I've the screen protector that came with the official Nintendo case on my Switch, whats the best way to remove this?  It has a few scratches on it so I'd like to replace it with a glass one.

Sellotape on one corner.

That is good news - it would be criminal if Switch and their games were not huge successes - we’ll never know how big the budgets are for their first party titles but hopefully the big sales are enough to ensure we keep seeing further Splatoon and ARMs support (Splatoon has sold 3.6m copies I think I read but ARMs is lower at 1.5m, but with Nintendo we know those aren’t bargain bin sales at a low price).

Whats the go to external battery pack for the Switch these days? I have a long flight coming up.

It's a teeny bit spendy but I have

A friend of mine managed to *just* play Zelda all the way to California using one of these but it wouldn't leave any spare for any other device.

I don’t think they allow bigger than 20000 on a plane. You should  check up before ordering.

My early impressions of the machine are a mixed bag. I'm loving Mario, and Zelda is slowly sinking its hooks in me. I also like the flexibility of the joycons when it comes to Mario.

Not keen on the screen. It's serviceable. I have to wonder how much cheaper the machine would be if it didn't have that screen and all the other gubbins to connect the joycons. For what it is, it's expensive.

But the screen is part of the point of the machine...

Nintendo have released their financials:

The Switch in it's first year is likely to sell more than the Wii U did across it's entire life.

That is a mental turnaround. Going to be a hell of thing to study in the years to come.

I'd prefer it if it was a simple home console to plug into the telly.

I can see the advantages of it, especially when travelling (kids in the car/long flights/away on business in a hotel), but I don't see why they couldn't do two SKUs, giving people the option. Not everyone needs that screen. I certainly don't.

Then plug it into your tele and use a pro controller!

It would have been DOA had they done that.

The simplicity of the concept is probably a big factor in its success. Adding extra SKUs would have diluted it. It does suck that someone who only uses one mode is paying for bits that they don't need though.

because then the developer base doesn't know what to code for.

It would make no difference the developer.

Nintendo needed 1 sku, 1 code base and one platform for developers to target - especially when dev support was at an all time low during the Wii U era. Its easy to get developers onboard when things are a massive success, but this was far from assured pre launch.

Eh? How do you work that out?

Why?  The Xbox 360 had two SKUs at launch, it sold fuckloads.

It may have sold lots to consumers, but not having a consistent install base (does it have a hard drive or not in the case of the 360) impacts what the developers can do.

If the Switch had been released as a console, it would be DOA. We wouldn't be getting stuff like skyrim, doom, rocket league, fifa etc on it. It's only because it has the portable aspect as well that developers are testing the waters with it.

This is also why i am sure most gameplay as shown in handheld mode, because on the big screen it would pale against the other consoles. It's a fantastic portable machine with the ability to play it on your TV too.

Yeah. Part of the reason the Switch is selling so well is due the simplicity of what it is. You want console games you can play anywhere, anytime? That's the Switch.

A different, console only version would have muddied that message considerably.

The combination of Mario, Mario Kart and Zelda seems to be pushing some folks I know into the 'I'm going to get a switch' territory... couple of guys in particular haven't bought a Nintendo system since the N64 days.  One of them works on the rigs and the portable nature of it with 'proper games' (as he'd describe them) is the main draw...

Best machine.

The portable 360 didn’t sell a single unit.

What a terrible argument tho, it had 2 SKUs and sold fuckloads - I mean technically the Switch had 2 SKUs and also sold fuckloads, prolly more than the 360...

It'll probably stay free at this rate. It's nowhere near good enough to be charging for it.

Funny that, because I played some rather splendid Splatoon 2 over the weekend - worked perfectly. No problems at all. And I gasped at the skip-rope score @Fallows had somehow manged in SMO as well.

It's perhaps not got enough extra features and whistles to be charging for it, but the base online play stuff is working perfectly and down hardly ever. I'd be perfectly happy for it to stay exactly as it is to be honest.
