t use it on tv mode until it’s charged up again. I don’t really want to have to shell out more money for a charge controller when the console wasn’t cheap.

Is this another known fault like the joycons losing sync?

Never heard of that but I also never heard of anyone not leaving it in the dock when not in use.

I’ve always thought if I do that it’d deplete the battery life if it’s always on charge?

Mine largely lives in the Hori case, and I haven’t had that happen. Any chance one of the buttons was being held down by something in the case?

I don’t think so- it’s got in indentations for the triggers so it sits flush but it’s the same for the other controller, and it’s done that three times now. I’ll try it outside of the case and see what happens.

Occam's Razor says it's the case.

Any recommendations for decent, cheap joycon grips? Multiplayer Mario Kart is the least ergonomic experience I think I've ever had on a console.

Alternatively, I might try one of those adapters that lets you use an Xbox pad with the Switch - that way one person can use the pack-in dual joycon grip and one use an Xbox pad.

Yep - that all sounds pretty standard. No roller skates though I'm afraid.

Purely based on it not being shown in the video. I’m open to a surprise.

There were millions of things also not shown in the video though.

You don't appear to be running rather than walking, but aside from that, yeah.

Fertiliser is a waste of time/money/resources though I found. Barely ever used any.

What do you mean - is there a run button?

And thanks for the tip re. the fertiliser. What about scarecrows; do I need to place one every eight tiles? I've got two at the moment.

I think there’s an option to always run in the settings. Are you using the analogue stick or d-pad

Fertilizer improves the quality of crops (better chance of silver/gold star crops), which sell for more. Or when used to make jams/preserves are higher quality.

There's an option in the settings to "always run", but otherwise if you use the stick not the d-pad you'll run by default. Later, you can brew coffee which will let you walk faster for a time.

I didn't really bother with Scarecrows, only Rarecrows - they cover a massive area.
