Thinking about getting the Super Mario Odyssey pack. Are the red joycons less likely to be faulty than the other colours?

Not in my direct experience. Although I bought them standalone from Japan.

That was my assumption until I received the dodgy reds.

Have you tried any others which work ok? I have 2 sets of joy con and two pro controllers and they all have patchy connectivity. I suspect some consoles are a bit dodgy, but have no way to test it other than buying another console to test.

Speaking of potentially dodgy joy-cons, is it normal for the motions controls on the right one to start drifting left relatively regularly? I thought it might just be a general gyro thing but mine's been doing it on Splatoon a little more often than I'd like. Laying it down for a few seconds seems to temporarily fix it. Also weird is that pressing the home button then going back to the game sets it off every time, though I suppose that could just as easily be a glitch with the OS or something.

I haven't found a huge amount of talk on it from Googling and comments have ranged from 'they're all like that' to 'definitely send it to Nintendo' so I'm not sure what to believe. I've only just bought the system so now's the best time to sort it if it needs sorting.

Woah there. What's this about faulty joycons. I came to use mine over the weekend and the right joycon wasn't working. Just assumed it hadn't charged or something?

I've been playing loads of Splatoon 2 again in recent days (what a game, by the way!) and certainly I'm having to recalibrate far more frequently than earlier in the year. Upon reflection, I don't think I actually needed to recalibrate the Joycons (specifically the right one) until a recent console OS update that also included a separate Joycon update, since which I've been laying it down for a few seconds between every Turf War.

Absolutely zero problems when attached to the console, by the way, this only happens in split Joycon mode.

Cheers, that's reassuring. With the home button thing it did seem like something that could be a firmware glitch but if that was the case I would've expected to find more comments about it online.

Edit: Ah, not just me then!

Glad to say that I quite like the split joy-cons for Mario and Splatoon (though an XL version with bigger analogue sticks would be perfect) so don't feel the need to shell out for a pro controller. If the d-pad doesn't stand up to Street Fighter when I get that I might go for a Brook adapter instead so I can use my arcade stick or a Dualshock 4 for anything the joy-cons don't feel right for.

Ittle Dew comes with a map and instruction manual inside the box, which is rather nice these days.

Nicalis seems to put bonus stuff in all their Switch releases. Cave Story+ had a CD and manual, and I think Tiny Barbarian DX has something included too.

...Zelda DLC 2 weeks after that...

Ohh, I forgot about that!

I'm hoping to rinse Mario prior to Xenoblade, and have Binding Of Isaac sitting waiting for when I do (and Forza 7 relatively unplayed...)

I still have recent-ish still sealed Bethesda games bundled with by Xbone pack.  I wonder if I'll ever get to them :S

With Skyrim coming to the Switch what do you think the chances are of Bethesda porting one of the Fallouts ?

The thought of a Fallout I could play on the bus makes me giddy

I would be amazed if they didn't have it on the bubble. Probably aiming at a release date around the same time as Pokemon Switch.

I fucking NEED to just sit on Doom for now and not crumble like a cheap Wensleydale this Friday.

I don't have have the time as it is and I only have Mario Kart, Zelda, and Odyssey.

Reckon I'll grab it on Christmas Eve in time for the annual visit to the parents' house as it'll be a perfect de stresser.
