Yeah, I suppose, I get that. I don't use the switch as a portable device and it sits right next to my pc so my reasoning when deciding which platform to get a game on is different.

I totally get that. If we're trying to decide which platform is best based on performance alone, not to mention the wealth of software, then PC will always come top. But just like people will opt for mp3 over vinyl or cd in spite of quality, because of convenience, people are drawn to Switch.

It does indeed depend on your angle and I totally understand why a lot of you think it's the best thing ever. I drive to work and don't live with a family that hog the TV (used to so I know the pain of you TV starved people) so the tablet mode just isn't something I use much. I've had my switch 3 weeks and I think I've used it in tablet mode for about 2 hours. So for me it's probably not the more desirable option. I have no regrets about buying one as Zelda is fantastic and I'm really looking forward to Mario. But if I could have just one console it wouldn't be the switch. But then I tend to prefer multiplayer games as gaming is a social thing for me and the switch isn't great for that.

It's not just about hogging the TV, although that does happen. It's the immediacy of Switch and the fact I could play, say, Stardew Valley, and have Star Trek on at the same time. So just how we all interact with our phones when doing other stuff, we can do the same with Switch.

You should get rid of your mac and get into pc gaming, dekay. Judging by your blog and the lo-fi games you like, you'd have a field day!

I got out of PC gaming years ago. The Steam Link tempted me back a bit, but meh. I'll stick with consoles.

Actually, there is currently an additional reason for not playing PC games that need a mouse and keyboard - I've something wrong with my skin which amongst other things makes using a keyboard and mouse painful after a short time. And since I use a keyboard and mouse all day for work, the last thing I want is to do it more at home. Doesn't affect using a controller.

Well there are more reasons for me. When I buy a game on pc, I get to keep it forever and don't have to worry about nintendo making another console.

You can play stardew valley with a controller on pc. Plays better with m/kb though, unless they updated the gamepad controls when the console versions came out.

See my other post then.

Look, you enjoy PC games. I'd enjoy them too, but don't because of the reasons given.

You know what I mean though, you have to keep your old console and you inevitably just buy the new one and never plug it in again and move on.

I've a pile of old PC games that don't work on my PC, unless I find no-CD cracks for them, tinker around in DOSBox, buy a floppy drive, or rebuy them on Steam or something.

They really should patch in touch controls on the Switch. It feels like they should be there, and I've already found myself jabbing at the screen in inventory screens and the like.

It's almost like people lead different lives and therefore have different gaming preferences, so prefer different gaming platforms :sherlock:

And it feels like in the Switch thread you get a concentration of people who are into Nintendo games and portable console gaming :sherlock:

And for some reason most of these people seem to like Switch :sherlock:

Weird!

What I like most about Switch is that it's broken the hardware upgrade cycle. I don't feel the need to upgrade to 4K quite so much now.

You know, if I want the best console experience on TV I now need an expensive OLED panel and a new console thst costs  £450. Obviously I don't need all or any of that, but it does feel a bit like a race which no one is winning at the moment.

With Switch front and centre focus is on games. It's a console for purests.

Ugh, don't get me started on 4k. I'm already ruining the switch thread. You don't want pages of that.

It's true though isn't it? The other console manufacturers are putting a lot of emphasis on it, and it does kind of sour the experience if you've already spent a lot of money on a regular PS4 or Xbox.

Tell you what though, I’d never knock out a spreadsheet on my Switch. Mouse and keyboard all day long.

Mate, you can do it on the bog though with Switch, whack on sleep mode and continue on the bus!

 Yeah, but I never see people in the steam thread going PC

Nah, there's loads of people who go all gooey-eyed over the graphics that their high end  gaming PC rigs push out, and rightly so.

I've owned Stardew Valley on the PC for months. Years, maybe.

Never played it. Wanted to, but it's on the PC, so never did.

Pounced on the Switch version the second it hit the eShop and it's all I've played since.

I totally get the portability thing and being able to snatch 5 minutes of gaming time here and there with the suspend and resume feature.

Can you explain that?

Are you travelling a lot/don't have time to fart, like Nick?

Why did you buy it on pc and then never play it?

I bought it on Peecee as part of the Humble charity bundle so no regrets but after a couple of evenings I never played it again, it’s a handheld game for sure and even tho I was playing on a laptop it didn’t get played even tho it’s clearly very good.

@clippa, I’m as baffled as to why people want to play indie games sat at a monitor or even a tv with a k/b and mouse as you are seemingly that people play them on switch - horses for courses init!

I do enjoy playing them on TV aswell. Steamworld Dig 2 looks gorgeous on a big screen, and even something like Axiom Verge had a nice sense if scale, and then there's the pro controller.

Indeed, that’s why I love the Switch as both options are there and unlike say the Vita the handheld part isn’t horribly compromised by awful controls.

I just bought Golf Story, I’m excited!

Wulverblade Cuts Its Way To The Switch eShop Next Week

Quote

The promising-looking side-scrolling arcade brawler Wulverblade is headed to the Switch eShop next week, it has been revealed.

Originally confirmed as an early Xbox One indie release, Wulverblade - which is inspired by the likes of Golden Axe and Streets of Rage - is now making its debut on the Switch instead. You'll get to sink your teeth into it next Thursday.

Is it maybe time to have a separate Nintendo Switch software/eshop thread? Do we already have one?

I imagine that nintendo are going to keep rolling with this platform... they'll need cloud saves in place, but you can imagine them releasing upgraded 'tablet' sections for the switch on a semi-regular basis.  Eventually, like a phone or tablet, the games will fall out of compatibility - but I imagine the release of the switch hardware will be more like we're used to with phones than we are with consoles.

My switch is battered and scuffed all over. My 7 year old son is a bloody nightmare, I'm thankful I have a screen protector on it.

The joy con come off without pushing the buttons and I have a crack in the back, top right hand portion of the screen. Oh and a piece of the case missing too.

Nintendo need cloud saves or a way of transferring them or I'm destined to lose it all.

Cybergadget's Slim Switch Dock Offers LAN Play - Releases This December

Smaller docks are great if you want to intergrate into your AV unit. I have the small dock where you have to swap the internals over from the original. Think it was £18 from Amazon.

Doesn't have LAN, though does have USB.

My set up:

( Looking forward to the One X as the white One S doesn't match the rest of the gear.)

Digital Foundry theorised about them being able to upgrade the dock too to improve TV performance, so it'd offer 4K upscaling,  and the like.

Hey there Gungeoneers,

We are excited to announce our second major update: Advanced Gungeons & Draguns.

The focus of the update is on community requested changes, quality of life and convenience features, hundreds of new and substantially more powerful synergies, a bunch of new guns and items, and getting revenge on the Gungeon’s most hated resident, our new boss. Of course there will also be new rooms, npcs, secrets, and a new mini-boss. Our primary focus was to make the Gungeon a more generous place, while retaining options, for players who really engage with the difficulty of the game.

If you tried Gungeon in the past and found it too hard, too stingy, or too slow- this update will be the version for you. If you liked it just the way it was, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered as well.

a423ae28a2e184c9a054f6f15ee434c18e1dd1df

The aim is to release this update simultaneously, or semi-simultaneously on each platform, and yes that includes the Nintendo Switch, this fall. In the meantime, if you want to check out some of the new stuff- swing by the Devolver Booth at Pax West next week.

We see this update as the ‘complete’ version of the original release of Enter the Gungeon, hence the word advanced in the title. We’ve included nearly everything that we had in our original and insanely over-scoped plan for the game, as well as tried to incorporate as many pieces of thoughtful feedback from our lovely community. We read the comments, and we’ve stolen many of your ideas wholesale. As we get closer to the release of the update, we will have a detailed post about the changes included in the update. Thank you so much for your continued support of our silly game, Dodge Roll, and Devolver Digital. This update is not the end of Gungeon, we’ve got something small (but awesome) coming in September, and next year we’re breaking down walls. Until then, punch that Rat in the face for us.
