Ok good to hear the issyes around scratching are lack of user care as opposed to a design fault. Though can't help but think a dock like the wii u one would've helped the cack handed scratchers out there.

A dock like the Wii U one would have had all the cack-handed users bending the USB-C connector...

Just stick a screen protector on and behave like a normal person (don't put the Switch in upside for example). It'll be fine.

Yeah, but the dock shouldn't scratch the screen. Mine doesn't.

I have been literally paranoid about the screen scratching and every time I have used the dock, I spend about 5 minutes carefully, neurotically, placing the Switch into the Dock - I don’t have a first batch Seitch either - and it still fucking scratched the screen.

Yep, I can put a screen thingy on, but actually Nintendo should be producing equipment that has 0% chance of damaging the hardware.

Me neither, unless you’re attempting to throw the Switch into the dock from across the room I’m not sure how it can.

See post above - but it’s because that rubber piece in the Dock, can - but not always - scratch the screen, however careful you have been.

I’ve had every available handheld device since the Game and Watch era, numerous heavily used mobile phones - not a scratch on any of the screens since 1982. Switch - I use it heavily, but the Dock scratched it. It’s not always user error.

I still can’t understand how ? If I’m placing the screen into the dock no part of the screen is touching the dock ?

I got a £6 tempered screen off Amazon anyway and you can’t honestly tell it’s on there

I thought it was due to some switch units being warped and the dock not having great QC

Okay, so this suggests that my Dock doesn’t have the same breadth as yours. The screen when placed in, is less the 3mms from the rubber, so the ‘give’ means when playing on the TV, the screen will rest on the rubber. I can’t check now. Out of interest - how many mms do you think it is?

i do have a suspicion that my Dock has warped through the heat from the Switch, but as I didn’t get it on launch - probs about a 6-8 weeks or so later - I assumed that I wouldn’t have this problem.

I feel this a lot too, but thought it was down to Mario being less controllable in Odyssey than the joycons.  I too should look out that USB GC converter and give it a shot I guess.  Either way, I still keep going back to Mario for more!

What? I can use my GC controller on Mario??

I am also genuinely baffled how you can scratch the screen with rubber especially if you spend five minutes docking it. I am not especially careful with mine, it's been in and out of the dock pretty much every day since April and remains scratch free..

Hmm, I am disappointed in Doom on handheld. It's technically sound and all and impressive that it's running but I feel that it's quite hard to control/aim with the sticks (and I've never moaned about that before) and the drabness of the game makes it all a blur on the smaller screen. I've never played more than five years minutes of the demo on PS4 previously so I don't have much to compare it with, I just feel I've wasted my money there, basically. This isn't actually a slur on the game, nor is it a review obviously, nor on the technical merit of it. I'm just saying that it confirms my suspicion that FPS aren't really suited to handheld.

Quick update: Much better visibility and control with motion blur off and sensitivity up. It's obviously a technical marvel and I support their, um, support. I'm happier with it now, but not totally convinced by 'good enough' for what I spent. Obviously, ymmv.

Arcade mode will probably be what I spend most of my time on with the Switch - that's perfect for train and plane time gaming.  90% of my gaming is portable now - I've got Doom on PS4 and have got right to the very last level, but never really get a chance to sit down with it on the couch.

It’s nowhere near either side and that’s with the screen protector on that adds a mm I should think

Sino Centre on Nathan Road, mostly. I find there a bit more interesting than Golden these days. More merch and retro stuff to look at along with the current gen releases.

Sweet thanks!!

True, but the screen has a Mohs hardness of around 3, and the sort of soft rubber used on the Switch is less than 1. By definition it cannot scratch the screen.

The rubber however could pick up dust etc and cause micro abrasions?

I just used a screen protector in end, just so I didn’t feel the need to be so gentle docking it.

You should do a collab with them for the sequel - Future Acorn Sticky Tactics

 I was just watching the trailer and for some reason I thought 'I would really like a new Team Buddies game on the Swith - hell even a Future Tactics sequel will do!' ;)
