Nintendo Switch

So I'm gonna be that guy. I've just ordered one of these SD cards. Will it be ok for the Switch?

I managed to pick up Splatoon 2 for a very nice price from a fellow forumite. Looking forward to that, and then a week later XC2, although I'm not allowed to play that until the big day ;)

Seriously tempted by LA Noire. I know some people don't rate it but everything I've watched relating to it looks great, and I love the period setting. Will perhaps wait until the new year though  in case it pops up in a sale. And at least I'll have the storage capacity for it now.

Nintendo's sales are always terrible, it's not just because the Switch is relatively new. Still, I can't fault the fact that they've managed to avoid the race to the bottom. PS4/Xbox One owners are practically conditioned to wait for sales these days.

Probably also explains why indies are doing so well. No Plus/Games With Gold equivalent means no player base who hold off buying indies just in case they turn up for 'free'. It may not necessarily result in the best value for the consumer but software still has the perception of value on the platform.

As it was only £15 i took a punt on mantis - it had reviewed ok on other platforms and crossplay made me think it must be very similar

initial view is very promising - handling not too tight or loose and looks quite pretty. seems to be a lot to do too with a single player career,  vehicle mods and all sorts of online and local player options.

Initial view is seems ok and not got a feeling i lobbed £15 down drain

Mantis looks pretty great, seems there’s been some thought put into the Switch port too, the various split screen options look good! Like Rocket League, it is cross platform mp.

Also, there’re some decent deals on the US store right now compared to yesterday.

Ah crap. Somehow I accidentally bought one of these from Argos trying to order a toilet seat, and on the way to return it I slipped, it fell out of the box, onto a screen protector, Mario fell into the cartridge socket, and it landed in my bag when I went to work this morning. Oh well, guess I’m keeping it.

Clumsy chap. You should also make sure not to accidentally order a load of other games.

Nintendo have absolutely fucking smashed it. Imagine being any other developer and seeing Nintendo take you to school, releasing two of the greatest video games of all time within months of each other.

5 of the greatest videogames of all time

This is all so true, but I would argue it is fantastic for the consumer. Game prices haven't increased with inflation for decades. They've got around that with loot boxed, gambling and splitting up games into super collectors editions. These do not have the consumers interests at heart and are far more damaging than paying rrp.

Nintendo software holding value, and the lack of playstation plus meaning that indies hold value, keeps all that nonsense at bay. I still buy a game.

The upgrade system in Mario+Rabbids is the perfect example of how a game designed for maximising fun because it will hold value, differs to one that allows you to 'accelerate the experience'.

Had a strange problem with my left joycon last night. It was attached to the console and worked fine in the menu but as soon as I started any game no buttons on it worked at all. Reattaching did nothing and the only solution was to register the controlllers again in the controller settings menu. Very strange!

Is the portable home console hybrid this going to be Nintendo's niche forever now then?

I can't see Sony trying to go after the Switch after the vita didn't really take off and they're probably making enough from PS4 to not really feel threatened.

I also can't see Microsoft getting into the portables market either, seems too far away from what they do best.
