Ooooh look - maybe Netflix et al aren't as far away as we think - the door just swung open...

I noticed the other day that the new firmware update adds a setting, something like don't fall asleep when in media mode. Media mode = can only assume netflix or hulu.

Okay, I'm being exceptionally dumb here but I need some clarification (I don't own a Switch yet btw).

If I create a UK account (buy some games, whatever) I can then switch the region to something like SA, buy some digital games, and then switch the region back to UK without any issues?

So if I delete the game I can just redownload it from the UK eShop at any point without having to Switch regions again?

Its worth noting that when you switch regions your lose any credit you had. I'd just make a new account...

Yeah that's right. Bought Odyssey and DOOM off the SA shop. Took all of about 20 seconds to change my Nintendo do account to Africa and hey presto, 40Euro games!

Changed straight back after the download and all grand.

Had a quick go of DOOM, I keep trying to use gyro for aiming. Been a while since dual analogue for me. Will have to unlearn what I have learned...

pro controller is probably the best controller ever but you cant say that out loud because Nintendo is supposed to be good at gimmicks and not at normal controllers.

It's not quite as good as the Xbox One controller, which is inferior to the Elite controller.

But it's pretty good by any other standards.

I was hoping the gyro aiming would be the halfway house between mousey keyboard/analogue stick that I've always dreamt of (trackball, anyone? Steam controller maybe?) but I didn't like it at all, really laggy, unusable, terrible input method, fake news.

Gyro aimng on Zelda is a bit laggy.  Gyro aiming on a Steam controller is fantastic along with using the right touch pas as track ball, revolutionary control when it comes to anything thing that requires aiming or even just camera control.

Hmm, I am disappointed in Doom on handheld. It's technically sound and all and impressive that it's running but I feel that it's quite hard to control/aim with the sticks (and I've never moaned about that before) and the drabness of the game makes it all a blur on the smaller screen. I've never played more than five years minutes of the demo on PS4 previously so I don't have much to compare it with, I just feel I've wasted my money there, basically. This isn't actually a slur on the game, nor is it a review obviously, nor on the technical merit of it. I'm just saying that it confirms my suspicion that FPS aren't really suited to handheld.

Have you tried playing around with the motion blur and aim sensitivity settings? I don't have the game myself but I saw these options during a video. I think the default setting for motion blur is 'high'.

On Mario Odyssey on some of those crazy platform courses, i am sure i never used to be that terrible at controlling mario. I do find the joycon sticks a bit hit and miss for accuracy. Really wish i had a pro pad to test my theory. Could try a gamecube pad i guess.

Hopefully you bought it on cart, that way, if you don't find a comprimise with the control / motion blur settings that you like, you'll be able to sell it back on and only take a minimal dent to your investment, pretty sure you'll have no troubles shifting it this close to release if that is the case :)

I feel this a lot too, but thought it was down to Mario being less controllable in Odyssey than the joycons.  I too should look out that USB GC converter and give it a shot I guess.  Either way, I still keep going back to Mario for more!

Had a quick go of Doon last night. Turned off motion blur (it’s blurry enough as it is ) and tweaked the controls a little, and it feels really good to play on the handheld. Do not buy this if you plan to play it on the TV - obviously go for the PS4 or Xbox version instead. But this really is a stunning achievement from all involved.

Yeah, I picked up my copy from Argos on my way into work. Only managed a 10 minute go this morning. It looks fantastic for what it is. Never played Doom before (even though I own the Bone version, I've never installed it due to the size putting me off).

How do people think Skyrim will Look / Play on the Switch ?

I’ve not played it since the 360 version so I’m assuming it will Atleast look and play aswell as that ? (Which is fine by me)

Edit - what are the chances of a huge update and me needing an SD Card ?

But if you're just buying things on your card without topping up that would not be an issue, right?

Yes, though I think some cards may not work in other regions?

I just like to keep things simple and separate, so main account for UK stuff, then another account for other regions.  I just use my normal Nintendo username and add 'US' or 'Jap' or whatever on the end.

You need a different email address for each, but if you use Gmail, you're sorted there too, as you can just stick a . in anywhere before the @ and you have a new email address.

So, if your email address is 'thisismyemail@gmail.com' you can also use t.hisismyemail, th.isismyemail, thi.sismyemail etc.  Probably worth unticking the email subscription though, or you'll get a barrage of email from Nintendo in 1 inbox!
