Everyone will say Splatoon 2 so I'll say Puyo Puyo Tetris. You can probably get it for about £30 somewhere and it's a good game to have. I was reluctant to pay that for a simple puzzler as I'm not hugely into the genre but it's worth it I think. Good for playing with people who might not want to play more gamey games with you and as always, it will grab you more than you might think when you reluctantly hand over the cash. If I had to give up one of my Switch games, I'd give up Splatoon before Puyo Puyo.

Not me. I hate pretty much everything about it.

I’d be picking up Stardew, Golf Story, and Steamworld Dig next.

I got the release list via Apple news from this site

https://www.thumbsticks.com/nintendo-eshop-releases-7-december-2017-12052017/

just assumed the list got published and was widely available, never heard of thumbsticks before so can’t vouch for its veracity.

apologies if anybody got excited about Christmas night archery coming out on switch if it isn’t.

A list does get published, but for the last 6 months or more not until Thursday each week. Wondering why it's suddenly early!

Unless someone just went through the eShop and looked at the dates, I suppose.

I'd ignored that one based entirely on the name, a mistake?

It's meant to be excellent, although I did pick it up on PSN just a couple of days ago for about £6.49. Back to £15.99 on there now though.

Finally got around to putting some proper time into Stardew Valley while traveling over the weekend and kind of struggled with it. With no real clear goal I was struggling to focus my energies and attention on anything. I planted some seeds, spent several days wandering around the town to very little effect and went down the mines for a bit. I wish it were a little more goal focused, at least at the beginning, to ease you into it because when I'm playing it I'm mostly just anxious that I'm screwing myself over by achieving nothing.

The Sexy Brutale is fantastic. I'm tempted to double dip just to have a portable version of it. Gonna wait and see how it performs first though.

Superbeat Xonic is great as well if you like your rhythm action games.

So I got Mario & Rabbids and Lego City. I'm nipping into town to buy Mariokart later and £20 eshop credit to buy FAST.

Any suggestions on other stuff (that isn't Mario or Zelda, I'll get them in the near future)

So I've promised my 5 year old son a Switch game for Xmas if he could swim a width unaided.  Amazingly, once offered the game as a reward he did it 1st time - I think he was holding back on us, the little rat.

So far he's only played 2 games - Mario Kart and Mario Odyssey.  In both games he plays using the easy mode - in Mario Kart I turn on steering assist and auto accelerate, and in Odyssey he plays as Cappy whilst I run about.  Hopefully that tells you something about his level of gaming - he's enthusiastic but not good yet with complex control systems.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  I already have Rabbids and whilst he likes watching me play that, he doesn't really understand how it works or how to control it.  Ideally it would be something I play with him.

You're given goals all the time at the start of the game. They pop up, or are in the post, or on the noticeboard.

Press - to see them all.

How is his reading? Good enough for Stardew Valley?

Otherwise, Lego City Undercover.

yeah, reading OK for a 5 year old, but he's pretty slow.

Lego City Undercover is a definite candidate - thank you.

Is Overcooked too difficult / manic for a young kid?

I got Lego City Undercover with my Switch and it's fantastic fun. Great drop in/drop out co-op mode as well for when he gets stuck.

So the general consensus on other message boards (sorry) seems to be that Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon are both slated for 2018. No way that's going to happen though is it?

Pfft, they'll be telling us Nintendo will ship a Mario and Zelda game in the same year next.

No way Metroid Prime 4 is 2018. I can't remember the last time Nintendo announced a game by just showing a slide of the logo, it'll be 2019 at the earliest. Pokemon is a maybe, depends on if it's legit a brand new game or another updated Sun/Moon version.

Yeah exactly. Just screams wishful thinking to me.

Nintendo have made a habit as of late to release games more closely to their initial announcements. The Pokemon and MP4 'reveals' just seemed to pander to a specific audience (us) in order to create more hype and goodwill. I can't see these coming out any time soon, especially as they literally only had the one logo for MP4 and... just some developer writing in a notebook for Pokemon?

Reading up on some of the rumours makes for fun times.  Apparently we're due announcements on:

- Dark Souls

- GTA V

- Metroid Prime 4

Pretty soon, if the hints are to be believed.

I'd have thought GTA V would be a given - it was built for PS3 so, like Skyrim, I imagine the Switch version would be somewhere in between the current and previous gens - but being handheld would just make it The Best.

I've owned GTA V on PS4 since release, but have only played the first hour or so because I just can't play those big games at home anymore and do them justice.  I'd love it on the Switch.
