I have PAL, NTSC and JP games :bye:

The only problem you'll face is if a physical version of a game isn't released in a region, you can't claim gold coins. Otherwise it's functionally the same. Even I Am Setsuna defaults to English on a Japanese cart if your system language is set to English.

If you're not arsed about gold coins, fill yer boots.

Having said that, ESRB ratings are fucking ugly.

Guess Odyssey won't be the only game I pick up then! And... I'm kind of tempted by some Amibos :)

Look, sorry that I'm about to say something negative about Switch but up until last night I had only played GolfStory/Stardew is handheld mode. Last night however I used handheld mode to play Mario for the first time (after finishing it with the Pro Controller) and it's really not comfortable. The sticks not lining up makes things really awkward for the right hand.

Anyway, something just dawned on me this morning that I can probably play with the pro controller in 'handheld mode right? Though that might be difficult in bed?

There's nothing wrong with preferring (even hugely) the pro controller. It's been manufactured by Nintendo and marketed by them as the 'pro' controller for a reason, and people pay £60 for it for a reason. The reason isn't 'bad hands', it's ergonomics. And, obviously, commerce. Nintendo sure do like those add-on costs.

I've been using it constantly.

EDIT: I usually "steer" my character in games like this with the right stick moving the camera, rather than using the left stick to move. If you see what I mean.

I assumed that was how everyone played 3rd person games! I use the base of my thumb to move the right stick while the top of my thumb is on the buttons, but I don't suppose everyone has the right size hands to do that.

It was Mario Sunshine that taught me to play that way, actually.

Mmm-maybe. I'm still voting for 'bad hands'.

Are you suggesting that Nintendo have deliberately made the Joycons uncomfortable to encourage people to buy a Pro Controller, though? That sounds quite funny. I like your style.

I think they're aware that joycons are far from ergonomically perfect, being a compromise necessitated by the relatively small dimensions of a handheld device. It is a laugh riot around here though, that much is true.

Small dimensions of a handheld device? There have been plenty of other handhelds previously that have managed two analogue sticks that are level? Is there something I'm missing here?

They've clearly compromised the position of the right stick so that you can slide off both joycons and play with both of them in horizontal mode. If the right stick was positioned like every other controller ever it would be weird using the right joycon in horizontal mode.

Also is it just me who constantly gets mixed up over select/deselect when switching from Switch to PS4 and PS4 to Switch? Even after months of having the Switch that still confuses me.

I was having this problem too - I found the best solution to it was never to turn on or use my PS4 or Xbox.

Problem solved.

Yes.  They have to function a separate controllers (for two people).

I don't get why they have to be 'level' though.  Why does it matter?

Ok the misaligned design makes much more sense now. I might be really naive here but I feel like the amount of times people separate the controllers for 2player is much much less then when playing handheld in 1player? and if that's the case why would you jeopardize 1player mode?

It's a massive USP of the console...

This, I like the joy con as a handheld but prefer the pro.

If you mean the Vita then that has the worst ‘sticks’ ever and a horrible set of ergonomics!?

My brand new Switch with Mario & Zelda is due to be delivered sometime in the next hour. In the last week I’ve quit my job, got a new girlfriend & a new Nintendo console. Life is pretty great right now. :hat:

I quit my girlfriend, got a new Nintendo console and a new job - playing the new Nintendo console. Life could be better though: I could have really tiny hands.

You have to flick the (pro) pad to the side. So no, there's no button equivalent.

That's not correct. You can do a quick rotation on the left stick. When you just begin to do a pirouette, tap X/Y and you'll do the cap spin. If you tap jump you'll do that slow spinning jump, like off a flower.
