It arrived!! Downloading Breath of the Wild now. It's such a lovely piece of kit that I'm almost surprised it was made by a Nintendo.

Just wait ‘til your dock warps, the handheld bends, the screen gets scratches and the Bluetooth on your joy con cuts out. But yeah, the hardware is indeed very lovely :D

There's a comparison video up of the skyrim port and it's looking good. Seem's to have a lot of the textures from the remastered versions but lower IQ than the PS4/Xbox one versions. However, some of the bugs present in those versions are not in the switch one which is nice. Also seems like framerate is a solid 30 fps.

When compared to the previous gen versions it is a step up in a number of ways, textures and foliage detail are much improved. Also resolution is a touch higher, but not the 1080p of the PS4 version, seems either a solid 720p or maybe 800p. Hard to tell from the video.

All in all, seems like a good job.

As much as I’m the most excited person in the world for Skyrim on Switch, the only thing that video tells me is that textures, resolutions etc. Are completely lost on me.

I watched that video from start to finish and can honestly say for the vast majority I couldn’t see the difference between any of the formats. I wonder if it’s something to do with me being terribly colourblind. Maybe I can’t process the differences as quick as what others can, or maybe I’m just a bit thick.

Either way, a Skyrim experience that plays aswell in the palm of my hand as it did on Xbox One and PS4, with no bugs, and all the DLC, gets me very, very excited.

Fallout next please Bethesda.

Are you watching on your phone, perchance?  I mean the difference is pretty stark to me between say, Switch and PC 2011 within the first 30 seconds of the video!

Use 4K option on youtube even if your computer monitor is smaller, it improves the image sharpness.

You're not alone - I'm pretty much the same. I mean I can see there are differences obviously, but I find them to be not massive or distracting etc. Unless running side-by-side I'd really not raise an eyebrow most likely. Other people look at that stuff and it apparently kills games for them. The idea they are not seeing everything in the best possible way niggles away at them  - in a lot of ways I'm really glad that's not me to be honest.

Doom is a great example, I'm playing it on Switch currently - and I think it looks great - I'm having an absolute belter of a time with it. But I see other people describing it as terrible, super-blurry, 'like soup' etc - I just don't see that at all - I mean not that long ago the resolutions that Doom is using would have been top-end stuff!

I think we have more of a divide now than we've ever had - at the top the 4k, HDR folks are pushing forwards with some really nice stuff, and the arms race in terms of console power is driving that as they want to sell more hardware. But there is also a massive base of people that are just not ready (or don't see the immediate need) to invest in 4k right now. I'm not sure how long it will take for that to reach critical mass and be standard, but it feels a long way off right now to me - I think a lot of people got burned with 3D and are perfectly happy with what they have for the time being.

I can't see much difference either.   I can see differences but rarely can I tell which is meant to be better.  Mostly it looks like some versions are bit lighter/darker.   It's only really on some of the PS3/360 clips where it looks blurry.   Certainly the Switch version looks as good as any other to me.

I am to be fair bud yeah. I can obviously see some difference, for instance there was one frame where there was a man in the distance on the Switch version but on the 360 version you could hardly make out it was a person.

Its when it zooms in to say the floor, I’m not sure wether it’s due to me being colourblind but I find it really hard to differentiate between the images, if you were to put them side by side and say pick the Switch and the 360 there’s a high chance I would get it wrong.

Its almost defiantly just me.

Edit - thanks guys, glad im

not alone / weird.

Boo @VN1X!  Fair enough I'm not enthused to play Skyrim again (tho I am leeching excitement from people here..) it's pretty mindblowing that we have a handheld that can do games of this scope.

Even more mindblowing that it took Nintendo to make a viable Android gaming device!

You're not being weird!! :D  I can see the differences but they're not going to impact the game in much of a meaningful way.

The biggest difference seemed to be the resolution / appearance of distant trees/etc..  Something that you'd basically never notice, in handheld mode especially!

Switch version looks sharper/nicer than the PS3/360 version though!

Image quality looks bobbins on Switch. As in, it's around PS3 level. The improvements are going to have to come from frame rate and load times; the two things that made the PS3/X360 versions suck a fat one. I don't have much faith in team Bethesda fixing this on Switch.

I'm interested to see the reviews but disappointed that they've added no new content so re-buyers have something to look forward too.
