This console...

So I take the Switch to the bedroom for the first time. Playing a game and I keep hearing this weird noise outside, every time my switch tablet vibrates my pro controller in the other room was vibrating on a table. Why would a controller that isn’t be used also vibrate? Pressed a button on the controller near the orange light on the top, that stopped it. So next time I use that controller I will have to remember to turn it on, then also remember to turn it off if I take the tablet to bed....

Love the picross game, since originally getting into picross with the DS I’ve never bonded with any phone games as always missed the precise buttons I felt the game needed.

Wish I hadnt bothered with that old Mario game though, thats £6 down the pan.

He just seems determined to be surprised that his illogical pre-conceptions don't match up to reality.    Leave joyCons to discharge and be surprised they aren't charged.   Switch on Pro-Controller then be surprised it's still on when you leave the room.   These aren't problems anyone else is having.

'Switch on the pro controller'?  Is that what the button at the top is? A power button? (I thought it was a on/off for the rumble). Am I being daft or has there never been a console before where controllers have on/off buttons for the controller itself?

Also the joycon rotation issue, that really can't just be me can it? I've only really switched the Switch on about 3 times and each time I've had to tell the console that I want to play in vertical mode instead of horizontal, horizontal seems to be the new default ever since I switched to it on Snipperclips. Again, a problem I've never experienced anywhere else. Not even the Wii which had the same concept of rotating the controller for certain games.

Arcade Mario Bros was NEVER a good game, imo. Obviously it's important for introducing Luigi and POW blocks and stuff but it's no fun to play.

I'd pay £6 for online multiplayer Bubble Bobble though.

It's a significant game, just not a fun or interesting one.

There's no on/off button the one you are referring to is the home button which you hold down for a second or two to turn it and the console on. It's the same as the PS button and the Xbox button.

If you want to use the joycons then use the home button on the right joycon which has the same function as the home button on the pro controller.

The orientation of the joycons depends on the software you are using and it will usually ask you to press L/R to determine this. So if you press L/R on one joycon held sideways it will assume that's how you want to use it. If you want to use both joycons then press L/R on the top of each of them, etc.

Ok that sounds more promising. I swear though, when I turned it on EVEN controlling the HOME menu was the 'wrong' way around.

Eurogamer love to stick the boot in on Nintendo. I mean take this:

Quote

In FIFA 18 on Switch, you can't play online with friends, and I personally lay the blame at Nintendo's feet. The Switch just doesn't have the online infrastructure in place that should be the bare minimum for any contemporary console, and FIFA 18 exposes that once again.

So FIFA doesn't have playing with friends, but it's not EA oh no, It's Nintendo, That company that launched a perfectly fine MK8, and Splatoon, and ARMS, etc - all of which let you play online with friends in one way or another. As do many other titles already out on Switch. Konami have managed it, Shin'en managed it, even Capcom managed it.

Hit Nintendo for stuff they do wrong absolutely, but this is nuts - get mad at EA for not doing it, don't twist it to drum up clicks. Even the headline "Nintendo's half-arsed online cripples FIFA 18 on Switch" is way OTT. Cripples? The whole game is crippled? Come on....They could also use some of that energy to actually review the damn game....

I dunno. Trying to play with friends on Splatoon 2 or Mario Kart 8 is an absolute ball-ache compared to trying to do the same on PS4 or Xbone. I can't see any reason why they couldn't have perfected it on WiiU and brought it over to Switch, as they already share a lot of backbone. But, for whatever reason, they didn't. EA are no angels, but I'm not sure Nintendo would even have allowed them to create a bespoke solution for this.

EDIT : Agreed - "cripples whole game" is clickbaity hyperbole

So, not being able to play online with friends is a frankly ridiculous oversight, but I'm not sure this is on Nintendo at all. Why couldn't EA just have linked it to Origin accounts? Doesn't it require an Origin or at least some kind of EA account on other platforms anyway? Every other EA game I've played expects me to log in to something, I'm pretty sure.

That EG article is quite odd, too. I've no problems with opinion, but that's almost presented as news. And that would make a new visitor to the site think that EG is nothing but a bunch of rant-happy teenagers who throw things the second it doesn't go smoothly for them.

It’s primarily an EA issue but Nintendo’s friend code system is still awful.

It's totally an EA issue. You can play friends online in multiple other titles - both first and third party (christ, even the SFII port has it and I don't think Capcom put more than 3 work experience staff on that one). If it's not there, it's because EA decided not to get it added (in time for launch anyway, if they have any sense they'll get it patched in asap).

I was going to post about Eurogamer anti Nintendo bias but quickly gave up, didn't want to get bogged down in an argument about a game I have absolutely no interest in.

I've bought Golf Story recently. Anything glaring I've missed out on for digital only releases?
