Don't forget to manually update the joy-cons as well - we've got no idea what it does, but it must do *something* and it doesn't update them automatically with the main firmware.

While we're talking audio, can anyone demystify the Switch surround sound thing for me? Much like the Wii U, it seems to consistently output stereo to my (cheap) LG receiver -- but sometimes if I go onto something with Dolby (like the PS4) then abruptly flick the input back to the Switch, it successfully outputs 5.1 until the next time I turn it off.

 

Any ideas? I appreciate it's because Nintendo doesn't want to pay the Dolby license, but the fact I can 'cheat' it like that makes me think there must be a way to make it work...

Man that is really a shame. It's just terrific fun. It does make you want to throw your controller through the wall at times but it's just joyous.

Yeah it looks great, just with all the colours I can hardly make out the enemies on the brightly coloured backgrounds :(

Haha ! Yeah that’s not quite how it works, there’s different kinds of colourblindness but mines one of the worst, I can see colours but my brain can’t differentiate between them so where you see Pink, Purple and Blue for example they all look like very close shades of the same colour to me, same with Brown, Green, Orange, Yellow and Red. So having them bright colours moving so quickly my brain can’t work quick enough and split them all up, so it’s like a bit of a blur.

 

A lot of games have a colourblind mode, CoD for example, that’s an absolute godsend

Did mine 3 days ago and it literally took 2 minutes max. Can’t comment on MK8 I’m afraid but initial setup was really quick

Have you turned surround on in the Settings? If the Wii U is anything to go by, the Switch will output uncompressed 5.1.

Splatoon has some sort of colour blind mode, I think you can lock it to always be the same two colours, obviously it would have to have at least one colour combo that works for you though...I don't know how it works though, might be worth a google.
