Do you know if it helps to have played XC1 and XCX to enjoy 2? Or is it numbered Final Fantasy style?

All I know about Xenoblade is my Shulk amiibo.

I've also got a cheap Argos reservation just in case, but I'm wary. Don't want to be caught up in a load of shit I don't understand from not playing the two previous 50-hour epics.

Not that I'm aware of - if it's anything like XCX, they're not related at all - but have similar gaming systems and alien races

I can't see it holding true for much longer. There are already far too many games coming out at once to keep up with and the eShop isn't great for discovering older games.

You're right there's a glut at the moment but I still think that indie games and arcade type games will continue doing well on Switch. I think people just appreciate being able to play their 'inbetween games' whenever and wherever they like. The same was true on Vita only Sony wasn't able to fully support that console properly.

I think they’ve done a terrible job trying to sell Xenoblade. Every video I’ve seen makes it look utterly impenetrable.

The trailers I watched on the Switch itself left me wondering what kind of game it is, exactly.    And also left me feeling a little bit embarrassed by the cheesy anime stuff.

Yeah, I like the look of all their games but then when I come to play them, there's always something missing* I mean "difficult top down shooter roguelite"? Shove a big arse on it and I'm hearing wedding bells.

*Xenoraid is the exception to the rule there, though I did feel sufficiently guilty for judging it so harshly from the trailer after the dev turned up and was so polite, that I did try it out. Unfortunately, it was as bad as it looked.

I don’t think it’s too difficult as a game, which is good for me as my interest in bullet hell died decades ago. It’s just got a nice solid feel to the fairly pedestrian shooting.

It reminds me of Smash TV for some reason.

Pretty much, yup... I'm watching one of my favourite Twitch streamers play it though, and he makes it look a lot more accessible and fun.

Well I'm into that so whatever. (Could you tell from my avatar?) I find if you just relax, try and view it from the Eastern perspective (especially most of the stuff with boobs) it's really fun.

Yeah just try and view it from the perspective where sexualusing and objectifying young girls is ok ;)

I used to love cheesy anime stuff!! It just all feels a bit samey 20 years later..

Yeah, I'm a bit nervous about this game's apparent waifu-factor. I struggled to keep Sharla and Seven sufficiently dressed in the original (avoiding the optimum gear at times to do so), but it sounds like the costumes are fixed in this one, barring weaponry. Plus Pyra looks like she's been to whichever surgeon Taki visited between Soul Caliburs 2 and 3.

I just want to be able to occasionally play it on the TV at home without getting looks from my wife or having my daughter ask why they're all in knickers.

That's not what I said but also we arguably do that in Western culture too soooooo

I was playing devils advocate. I put up with it but I'm not entirely comfortable with it, and it does appear to be far more prevalent in Japanese games, and particularly in it's depiction of female characters with their big doe eyes making them look younger. It's a bit dodgy.

Do you think small children can play it easy enough?

I honestly couldn't tell you as far as gameplay is concerned. It all comes down to their own reaction times and err, rhythm hehe. The first few levels have been easy enough but I can see the difficulty ramp up quickly. Not even 20 mins in and it's already throwing curve balls at me, literally.

But for what it's worth it's charming as hell, what with the cute cartoony art style and animations, so definitely suitable for them kiddos! :)

EDIT: D'oh! Yeah the demo would be a good way of finding out I suppose. :P

Decided to expand my Switch collection yesterday via the eShop:

VVVVVV - one of my all-time faves and this is the third platform I've bought it on. Ran through it in about an hour and loved it as much as ever.

Steamworld Dig 2 - heard a few rumblings about this so decided to give it a go. Wow, it's excellent! Reminds me of Spelunky but a lot more gentle and without the roguelike element that gives me anxiety. Played until about 2am last night, and been dipping in on my day off today. Very, very appealing.

Thimbleweed Park - not even played it yet, too much Steamworld!
