That's not correct. You can do a quick rotation on the left stick. When you just begin to do a pirouette, tap X/Y and you'll do the cap spin. If you tap jump you'll do that slow spinning jump, like off a flower.

Aye, forgot about that, probably because I discounted it after trying various combinations early on: I think it's too slow compared to just flicking the pad (or using the motion control on the joycons), and too cumbersome when you're surrounded by enemies, which I guess you will be when you usually want to use it.

If I HAD to pick fault with something to do with the Switch, I’d say for me I find the thumb sticks on the Joycons are slightly too small for my thumbs, although I’ve got big hands so it’s probably me.... also when using the thumbs sticks for extended time it sort of feels like the rubber of the stick is wearing off on my thumb like a rubber would erasing pencil....

Minor though, I’m not THAT bothered atall

At the this point, literally fuck all unless you have a 3DS or Wii U. Here's hoping they sort out some Switch rewards pronto. I've bought about sixty digital games and I would consider these gold Nintendo points to be among my most valuable assets, if the inland revenue were to conduct an audit.

What are gold coins used for when registering a game? Anything useful?

You can buy games with them in your My Nintendo account.

It's rare there's anything on there though to actually buy, and so far they've all been 3DS and Wii U games.

100 of mine expire today because there's nothing to buy.

I don't get why they have to be 'level' though.  Why does it matter?

My right hand keeps going to the 'buttons' thinking there is a joystick there. It's just a 1 second pause 'oh yeah' thing which is fine with games play GolfStory but with Mario it can cause instant death.

You've only had it five minutes, haven't you? You'll get used to it.

By which I mean you'll develop an arthritic claw.

What controller does your right-hand think it's using - can't think of any current gen controllers that would have a stick there.....

Can you do the circular hat throw without waggling the pad?

Yep, but it still might be fairly hard work. You furiously rotate the analog stick 'til Mario starts pirouetting and then press (maybe hold) the cap button. It's not as immediate but I prefer it now.

A quick late-to-the-party question, if I may:

Is there any difference (apart from the purely cosmetic) between the various versions (grey, red, neon) of the console available just now? I've seen some comments up-thread about poor connectivity on older controllers and wondered if 'older' correlated to any particular console.

All the same as far as I’m aware, I’ve got the Neon one and have never had connectivity issues.

So.... What is your right hand doing when you're not pressing buttons? Shouldn't it be resting on the controller at all times anyway? You should never forget where things are.

Also - I keep saying this but increase the camera speed in the options for better SM64 c-button emulation.

Its more a question of how it represents your personality than anything technically different.

Basically you have Neon, red or..

Choose wisely.

If you get a neon switch, the implication is that you might just be a WKD drinking, spice smoking lout who hangs around the swings at the local park. Grey is the connoisseur’s choice, and purchased by gentleman who prefer sipping G&T on the French Riviera.
