Anyone still think they should be going third-party?

Absolutely yes. They would make an absolute killing. 50 million installed PS4 consoles is a massive market to tap into. I love my Switch and am very happy it's going brilliant but there is still a long way to go.

The reason the Switch is so successful is because they have full autonomy. Supporting multiple platforms at once is something they said they want to move away from, even when they're their own platforms. Supporting PS4 completely removes that control that they now have.

Besides, many indie games are said to be performing better on Switch than any other platform, including PC and PS4. Imagine what it could become as the install base grows even bigger.

This is Nintendo's iMac moment.

It absolutely could be that moment. They simply cannot support two Nintendo platforms which they have been struggling to do for so long due to intermittent third party support.

If Nintendo stick with the Switch model, it will undoubtedly be a success because they have finally consolidated they biggest market into a playable home system too.

Let's hope it happens, I want it to happen.

And it's not just that: healthy competition is good. I would rather not have one clear market leader as that seems to breed arrogance going forward.

I agree with this. It's why I'm excited by murmurs about new Microsoft IP and deals with Indies etc. It's all healthy because it forces them to innovate and be creative.

Yeah I agree with all that.

It's not that I wanted them to go third party, I just felt they lost so much market penetration over the years and spreading themselves so thinly might not have helped. Nintendo home consoles haven't been performing since the SNES, bar the unexpected success of the Wii.

With 3DS sales being strong, but way less than DS and GB families, I felt Nintendo needed to focus to one platform or go third party.

For sure, Nintendo wasn't that nice when they dominated to an extent with SNES/ Super Famicom.  I kinda like them with their backs to the wall and go on tangents that ends up pushing the industry along with them.  They would lose a bit of their identity on a console like PS4, the industry will become pretty drab if they become just another big publisher.  Nintendo tend to cover their risk pretty well though, it never felt they have could go under I even when a console underperforms.

With the physical v digital debate on the switch.  I'm expecting my new Switch next week or so with Mario Odyssey.  With Zelda the Explorer edition would easily push me to physical, but that isn't out here.  Is anyone expecting something similar to come out in the UK in the near future?

here you go folks

as with anything custom made I warn you the prices are not for the uncommitted.

I assume you were both asking about the joy cons and not Mario's trunks.

Really want those Game Cube ones...

Dicing with customs charges I guess too with them coming from the states.

But so pretty....

Shoulda been a yellow right stick for maximum Gamecube vibes.

Nintendo are leaving money on the table by not doing proper retro joycons. Gamecube VC with actual Gamecube joycons would do well with the enthusiasts.

I really hate Nintendo.

Zelda will probably knock Skyrim from the top my 'favourite game ever' list, Mario is a big fat bundle of happiness, the Joy Cons are lovely but the final insult is I can play Stardew Valley on the bus.

Stupid Nintendo.

Xenoblade is out on Friday :D

Where is the best bet to get this early? Shopto? Simply Games? I have a long train journey on wednesday so would love to get it then, or before.

Has anyone seen any review scores for it yet? It does look beautiful.

Probably Simply, I know they got Odyssey to a few people on the Wednesday although it'll more than likely be Thursday.

I’m sorry if I spammed anyone with an invitation notification from the Nintendo online app, I was trying to give people a heads up that I was heading online for some turf war on Splatoon. I think it let me invite everyone who has the app installed, not just people who own Splatoon.

Head to the Splatoon thread if you’re interested in bandying notifications about.

They look a lot lighter (better) in the flesh than they do in that Etsy photo.

I already have two pairs and a pro. I don’t need these...

Anyone else looking forward to visiting family this Christmas, safe in the knowledge the Switch will be coming along?

Hoping the Zelda DLC will be out in time otherwise might have to pick up Xenoblade for the Christmas game.

I'm the host on Christmas Day this year and I'm looking forward to forcing family to make idiots out of themselves playing 1-2 Switch before battering them on Mario Kart 8

In reality I'll be running around like a nutter all day getting more and more flushed before finally settling down with a nice single malt around 9pm and then falling asleep watching Call The Midwife.

New switch owner here!

Am I missing something with the eShop? There's no categories (beyond chart/recent, so no way to view all Strategy or Racing games), no Cart feature that I can see (so if I want to pay for multiple games via credit card I have to do each one individually) and no store website that I can find.

It can't be this basic, surely?
