One of the things that doesn't get highlighted enough is the cartridge format that they've used for the platform. Sure, there's drawbacks in terms of filesize and cost. But it does give the Switch library an immensly collectible appeal. Look for the 3DS and DS threads as an example how much fun that can be. It certainly makes me look forward to the physical versions of games like Axiom Verge, Stardew Valley, etc. There's also something immensely satisfying about *clicking* the cartridge containing BotW's open world into the device itself.

Better loading times for quite a few games such as MK8D and Pokkén DX are nice as well.

From a Switch is just my home console perspective, no disc whirring noises is nice, but they are not proper carts. I used to love ramming in and yanking out my SNES and N64 games back in the day, but flicking that plastic flap back and prising a tiny Switch game out is a bit too fiddly if anything.

I do like the little cases though.

Have you seen the special editions for Fire Emblem Warriors and Xenoblade Chronicles 2? Absolutely gorgeous. There's a SE for Axiom Verge too which I'll be picking up.

I didn't realise Stardew Valley was getting a physical release. I've gone digital on it but I do like building up a physical library whatever possible.

Switch is here, popped home at lunch to sign for it, had a fiddle but didn't even plug it in before I had to head back to work :( and I'm only home for an hour after work before I start a 6 hour bar shift :(:(

Good thing is, the Mrs who was massively pissed off that I bought it was peering over my shoulder asking questions like "So you can play it still while I'm watching telly" and "Can we both play Mario Kart on it" So I think I got off lightly in the end.

Just watched a tutorial vid on how to set it up (which looks pretty self explanatory) the two weeks until payday with nothing to play are going to be a killer !

Just be careful you don’t plug it into the dock upside down....

Every time my Switch acts a bit weird or glitches out I worry that my BOTW save is fucked :(

At least your progress isn't trapped on the WiiU.

I can see Link's face pressed against the WiiU pad's screen now, screaming as it spins off into space like Zod in Superman. :(

Better than what? DF bench-marked load times a while back and concluded that the carts were the slowest of the three Switch options. (cart/sd/nand).

If you mean better than a theoretical CD load time, or WiiU onboard,  then fair enough.

Oh yes, Xenoblade's SE in particular looks quite lush. Definately buying AV next month when it releases at retail.

The devs behind Stardew said they're looking into a physical release.

Speaking from my own experience with the Wii U loading times mainly. The amount of time it took to go from the Wii U UI to the start screen of MK8 iritated me to no end. I'm aware that for better loading times, you're better off going digital on Switch, but that just isn't the same for me.

I'm not 100% sure but I think their free 21 day trial now includes Switch games.

I highly recommend them and if you're gaming on a budget they can be very useful.

I pay for one of their more expensive subscriptions and would highly recommend them. If you can pick up Switch games with the trial it's worth a shot, the games generally turn up within a day or 2 :)

Picked up Zelda today I traded the Lego worlds game that came with my new switch and Horizon zero dawn which I think got spoiled somewhat as I'd been playing Zelda for weeks before I got it not touched in months so it only cost me £7

not sure how how far into Zelda I was I'd defeated the first boss probably adventured for 40+ hours got to start from begging get again

with this mario rabbits and mario odyssey I'm not sure my Xbox one x preorder is worth it :)

I sold my Switch a month or so after buying it for various reasons. Now however I find myself being more and more tempted to jump back in with Mario on the horizon. My only worry is that there isn't that many system selling games lined up after odyssey! Or am I just an idiot and there is tons of stuff to look forward too?

Exclusives would probably be the only games I would be playing on it to be honest, as I've got a PS4, Xbox One, and a gaming pc to take up the little gaming time I can afford each week.  Not interested in the portable aspect. My launch switch was never out of the dock and I used a pro controller.

My boy is only 2 at the minute so although Id love to introduce him to the many Nintendo characters/games, he is still a brave bit away from that yet.

I'm going to double dip on enter the gungeon, I bloody love that game, the thought of that on the move is too much to turn down, the fact my Switch will act as like a portable Steam with the likes of Gungeon, Stardew, Binding Of Isaac is really filling me full of confidence that buying a switch was a brilliant decision

I never get the Switch has no games thing.

I can’t thing of a single machine in history that’s had that a better first year than Switch.

Botw, MK8, Arms, Splatoon2, Mario Odyssey.

Some decent indie stuff (Fast RMX, Snipper Clips, Thumper).

It’s bonkers. The only thing that would make me sell mine would be an updated machine with some fancier features (maybe an OLED screen), or to finance a black market organ purchase if I were dying.

No CoD (every year) Fifa (every year) and GTA means no games.

Having a far more lively year than Wii U's first year certainly helps, though.

Switch'll be fine in the long run thanks to smaller model (to promote it as a proper handheld) and Pokemon.

It um has FIFA and given the way it's selling and the immediate reaction from some the third parties to this (Bethesda announcing and releasing a Doom and Wolfenstein 2 port in a matter on months par example), I'll eat my hat if we don't get a GTA5 port and CoD next year Switch bound.

The no games thing came ultimately from the very sparse looking launch lineup (which was pretty much just portable Zelda) that I will admit along with the high cost of entry initially put me off.

As it turns out we've been treated to a great first year of games with way more stuff than most will have had time to play, I already have 15 games bought since I got mine in June and will be adding at a minimum Mario, Rime and Doom before the end of the year...and yet I still spend at least 75% of my Switch time playing Splatoon!

I mean it from the casual consumer sense, not my own. The games that matter to them have to be on the Switch.

Nintendo proved with the Wii that they don't need that crowd however, and I'm sure they'd be happy enough to pull in the 3DS/Vita crowd in the long run.

Only way I can see things going haywire is down the road is it's going to get tempting to Nintendo to allow mobile ports onto the Switch, micro-transactions and all, if their own success with their mobile projects continue. And the only reason I'd think they'd be that stupid is because the Wii was stuffed with shovelware. It deteriorates the whole ecosystem if you'd like to imagine 500 match 3 clones suddenly popping up on an eShop near you. The trust from gamers would, much like in the Wii days, no matter how high quality their own titles are, plummet.

But I don't see that happening yet. Hopefully never. They're probably still just pondering how to cater to the long gone Wii crowd.

Well I previously posted in here after ordering a Switch and Splatoon 2. Absolute shit fest with the seller saying it was in stock but after waiting two weeks and still no dispatch notice I've cancelled the order. I expected to be playing with a Switch almost a fortnight ago and now I've had to cancel my order. I was gutted...for about two minutes and then went to good old Amazon and pre-ordered the Mario console pack. Roll on the 27th. The wait's been killing me.
