the_debaser
There have been 6 Soul Calibur games? When did this happen, last I remember was the one of the GameCube with Link!

Mike S
Dark Souls on the Switch? Oh my... Just as I was about to start another run through on the PC too (a run through which is now postponed/potentially cancelled).
Bojangle
Can't wait for people to moan that the remaster isn't any good because Blighttown doesn't kill the FPS.

the_debaser
I don’t really like Dark Souls but such is the lure of the Switch, I may be willing to give it one more go.
Azrael
If there's going to be a Soul Calibur game on Switch it better have Link in it. Maybe a Xenoblade or Fire Emblem character too.
Marlew
For all the chat and rumours, until readily this stuff today, I never ever thought it would happen, and even less so under Miyazaki's watch. Having bought a One S primarily for DS BC, and having found that it not only holds up but remains my favourite game ever, I am absolutely ecstatic at the prospect of this. Lordran in my palm is even better than Skyrim in my palm.
mdn2
I very much doubt Dark Souls remastered will be a Switch exclusive though, right? Even though it's only been a Switch version which has been mentioned. Which means I'll have to buy two versions. One for the best looking version and one for on the go.

Benny
Zelda update: It's so good it's the first game in a while that I've actually been choosing to not play constantly, in order to really savour it. I think the last game that did that to me was Dark Souls. If that comes out for it too I might shat.

Switch owners should not be so sensitive. A comparison is made so you can see how many technical compromises have been made to port to the Switch. You have have some kind of benchmark to compare against. Xbox and PS4 versions are always compared with PC in the same way. You can be interested in enjoying games as well as the technical merits why is it either or with you guys. I love my Switch but in my case I’m going to prefer the best version of any multiplatform game so the PC version will be bought every time. Even though I have an hours commute into work.

Majora
He's right though, everyone knows what Digital Foundry do by now and they do it well. Even just aside from assisting in purchasing decisions, it can be really interesting to see how they get games running on the Switch. I have no intention of buying Wolfenstein 2 on the Switch but I would still find the inevitable comparison article interesting to see how they manage it (or don't). If there's not enough JOY and LOVE in their articles for your pixie dust sprinkled Switch then don't read them. They don't purport to do anything different from what they do.
ZOK
In more ‘I Can’t Stop Playing NEON CHROME’ news, I am really digging the way the game has nailed that trick of making you adopt a play style that you think is the one you are going to stick with for all time, and then subverting you without you noticing, by the class / weapon / ability / body modification roulette. I’ve been doing all my play-throughs as a Hacker, the obvious choice as hackers get a personal drone each level that fly round shooting everyone they can, and hackers can also loot crates off limits to other classes, so they get more stuff. So I’ve been blazing through the levels, running gunning and hacking like crazy. Then I noticed a couple of achievements you can get for doing a level without alerting humans / robots or firing weapons. So I have switched to the Assassin class, losing both my precious drone and bonus loot, but gaining the ability to remain unseen in shadows. I’ve then boosted this with a mod that gives me invisibility when not moving, and it’s changed the play through completely. Instead of running and blasting, I’m mooching around, launching sneak attacks left right and centre, and generally feeling like death from the shadows. Couple this with the ability to shoot through walls to slot targets and they don’t know what’s hitting them. Mostly. I’ve not played Mario Cars or Odyssey since I got this, it’s really got its hooks into me.
joffocakes
I love Digital Foundry stuff. It's always thorough and interesting. Plus it will go into depth in technical areas you won't get from reviews of a game as a whole which makes it useful for deciding purchases. I've never found it to be dry or joyless either. With Dark Souls I'd absolutely take a graphical fidelity hit for the convenience of playing on Switch. If the performance falls far short of the PS4 version however I'd get that instead (though I'd probably be less likely to play it on PS4 since I have Street Fighter V on there). Either way I hope the rumour is true because I never got around to playing Dark Souls properly back in the day.
SMD
Dunno why anyone feels annoyed by DF, their videos highlight the efforts (and restrictions) developers put in and face on all kinds of hardware. Loads of their videos show that sometimes good art style goes a long way to overcome technical deficiencies. Not to mention the admiration for some of the work that goes on in a variety of games. DF Retro is the best, mind you.
rgraves
1 hour ago, SMD said: Dunno why anyone feels annoyed by DF It's not that I feel annoyed by them, it's that somtimes they spend ages on the obvious stuff "(look, it's running in a lower resolution on Switch than on XBOX", "look if you zoom in on this texture it's lower res on Switch than on PS4") but then quite often very little on the things that would be important. Also, they are just the ultimate band-waggon reporters - whatever is the latest tech gets their juices flowing - and whatever is left behind is now rubbish, even if they were praising it to high-heaven the week or month before. I'll give you an example - the recent DOOM piece spent ages going on about how poor the resolution was and how poor the framerate could get - I believe a direct quote was "it looks like soup". Now I've played that DOOM port a lot, and I can tell you 100% it does not "look like soup" (that's just resolution snobbery of the highest order) and, while the framerate does take a hit in places, it's a long way from being noticeable at most points. It occasionally dips, it's something you occasionally see - not something which totally blights the game in they way they infer. So - I LIKE DF, I LIKE what they do - they just need sometimes to take a breath and not be so keen to shit on everything that's gone before just because a new resolution is in town. And also they need to be a bit clearer with analysis in terms of impact - yes you may have found a point where the FPS drops to 22, great - but if you had to trawl through hours of stuff to find that it's perhaps not the huge headline problem you often make it out to be. I repeat, I LIKE DF - they're not perfect though.

bradigor
Well that was super painless to get ready for Christmas morning. Picked console and Mario Odyssey up from Smyths, got it home and unpacked the Switch and Joycons (and charger). Booted up, set up an account for me and linked it to a Nintendo account, added an account for Lucas, updated in seconds and bought and installed Rocket League for him. Also, I love how well packaged it is, managed to get it all back in the box and bags without it looking like it'd even been touched.

They did say some nice stuff absolutely, but then they also stuck these gems in.... Quote the resolution is so low that the TAA ultimately results in a very blurry-looking game. The presentation holds up on the Switch's six-inch tablet-style screen - though resolution drops to around 576p here - but blow it up on your HDTV and it starts to break down into a soupy mess. What I played could not be honestly described as 'a soupy mess'. It's a lower resolution than some other games now sure, but it's not that bad. It just isn't. Quote At times, on a large TV, it looks as if you're playing an interactive compressed video rather than a real-time game. Really? Quote During any major fire fight, performance starts to drop below the 30fps line leading to a prolonged loss in fluidity. When this happens, the game speed itself seems to be impacted by it, leading to an almost slow-motion effect at times. Any major fire fight? Any one? Or just the odd occasional one? I AM being picky though. As I said, I like most of what they do. It's interesting stuff on the whole for sure.
