Nintendo Switch

I've realized that I've not said many nice things about the SWITCH so here goes, the screen is nice quality and much to my surprise I am finding myself wanting to take it to bed. Also my partner is playing SteamDig2 on the PS so if I fancy gaming I pick up a Switch and play GolfStory, quite neat. You know when I said I wanted SteamDig2 for the PS because of the trophies? I find myself regretting that now as it would be nice to have an option of 2 games for playing in bed.

I even started to actually notice the HD rumble with GolfStory and Octopath demo, I quite like it and can see potential for it. I'd love to see what Kojima could do with it.

That said, I do still hold some frustrations with it and most of them I get the suspicion that Nintendo are oblivious to them or just don't care. They have made some really strange decisions with this console.

Aiming in Zelda is great on gyro but on splatoon it’s reveloutionary - like text input on PS4 pad gyro, next gen stuff!

I was one of the gyro aiming sceptics on splatoon 2 - but after putting in some time with the game if became second nature, so much so that switching back to play everybody golf on ps4 I found myself instinctively trying to move the controller to control the camera.

Picross is my bitesize gaming go-to at present, I love the feeling when you peck in some squares then stare at it for a minute or two thinking its impossible to go any further, then you spot a single square you can put in and a load more just flow from it. So satisfying.

To continue the positivity I'd like to say that at the moment I'm constantly looking for reasons not to buy games unless they're on Switch. The only game I  definitely will buy not on Switch between now and Christmas is Star Wars BF II because, well, Star Wars. But on Switch I'm looking forward to buying games I already own, such as Axiom Verge, just because I love the system so much. I haven't felt so enthused and happy about a console in ages.

I'd also like to apologise for being so narky last week in here. In my defence I was on military grade pain killers which didn't bring out the best in me

Spoiler

Stardew Valley today :omg:

Anyone tried Butcher btw? That's looks alright, and very not Nintendo. Also that Pankopa or whatever it's called looks quite nice.

Not dihydrocodeine by any chance? I need to take a fuck load every day, I've just ordered a Switch. Hope they don't make me act like you the other week.....sorry I have no idea what you did the other week tbh, but if it was them I can see how they messed with your mojo.

Out of interest - if I've already downloaded stuff to inbuilt memory, can I then, easily, move it to SD card at a later date?

I don't think so? The SD card options are really terrible, if a card is in the slot you can't even decide whether the download goes to the built-in memory or the card, it just automatically downloads to the card.

Think I’ll give it a go. Going on a few flights the following week so should pass the time.

I'm struggling with just Sonic Mania, SteamWorld Dig 2, Golf Story and Picross S, and with Stardew Valley today and Mario just around the corner...

Just bought a switch from a colleague (just console and case, no games). Is there a notably superior screen protector, or should I just grab the cheapest tempered glass one from China on eBay?

I just use a plastic one which came with the official case and it's been fine, don't even notice it's there.

Can you store your library on multiple SD cards? I've got a few 16GB micros that I've collect over the years that I'm happy to use as if they were game cartridges.

Yes, but you have to power off the Switch each time you swap them.

Just plain codeine, but fairly high dosage  (well for me anyway) which I mixed with paracetamol when things were really uncomfortable. It's incredible how that shit affects you.

@amc

OT: Codeine is addictive af. I was taking the max dose every day for about 6 weeks. The withdrawal between doses was hellish. One day I just went cold turkey and the doctor had a fit.

I hear you. I only took it for a week but once or twice I've been tempted to take some, for no reason. I haven't luckily but can see how people get addicted. I mean once your body breaks it down it's basically morphine.

I think your body gets used to it after about 3 days and from that point it's not even doing a whole lot for you. I'm genuinely scared to take it now in case I end up craving it. At least it gets out of your system in a week and once you're 'clean' your resistance resets to zero again.

I think you're right. When I was taking it with paracetamol I'd get high from it for an hour or two and it was very, very tempting just to keep on doing that rather than face up to things. And of course if you're ill or recovering from an op as I was no one really challenges you about it.

Oh I'm hooked on Dihydrocodeine completely but then the injuries I'm taking them for mean without them I'm fucked. I go from not being able to get out and about to taking my massive prescribed dose and being able to go the gym and bench 120kg and ride my bike there and back. I'm physically fit but have chronic pain in several areas. I've seen specialists, had MRI scans, CT, X-rays and been hypnotised and acupunctured. All any doctors etc conclude is to keep taking the pain killers, I also get prescribed a massive dosage of Gabapentin which I very rarely take. Unfortunately the pills are the only thing that helps the pain. I've taken them daily for 3 years and dependency wise I'm basically a character out of Trainspotting. Could be worse though, I could have died from my fall. Anyway I'm hoping the Switch will be a healthy addiction.

Nah it's all good, they have their positives for me. I don't like to drink anywhere near as much or do certain other things anymore due to taking them and tbh the only real side effect that I seem to get is the aforementioned constipation which is helped with lactulose. Anyway sorry for the drug derail. Had a confirmation email and my Switch and Splatoon 2 will be with me by the weekend.

Excited for Mario more than anything out on all formats in the next few months.
