Cross post from the Skyrim thread, but does anybody know if I buy Skyrim digitally, will it load faster than from the cart? And do I need a memory card or will it fit on the internal memory? I’ve not downloaded anything else.

Right, I think I've got the answer to this.

The Nintendo Switch only offers 32 GB of internal storage, but a video report from Digital Foundry shows that the system's internal memory offers the fastest download speeds when compared to using a dedicated game cartridge or an additional MicroSD card.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will take up 14.3GB of space. That’s according to a listing on the European eShop, which was just recently updated.

So that means I should go digital, right?

That'll depend - remember some of your internal storage is already taken by the OS - and then even more is taken by any save files you have (these always go to the internal memory) - so check carefully that you have the required space before you take the plunge.

That said, I've gone all digital with my Switch and it's awesome - makes it even more convenient. I got a 128Gb card for under £40.

I'd still buy the cart so you can sell it if one of your questlines gets fucked in Riften and it makes you sad to play it anymore.

Questlines scmestlines. I’m just going to live as a hermit in the woods, and go for lovely long walks every day.

That doesn't make sense. You can't download anything onto a dedicated game cartridge.

Buying a second Switch power adapter so I can leave one plugged into the dock which is tricky to get at, and having one I can carry around with me / plug in upstairs for in bed gaming sessions.... A good idea or just lazy ?

I had an “early night” the other night and took my Switch up to bed, it turned into a Zelda marathon and for the first time playing portably I got the battery warning thing flash up, queue me running downstairs with my knob out desperately trying to unplug it from the dock behind the telly (the lead not my knob).

Would also be handy to have one at work in my bag, train journeys etc. And for the price what are they £20 ? It’s probably worth getting a second one.

No replies needed folks, I’ve already talked myself into it typing this out.

Why was your knob out?

I'm guessing it's a typo.  The URL says "fastest load times" and the blurb on Google said "download speeds".   Stop picking holes in my attempt to convince myself to buy my first digital game since Bloodborne.

I'll agree - as long as you then agree that there is absolutely no game on earth that will meet your criteria - you're basically saying every game ever will be unfair because some people will have played it more.

If only there were some handy numerical heuristic for the amount of playtime they’d put in, which could be used to match up players of similar equipment level and experience…

I see people have recommended a power pack, but if you do want a second charger, get these:

Plug the cable into the IQ high-speed port of the charger, and you have a much more flexible solution for less money.

USB C cable + iPad Charger has seemed fine for me.

There is, that's what the ranked mode is all about. You seem to be completely mixing up ranked play with just open turf war play. Turf war is just about getting a game quick - it takes whoever is online and throws them together (making some allowances for play style and weapon). It's quick, that's the point.

Au contraire, it was far too much detail.

Hey, just doing my bit to add a bit of humour to proceedings.

Back on topic, I’ve bought that combo that @Xevious posted and Immgoing to get the battery pack on payday, I think having that lot in my bag will come in massively handy at times.

Ive also decided to spend £75 on a 200gb SD in an attempt to go digital.

The extra slots in Splatoon only give a small marginal increase to abilities. It is 3/10 per slot if I remember correctly with any stacking of abilities giving further diminishing returns.

In any case, it’s really not worth worrying about. The nature of the game, that is covering the floor with ink and maintaining territory, means that the perks will never make the game imbalanced.

What have you gone for? I was going to get the usually recommended Toshiba 128gb, but I’d rather go larger now rather than possibly regret it later.
