Anyone play this on the other formats? Looks like it might be okay for multiplayer.

Anyway, I finished Steamworld Dig 2. Comparisons with Metroid are pretty superficial, I think. It feels more slight than that series and less challenging/rewarding overall, but I suppose it does Metroidy things like gating areas through upgrades, and it's possible to sequence break to some extent. I didn't got much of a similar vibe from it, though.

My favourite parts were the little challenge rooms, but I also found the main gameplay loop compelling enough that I wanted to seek them out. It ended up taking me nine hours with 76% of the secrets.

There's an extra level if you reach 100%! I'm up to 100% in every area but the Grotto, where I'm up to about 75%.

Some of the challenge rooms are pretty hard.

Wonder why Doom does not have gyro aim?  Wondered whether it was tested and not seen as accurate enough.

I wonder if it works better in a relatively slow combat game like Zelda and Skyrim, where gyros correct small aim increments, but less well in a fast paced twitch shooter like Doom, where you swing your vision quickly to see who is attacking you?

But as someone else said, more likely it's just time constraints.

Playing Doom on my PS4 was kind of stressful, in a good way, if I was moving to aim as well I might look like I was having some kind of seizure playing in public.

So Steamworld Dig 2.

I'm not very far. I've upgraded my gear a bit to improve my lamp and my inventory space, mined a little bit. It looks very nice with some lovely lighting, and smooth animation.

Gameplay wise so far I'm not really getting much from it. It's quite relaxing, but I've not really come across any real challenge yet. I'm early on so I think that will improve, I hope so anyway. The game play loop of mine, sell, upgrade isn't pulling me in though. Not yet.

Not sure what I expected really. Heard comparisons to Metroid, but it doesn't feel much like a Metroidvania due to the deformable terrain and just generally the gameplay is totally different.

I'll keep plugging away but after an hour or so it's quite average.

It's quite relaxing. That's why it's so good. If challenge is your thing then it's probably not for you.

The Switch has been an amazing console so far, right?  It's changed how a lot of people game, myself included.

We've had some cracking games to feast on. Some have been totally fresh experiences for everyone, others have been GOTY style games, and now we're getting ports of games that we never thought possible. It's exciting stuff and it's brought a lot of us gamers together. And the Switch's unexpected popularity has brought together a wide range of rllmuk posters who have not necessarily hung out together before .

And in the main this has been a cracking thread; full of enthusiasm, shared experiences, geeky musing on the latest Switch offerings, and of course discussing / consoling each other over some dissapointments along the way.

But the last 5 or so pages of this thread have been almost total dog shit. Some have trod in it, some have left a small deposit themselves, and others have picked it up and smeared it all over the walls.

It's not a good thread right now.  We're at the stage of people arguing over which posters are better or worse arguers regarding frame rates of a game that no one here has played yet. Hopefully this is just a blip in the wonderful Switch journey. In case not, I'm going to summarise a few blindingly obvious points on community-minded thread etiquette:

Everyone should be able to post whatever they want on the subject of Switch.  Nothing is off limits. But if you constantly post the same thing, it gets a bit boring, and people will probably ask you to move on if it dominates the thread. Don't get offended, it's a thread for everyone.

You may think you are right, a divine and single source of videogame truth, but others may not think so. It's fine to post your views, but try not to get too annoyed if others disagree.

Saying 'that's a fact' or telling others the best way to enjoy their games generally doesn't go down too well, most people don't like that. You don't like it either.

Posting about a 'them and us' environment, alluding to it and creating it is divisive and not cool. We're all gamers. We all like gaming. We don't come here to argue and read the same shit for pages on end, so let's not.

Thank you for reading this long and unbelievably patronising post.

Happy Switch gaming everyone!

The constant pointing out that the Switch can't match the performance of a gaming PC or a PS4 is as needless as pointing out that PCs are terrible as portable gaming devices.

No, I'm saying I cannot see why someone would buy the Doom on the Switch so they can have an inferior *portable Doom* if they have a console they can play it in its intended way.

You honestly can't see why somebody would buy a portable version of a title? Really?

Here's a clue: Because it's portable.

I'm not trying to make you buy it by the way, no idea where you got that from - just trying to make you see that there is a perfectly valid reason for others to buy it that doesn't immediately make them daft and foolish. Even if they own a PC/PS4/XBO

Anyway - Golf Story - YAY!

I'll play it some more today. I don't think it's bad in any way, just a little bland maybe. But I'm not, not enjoying it.

Mario Bros Vs is this week - Thursday for £6.29.

No NES game dates or prices (or even names!) yet.

Sorry I meant the arcade vs things or whatever they are. I think Balloon Fight is due soon, can't wait. Will be picking up Mario Bros too.

This has been talked about loads before but I ignored most of it because it wasn't relative to me at the time but what cable and plug can I use to charge the switch?  I'm going away for a few days and dont fancy going through spaghetti junction behind the TV.

Will an iPad charger do it?

The cable is USB-C so I wouldn't think an ipad charger will cut it (it won't go in the switch!)

I mean the iPad plug not lightening cable.  I think the iPad plug provides MOAR POWER that a normal iPhone one.

But I need a USB-C cable - is there various kinds?

I bought this one and use it to charge my switch beside my bed with an old 2 amp tablet charger.

If your iPad charger is a 2 amp one it will charge just fine when in sleep mode, but there won't be enough juice to charge and play.
