I'm stupid so please explain power settings.

Over the weekend I'd just put into sleep mode.  I don't get to play much in the week so on Sunday evening I pressed the power button for the prescribed three seconds and switched it off (this is all when it is docked)

When I left for work on Monday morning I switched the power off at the wall but noticed that the screen lit up for a few seconds whilst still docked.

Is the console still switched off or does it fall back and rely on the battery?

I only ask because unless I bought a dodgy North Korean rip off the manual was the thinnest pamphlet ever and explained nothing.

Thanks.

I'm not sure how you 'hard' power down, tbh. It sounds like 3 seconds does not do that.

When you turn it off at the wall it behaves like you've picked it up from the dock, ie it turns itself on.

SWitch got and setting up.

Was about to go have a look on the store, but I;m noticing the wifi is awful.

It is dropping from 2 bars to 1 to none.  Now I'm farish away from my route and extender, but my laptop and Ipad have all got full signal. Is the Switch Wifi a bit crap or have I got a bad one?

Yes, Switch wifi is just shit

Do you have 5g? I find it works better when further away on 5g, bizarrely.

The Parental Controls on the Switch are great, for reasons that have nothing to do with parenting. Once they’re set up, you can see your daily play time on the iPhone app, which is neat.

But best of all, I can set a 10:30PM hard cutoff point, at which point the console auto-suspends, to make sure I actually go to bed. You get nice in-game overlay warnings each minute for 5m prior to the cut-off, giving you time to save (if necessary).

Self-control more than parental control, but I’m glad it’s there.

I bought the official Splatoon carry case and I'm not massively impressed. It costs a fiver more than the hori one, but feels a bit flimsy and like it'd only protect the console from a light breeze. The whole purpose is so I can chuck (read: place gently) it in my work bag.

Think I'll return it for the hori one.

I was looking to save battery life so went with this (5 not 3)

Although the whole 'thinks I've picked it up from the dock' makes perfect sense.

Thanks.

Put a screen protector on it and just put it in your bag.  It's a pretty robust little thing.

They do on routers, 2g and 5g.

2.4GHz & 5GHz - Not the same thing as 2G & 5G.

Another happy Hori Case owner here. Holds the switch + joycons, five game cards (plus one in the Switch) and has an elastic loop to hold a.n. other thing - a pair of joycon sliders fits, as does a set of earbuds or a USB-C charge cable. Nice mushy/hard duality thing going on, and pretty compact - goes very nicely in my manbag (Tom Bihn Medium Café Bag, EDC fans). Only complaints are that the elastic strap is a bit fiddly to slide the joy-cons under sometimes, and that once a cart is slid into the storage sleeves, all you can see is the identical Nintendo Switch red stripe on each one, so you can't tell which is which.

Where did you get your bag from?

(this is on topic as I need a bigger work bag so I can bring my Switch to work!)

But... but... will it be okay?!

My work bag has a laptop compartment in it so I just chuck mine in there without a case.  Having to take it out of the case and put it away again as I transferred between trains was a real ball ache.  Now it's winter the switch actually fits in my coat pocket which is even better for the commute.

Direct from Tom Bihn's website for my birthday about 15 months back. Postage hurt a bit from memory, but it's a really top-notch bag, best I've ever had. Incredibly slim and compact looking when empty, but capable of holding a really surprising amount if asked. Never leave home without it.

So would people recommend a screen protector and case for this? What's the best to get if so?

Oh God yes. The screen is plastic, vs. the sort of insanely scratchproof glass you have on modern phones and tablets, it'll scratch fairly easily. I've got the official basic case and it's pretty decent just for holding it, that came with a screen protector (which was a complete nightmare to put on, but there you go).

I have never, for even one second, considered getting a Screen Protector. The HORI case is more than good enough, and before I bought it I actually simply stuck my Switch inside a wool hat in my bag to stop the screen from getting scratched.

I've also never bothered with Screen Protectors for phones, nor have I ever put one into a case. Does everybody else just throw their electronics around or something? I think I got a small scratch on my original iPhone (3G) screen about 2 years through its lifespan, but other than that have never had any reason to think about additional care for my devices.

What's the best switch dealat the moment? Preferably bundled with mario odyssey

Your timing of this question is unfortunate.

Unless anyone finds otherwise, the best at the moment for the Mario bundle might be £320 from Toys R Us.

It's a plastic screen, though. I've never bothered with one for any device with a glass screen but I don't trust a plastic display to withstand five or six years' worth of use.

I wouldn't have but I got scared by reports of some people getting scratched in the dock. The ORZLY one is like £4 including a spare, glass, easy to apply and I guess fine but since I did it at the start I don't really know what having it 'naked' would be like.

1 - My switch has stopped working again when docked (its charging ok) - I tried unplugging everything, but its still knackered. Is there a fix for this?

2 - Anyone played Resident Evil Revelations 2 yet? Is it a decent port?

From what i have seen RE Rev2 looks pretty good. Co op as well isn't it? If anything some people are saying graphically it's the best version.

I can't remember if i have it on steam from a bundle. Not quite sure i want to spend full price on it otherwise.
