New stages are on the way

Four new stages will be rolling out in the coming weeks, starting with MakoMart this Saturday!

 

MakoMart is a huge supermarket that sells all its products in bulk. Inklings usually go shopping there with their teammates to buy massive hauls and divide it up later. Pretty thrifty!

 

Another brand new stage called Shellendorf Institute, and two returning fan favourites, Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall, will also be released soon. We’ll follow up with a full report on these stages once we have more intel.

 

New Salmon Run stage

MakoMart might not be ready until Saturday, but don't fret! A new Salmon Run stage, Salmonid Smokeyard, will be available immediately after downloading this Friday's update!

 

On this stage, a wide gap on the beach divides two platforms, with fan lifts being the quickest way to traverse the two platforms. After many unsuccessful trial runs, our scientists have concluded that teamwork will be required to use the fan lifts effectively.

 

More gear to customise your Inklings

Judging from our calculations, 140 pieces of gear are being added to Splatoon 2 this Friday. This includes clothes, shoes, headgear (like a motocross mask), additional winter clothing (perfect for the cold weather!) and returning items from the original Splatoon.

 

Two new bands are making waves in Inkopolis! The punk-flavoured Bottom Feeders (pictured) and classically-trained avant-garde-style Ink Theory are contributing new tunes for you to enjoy while you’re out there claiming turf!

 

Swish new hairstyles

A new wave of hairstyles are starting to become quite trendy among the Inklings. Check out the new styles that’ll be available in-game starting this Friday.

 

New ways to get snap-happy with amiibo

After downloading the software update, you and your amiibo (sold separately) can pose for in-game photos at pre-set locations in battle stages. You can even pose with your favourite weapons and slap a fun filter on your best snaps. The interns at the lab are a bit obsessed with this stuff…

 

More convenient ways to swap gear

Players who want to change gear between battles in Regular Battle, Ranked Battle and Splatfest Battle (Solo) won’t have to exit to the lobby anymore! After downloading the update, gear can be swapped out without leaving the match room, making it quicker to get back to splatting. For Regular Battle, this also means you can play the next battle with the same players.

 

The level cap has been raised

Currently, Inklings can max out at level 50. After downloading the update, the new max level will be raised to 99. If you talk to Judd when you reach Level 99, you’ll have the option to reset and have your level display as Level ★1 so you can continue raising your level.

 

We’ve covered quite a lot already, and it looks like we’re not done just yet! A second free software update, which will include a new Ranked Battle mode is also coming in mid-December.

 

Clam Blitz – coming mid-December

In Clam Blitz, competing Inklings are tasked with collecting clams scattered around the stage. After one is picked up, the clam weirdly follows you. Your objective is to throw the clam into the basket near your opponent’s base. The first team to score 100 points wins!

 

What a day for science! Two free software updates packed with loads of new content and new ways to splat are heading to Splatoon 2 on November 24th and mid-December respectively. They’re sure to keep things fresh!

That looks awesome! Not mentioned in the video is that you can now change weapons between rounds and the level cap has gone up to 99! (I'll never get there hehe). Best of all Walleye Warehouse is back! That new clam collecting ranked mode is intriguing, not sure I quite understand it but I bet it'll be brilliant.

Screen protectors - yay or nay, and any recommended ones? How do they adhere, with glue around the bezel? Any issues with it melting when the switch warms up?

 

I loathe the things on smartphones, but they already have hard glass screens.

I am using the screen protector that came with the official switch case I bought.  

 

It sticks without glue.  I'm not sure how it works.  I'd rather have it there to protect from minor scrapes etc, it makes no difference while using the Switch. 

 

I'm confused about the last bit though - the Switch also has a hard glass screen?

The Switch screen is plastic but tough plastic, in my experience you don't need a screen protector, I've used mine loads since launch and it doesn't have so much as a hairline scratch on it.

Hard plastic, as I understand it, and potentially scratchable. Sounds like Nintendo had to choose between the risk of screen shattering and screen scratching, and chose the latter. Or maybe it's just cheaper.

I have an Ozrly tempered glass screen protector on mine. Piece of piss to install and can't even notice that it's on.

There's no harm in applying a screen protector just in case the dock scratches the screen, which would have happened to mine after the first day if I hadn't have put the protector on.

Sure. But it's a lot easier to replace than the actual screen?

All updates to Splatoon have been free. Both on the original on WiiU, and on 2 so far.

They’re free. There were only 6 maps or something upon release of Splatoon 2 though.

Of note is the fact that the current big updates won't be the last. Nintendo have said they'll support the game with free DLC a year after release and host splatfests until 2 years after launch. For the DLC that means you can expect up to july 2018 to see more updates like this. Splatfests until July 2019.

 

The game comes highly recommended. The first one was an absolute blast on Wii U and 2 only continues the awesomeness.

Anyone who plays Fifa on the switch, do you find that the ball never goes to the player you want it to. It does not feel as fluid and good as Fifa did on Xbox one.

Yeah, maybe the increased thickness coupled with the softer material the protector is made of could have attributed to the scratch. Either way I'm glad the protector is on there after seeing so many others without the protector falling victim.

 

I've had the shittiest of luck with all of my new items over the past ten years despite doing my absolute best to take extreme care of things. I'd rather buy stuff second-hand and pre-blemished, given the option.

I am so in love with this console at the moment its the only thing I want to play games on - I have to say that its so perfect for me that I am actually not playing games like Everybody Golf purely because they aren’t on this.

 

It feels so painful to power up the ps4 and wait for a game to load for a few minutes, and even worse once you start you have to get to a point where you can save or stop playing tidily.

 

Switch feels like the Netflix moment for gaming not in terms of the buying model - but the fact you can consume/play for exactly the period of time you have and just pick up where you left off at any time.

Yeah I'm with you on this.  The fact that I can literally pick it up, press a button and immediately be back in Skyrim is pretty amazing!!

I'm totally with @Gotters all of my gaming time is now Switch related, I keep getting txts of "you coming on Destiny mate" and thinking, do I get Up, walk over to the desk, turn my console on, or shall I stay say here on the comfy seatee playing Skyrim in the palm of my hands.....

 

One thing I do want is to get a couple of easy pick up and play for 20 minutes type games, I've got a load of big sprawling session adventures ie Skyrim, Zelda but I'm lacking in games for 20bmins before tea or in bed before sleep, I'm thinking Rocket League for that, anyone got any other reccomendations ?

I'm with you on the convenience thing, but in rest mode the PS4 behaves pretty much the same as the Switch does. Wake it up, open the game you're playing and you're instantly back where you left off. When you're done, suspend the game and stick it back in rest mode, just like the Switch.

 

The Switch is somehow even faster though.
