You need to use waggle for two types of throws as far as I can tell, the homing throw and the vertical throw. Everything else, the spin, downwards throw etc, all map to the pad.

Seems you have to waggle a lot - to climb faster, stretch higher, etc. too.

It's OK, but not ideal with the Pro pad.

I don't think deKay's opinion is that controversial. The music is definitely a low point.

It's not bad music, it's just not Super Happy Mario Music. Last night's forest level music was nice, but can I remember any of it this morning? Nope.

Also, graphically, 3D World has been better looking so far.

I'm not liking the cap throwing. I'm finding the controls nowhere near as precise as I'd expect. The waggle - urgh - can that be turned off? I suppose with joycon it's fine, but with the Pro pad it's too heavy.

This is the first game I’ve played with split joycons and it’s been great so I’d really recommend you try it the way Nintendo intend the game to be played.

Previously, I’d never gotten on with them as the split felt like a literal disconnect from whatever I was controlling, and I’ve always hated any sort of waggle,  but here I’ve embraced it and the cons are now second nature, even the motion control. I actually don’t think I’d enjoy it quite so much with the Pro Controller.

I find the right analogue stick hard to operate when using split joycon, so don't usually try.

Do you need that much? I haven’t been using it except on those high up camera things where there is no rush. Give it a try!

I've been using it constantly.

EDIT: I usually "steer" my character in games like this with the right stick moving the camera, rather than using the left stick to move. If you see what I mean.

Has anyone faced issues with using US games on a PAL system? Still haven't bought Odyssey, but as I'm in the NYC this weekend, will be headed to the Nintendo store at some point, and buying Odyssey there will be significantly cheaper than here in the UAE.

You can just press x or y to do those things.

Ah ha!

Be nice if these on-screen instructions every five seconds actually told me what I need to know rather than what I already know then!

You do go faster pressing X or Y, but still don't go as fast as you do when waggling the controller. The one real criticism I have of this title is that some of the controls don't map to the pad all that well.

The Switch is region free.

Thats true I suppose. Though I guess there are only so many buttons on a controller to use without performing some serious finger gymnastics.

I know, but Nintendo's site has a disclaimer: ...we have not tested all overseas software with systems from all regions and cannot guarantee full service and support. Therefore, we recommend that players purchase software that is specifically made for their Nintendo Switch system's region.

Just wondered if people faced issues having done so or the above is just standard 'we know people import, we'd rather they didn't but we won't stand in the way.'

The only known issue so far is language support. Not every game has English as an option. Not going to be a problem for US games. If you have an HDTV then the PAL/NTSC stuff doesn't matter.

Ah, okay, makes sense. My overly cautious side kicked in.

Still haven't plugged my Switch into a TV...  Judging by what people have said about Odyssey though, that will likely change next week.

I have PAL, NTSC and JP games :bye:

The only problem you'll face is if a physical version of a game isn't released in a region, you can't claim gold coins. Otherwise it's functionally the same. Even I Am Setsuna defaults to English on a Japanese cart if your system language is set to English.

If you're not arsed about gold coins, fill yer boots.

Having said that, ESRB ratings are fucking ugly.
