Hmm. Gave Bomberman R some time this evening. It feels barebones now, after heaps of updates - I can’t imagine how it felt on release. I’ll give the local multiplayer a shot this week, but if that doesn’t click, it’s off to the trading folder.

There doesn’t seem to be anything in the game (or the box) explaining what any of the power ups do, or how mechanics like the revenge cart work. I thought there’d be a FAQ on Gamefaqs, but nothing.

Well I am the proud owner of a new Switch after picking up the Mario bundle during Black Friday, and it is indeed bloody lovely. Couple of quick questions:

Is it necessary to get a screen protector? I won’t be taking it out much, however my only real disappointment with the console is how wobbly it feels in the dock and I seem to remember reading it could get scratched taking it in and out. I’m looking at the Orzly ones.

Apart from the obvious (Zelda) what are the lesser known games I should be picking up? Stardew Valley looks a good fit for the console.

Feeling all chuffed and ready for xmas now.  My nephew is getting a Nintendo Switch from myself and his grandad for xmas this year so I spent last night creating an account for him (which I keep close tabs on), downloading Super Mario Odyssey which came in the bundle, buying and downloading Minecraft on his account as well as checking everything works and charging the console up.  Charged the Pro Controller I got him, put on the tempered glass screen protector I use on mine as well and checked the microsd card for the machine works (and just left it in).  Everything wrapped up (including Mario Kart which we got him as well, he loves playing mine) and ready to rock for xmas.  He's going to have a fucking amazing xmas day, can't wait.  Santa's also bringing him a few more Switch games as well such as Lego Super Marvel Heroes 2.

As well as that, got Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for myself for £30 from Argos due to the misprice, can't complain :hat:

Clicked on the link as I was curious to see how much Doom, Skyrim and another game would be and I just accidentally ordered them along with Bomberman – my German is not as good as I thought

Panic ensued and I think I've managed to cancel them. It worked out at £97 if anyone was curious, which is still quite pricey.

I'm now very close to buying a Switch Pro controller despite potentially faffing with repairing the Joycon, as I've been finding them uncomfortable for long stretches in Zelda anyway. You win this round, Nintendo.

Was reading that for right now you're best to go with the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 pro controller as it's got a fixed d-pad, in comparison to some of the normal pro controllers that some folks have been having issues with.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/apparently-the-xenoblade-2-switch-pro-controller-redesigns-fixes-the-d-pad.9249/

EDIT - Reading more of that thread seems like a few folks are even having problems with the Xenoblade Pro Controller as well.

What's wrong with the dpad on them ?

People get extra inputs on their dpads, like registering an additional left or right press while holding down.

I much prefer the JoyCon dpad when playing a game that needs more accurate inputs, like Street Fighter.

For the love of God, can we add an FAQ to the first post, answering the constant questions about screen protectors, left joycons, best cases and so on? It will make everyone's lives easier.

Edit: Here, @deKay, I'll even do it for you - just quote this into the first post or something.

Do I need a screen protector?

Up to you. If you're going to use the switch undocked a lot, or intend to take it out and about, it's better to be safe than sorry.

This orzly one is cheap and comes recommended

Do I need a case?

The switch is a robust little thing, but if you're planning to take it with you when you go out, and intend to chuck it into a bag, a case is probably a safe bet.

This tough shell Hori one is recommended

The other official Nintendo ones are pretty good, and come in a number of themes

Just make sure you get one with little pockets for the cartridges, because they're tiny and liable to fall out of a case without you noticing otherwise.

Is the pro controller essential?

Essential, no. Preferable to the joycons or grip thing? Definitely. It's a great controller, but it's expensive. Many people swear by it. But it isn't essential as everything is perfectly playable without it.

My left joycon drifts/isn't responsive - help!

A known and, unfortunately, fairly common issue. There are two ways to fix it:

Send it back to Nintendo for repair.

This is free, but takes a couple of weeks. Literally all they do is put a piece of conductive foam inside.

Option 2 - Fix it yourself.

You'll need some conductive foam

And a tri-wing screwdriver

Follow a video guide like this one

What are the best games?

S tier

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Super Mario Odyssey

These two are stone cold classics.

The rest of the tiers are subjective, but mine would be:

A tier

Splatoon 2

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

B tier

Mario + Rabbids (yes, really and no, none of us could have predicted it'd be as good as it is, either)

Arms

Everything else

There are hundreds of games available already. You're bound to find something you like.

Essentially, unless it's a big budget, multi-platform, visually stunning extravaganza, it's probably better on switch. Because everything is better on switch.

Needs a bit about charging cables and portable battery packs...
