ZOK
I bought a top-down ‘shoot up the rooms’ cyberpunk thingummy from the eshop called Neon Chrome for a tenner, seems like good fun so far.
Spacehost
The Switch should be ideal for vertical shooters, just rotate it 90 degrees and play with the controllers detached.

Alexlotl
Christ, I’ve bought consoles that cost less than the Pro Controller. Is it worth it? I quite like the look of the Xenoblade 2 one…

Strikers 1945 (+ Gunbarich) and Namco Museum do exactly this. Perfect for Galaga 88 (best Galaga).
Mars
I’ve been offered a switch, without the dock, with Zelda for £165... that’s a bargain, right?! It’s not a nicked one before anyone asks

I find it immensely annoying that you can't simply play vertically with the pads docked like you could with the Lynx. The switch can't support itself vertically. It's such a stupid oversight. geldra
How d'you mean? I've just been using the switch vertically on a stand with one of the joy cons undocked, like a nes pad.

jonamok
Unless you mostly play undocked and/or you’re happy with the joycons.
joe bazooka
Guys, don't wanna see anymore conversation about screen protectors, cases, charging options and the merits of the pro controller. That's just a heads up. Somebody comes along asking if they should get a pro controller you just tell them to figure it out themselves. They're adults.

robdood
I love the joycons, detattched!! They are so lovely. I'm weird and I don't even put the strap things on though, they make them just a bit too wide to be comfy to hold! They're so dinky without them that I almost forget I'm holding them Arms-anywhere gaming FTW.

Mars
Yep, I know... but I can buy a dock for £40, so I would be getting a switch with Zelda for £205, which can’t be bad?!

robdood
@Mars what about the other bits that come in the box? charger, usb c, the joycon grip? The only way I can guess that someone didn't notice the dock is if they didn't lift the top part of the packaging... which is where all the other bits are.. Luseth
What a donut! Some people are unbelievably stupid. Isn't the dock shown on the front of the box? Why would you not question why everything on the front is not in the box....

Mars
Oh, I'm getting it, don't worry! Really wanted a switch so was saving based on a £300 package with a game sometime next year, but this can't be refused... I figure he doesn't deserve it
Isaac
My little sister is getting this for Christmas (she's 13) which surprised me, as she's not really a big gamer, beyond loads of Minecraft. She wants Splatoon 2, but besides that, what games would you recommend for a 13-year-old who doesn't really play games that often? I suggested Mario and she really didn't seem that bothered... T Pot
Anyone thinking of swapping their JoyCon shells, there's a UK seller on Amazon selling them for less than £15 with both normal & D-Pad versions:

Just get her Mario. She'll be forced to try it. It's so lovely. Any kids I've shown are completely mesmerized by it.

Minecraft, obviously. But maybe Rocket League? It's popular with streamers and all that. Or possibly Steam World Dig 2?
