Ill jump in on Digital Foundry here too - I wish they just stuck to technical analysis and comparison. They do usually add their opinions on gameplay/direction and other areas which can reflect on how positive/negative the video is portrayed . I cannot think of any examples but sometimes throw in stuff like they prefer a different button layout, doesn't fit in with the rest of the series and just give random opinions that make their way in these 'technical evaluations'.

Still enjoy them a lot but these bits do annoy me.

Anyway hope deKay shop is right!

I've often been surprised at the negativity surrounding Digital Foundry, to be honest. Sure, they can get into some nitty gritty stuff about graphics and performance but that's kind of the point of the whole enterprise. They're always quick to balance things out by pointing out the positives that are on offer. A good example being their SNES Mini review where they go into how blurry the CRT filter can be and highlight the soundlag, but then come out saying that it is a great, cheap, alternative for people unwilling to go into the Raspberry Pi stuff and other things like it.

Plus they were the first to really get excited for the Switch concept back when they leaked it last August/September. Richard Leadbetter seemed pretty chuffed when he revealed a lot of the eventual concepts behind the Switch. The only thing that got him down were the eventual clocks and the Switch using the old Tegra X1 rather then the newer Pascal versions.

Come to think of it, them doubling down on it being a Tegra X1 is what made a few in here quite cross. Around that time I noticed people started to say they didn't like the channel. Whereas for me it's been an outright treasure trove of info. Loved their DOOM coverage on Switch.

Plus, they often er on the side of 60 fps over screenresolution. That alone makes them AOK in my book.

See for me, their DOOM coverage is exactly why I think they cause issues for some folks. They went early with a piece about framerates and resolution - but did so on the back of no actual Switch footage and using some totally odd 'we built a PC a bit like a Switch' performance analytics. They even tried pixel counting on some blurry images grabbed from the Nintendo Direct footage.

If they really want to be looking at the technical aspects of a title, and I'm all for that, they need to wait until they have the data required to do so, not bust a gut just to be first and make a load of really odd compromises as a result of doing so. They said they were told not to take any footage - hence the PC simulation stuff - but the web was awash with footage only a day or so later - footage that would have made their own attempts at analysis so much more useful. And made a mockery of their assertion that no footage was allowed.

Frankly put, if they want to be the authority on some of this stuff, then they need to understand they can't always win the race to be first with this stuff as well IMO. I like what they are trying to do, but they need to maintain that quality bar ahead of just being a fast news outlet.

Can I ask some more stupid questions, please?

How do you charge the little pads, does it come with a pad dock or something? Am I better off getting one of those controllers which doesn't split in half for certain titles? Are there ever any sales on titles? I quite often wait a bit after releases and pick things up on the cheap, but nearly every retail title I saw in the shop on the weekend was $59. Speaking of which, are any purchases digital, or are they all on a cartridge? My kids don't do well with cartridges (my youngest stuffs DS carts in upside down, ARGH), so some digital titles would be nice. Expanding on that, is it worth picking up a massive SD card in a sale, or is it best to just wait for the 32gig to fill up? And what type would it need, U3?

Every time I walk past a demo pod showing Zelda, I ask myself WTF I haven't bought this console yet. It makes all the fretting over the outlay needed for 4k a bit moot.

1) the pads (joycons) charge when attached to the Switch whilst it's docked. They hold a decent charge  (17 hours) so you never worry about charging them separately.  It comes with everything you need.

2) The pro controller is the best way of playing on the TV, but it's not essential, the Joycons, either separate or in the supplied grip do the job admirably.

3) Yes there are eshop sales, typically 25% off or there abouts, but not massive sales like you see on PSN or Xbox, mainly individual games.

4) All games are available digitally on release, but not all games come out on cartridge. Sometimes games release first digitally followed by physical later on (Minecraft or Axiom Verge for example).

5) If you're planning going all digital you'll need the biggest micro sd card you can afford. Some of the retail games are large. Not sure which is the best type or which ones to avoid. I buy all my retail games on cartridge and still have loads of the Switch internal storage left.

6) yeah, Zelda is amazing. Switch is amazing:)

Getting a bit worried about my switch. A number of times this last week it's refused to wake from sleep mode. Or, rather, it shows signs of life (holding the power button or home button brings up the power/sleep menu), but the screen is totally black. The only way to resolve it is a complete reboot by holding in the power button for 15 seconds and then turning it back on.

Yeah that's happened to me a few times this month. Gulp.

My right joy-con may need to be repaired. It’s working fine, but won’t charge properly. It’s staying a it’s fully charge when attached to the switch, but when unattached shows the battery isn’t full, attaching it again makes it charge for a little while and then stop again before it’s fully charged.

Anyone else had had this problem? Do they turn around repairs quickly these days? :(
