Apparently Marcus Sellars, who is the guy who reported that Bandai Namco would be having an event on the 15th with a huge Nintendo focus, tweeted that the Dark Souls 1 Remaster announcement would be happening there. The tweet was deleted but someone in this reddit thread screenshotted it-

No way Metroid Prime 4 is 2018. I can't remember the last time Nintendo announced a game by just showing a slide of the logo, it'll be 2019 at the earliest. Pokemon is a maybe, depends on if it's legit a brand new game or another updated Sun/Moon version.

I don't get this line of thinking - they have announced it as 2018. They've been pretty good recently at hitting the dates they announce. I see no reason to believe it's not going to hit 2018 if they have said it will. They only showed us a logo, we have no idea what else they have.

I'm excited to see more next year, and I believe we will - or else they'd have just kept schtum in the first place.

Nintendo never just announce stuff with a logo, the fact that they chose to do so indicates that they have fuck all to show. It's not their style to not have even a slither of in-game footage or target render footage to show off.

It was an announcement to please the hardcore fans, it's clearly still miles off. We still don't even properly know who's developing it. I'd bet a bollock on a trailer at E3 for a 2019 release.

That's pretty true. So I guess I ask with this one - why? It's not like they didn't have plenty of other stuff - stuff they've since shown a lot more of. They could have never shown that logo and it would not have really been a problem. But they did, they made that very conscious decision. Something made them do it, and it wasn't just to please the fans or they'd have popped out a Smash Bros logo or something instead that would have captured a much bigger market.

It's not in their nature to tease like this, so I guess I think (hope) they've not done it lightly...

Yeah we do, they confirmed it was in-house didn't they? Actually, no they didn't - all I can find is:

Nintendo’s Bill Trinen revealed at a group interview that the game is being built by a “talented new development team.” Not Retro.

Or alternatively they didn’t want to steal any thunder from their stellar Q4 software line up and are keeping their powder dry to reveal this next year.

They did it because they announced a 3DS Metroid after the E3 Direct. Could you imagine the fanboy uproar if they hadn't said Metroid was coming out for the Switch but a new 3DS game was coming? Especially a few days after a new Pokemon had been announced for the 3DS.

I think it was a statement of intent more than anything. A nod to the hardcore Nintendo fans that they haven't been forgotten about and that this time the focus would be on them rather than Nintendo trying to chase different markets like they did with the Wii and to an extent the Wii U.

The express have SEO on video games tied up pretty well, often near or at the top of news results.

And every headline is bad news. “Switch owners about to get upset by this” microsoft delivers the worst news for fans” .

Pah!

Is Oxenfree any good? It looks really good, and has good reviews too, but have barely seen it mentioned in these parts?

It's not a difficult adventure game, to be honest it's close to a walking simulator in that respect.

But it's a lovely one with plenty of choice and an engaging little story.

So first 30 minutes on Gear Club Unlimited.

It is pretty much the mobile game but with all the premium currency and timers removed in further of normal currency and some level gating.  Broadly I'd say the driving is similar but works better with actual controllers and it appears to have roughly the same content.

It actually suits the switch, at least in mobile mode.  The frame rate appears to match my 2017 iPad Pro's and there's plenty to do.

It's not the definitive driving game the platform is missing but based on the first 30 it's a very reasonable attempt at it.  I'll get my £30 worth.

Nine Parchments is out today, not Thursday as most of us probably presumed, because who actually pays attention to eShop release dates these days? It's better in singleplayer than that demo was. Anybody else planning on getting it, or is this is another case of me buying something on the off-chance that I one day have some friends to play stuff with?

Singleplayer and multiplayer have their own separate progression, because OF FUCKING COURSE THEY DO IN 2017.

Is that a good or a bad thing?

They actually don't, it just makes it sound as if they do. What actually happens is that you can play either single or multiplayer, but your progress in the story will reset if you switch. Your character continues learning things, though. It's a good thing in this case, although if this means getting matched up with fully-maxed and power-levelled idiots in 2 days time that 1-shot all the fun out of the levels remains to be seen.

Every review I've seen for Gear Club plays from the high chase camera - is there an in-car view?

So...family clubbed together as best we could and Lucas is getting a Switch this Christmas.

Got him one from Smyths which was £309 with Mario Odyssey.

I assume like any other modern console, I'll want to get it out and update it before Christmas so he can actually use the thing when he opens it?
