@clippa have you played Steamworld Dig 2 and if so, worth buying? I'm currently laid up in bed following an op and will be for a few days, so kind of bored and in need of a new Switch game that won't break the bank. Any other recommendations appreciated - was also considering Mr Shifty. I'd buy Isaac but it's too expensive.

I'm liking this new status. Are people assuming my opinion is worth more because I've slagged off a few things?

Yes, yeeeees, I could get used to this.

Well, for me anyway you speak your mind, which isn't always easy. Sounds daft but I've found myself guilty of agreeing with the hive mind just to steer clear of the ensuing arguments at times.

And you have good taste, generally:)

So myself and my 8yo are in love with Mario + Rabbids - so nice to see her having effectively an xcom game she can play.

But my 4yo is kinda left out of the Switch party. Any recommendations? We have MK8 and Zelda on the wii u so they’re off the table. Dare I say 1-2 Switch?

My 4yo likes The Cow Game 1-2 Switch. Any game that allows him to shake something around and think he's doing well because of it goes down well. He loved ARMS for this reason, but I wasn't comfortable letting him play a beat-em-up, just yet.

MK8 is great for kids. We have it on the Wii U, but I do not regret buying it a second time at all, because I've been able to play it with my son due to the auto-steer.

We both like Minecraft too. He doesn't understand most of what's going on in Survival mode, but he likes exploring and moving blocks around.

Why is MK8 off the table? The auto accelerate/steer would be perfect for your 4yo :)

It also has 1 more FPS than the Wii U version.

Oh no I thought the great FPS debate of 2017 had passed!

A friend has it and, you're right, the auto-stuff has made me very tempted to double dip. If we have to keep waiting endlessly for her to finish at the end of a race, one of us is likely to throw the Wii U at her still-developing infant head.

Equally, she's a bit Mario Kart'd out -- it's not that I don't want to get it, it's just that I think she'd be happier if we had something new she could play. Then we can grab MK8 later.

I didn't think about Minecraft, actually, both kids have messed around in it quite comfortably on other platforms. How about indie stuff, any gems in there that could be kid-friendly?

My youngest hobgoblin pulled the docked Switch over this morning. Bless. It only damaged the screen protector, so I suppose it's done its job.

Keep that photo. When it tracks you down in a couple of decades to ask why you gave him/her up for adoption, she'll understand.

This is why I can't understand why they didn't just make a Wii U style docking station.

Because of the type of connection needed - it's not just power (as it was on Wii U) - it's the full video/audio USB connection.

Imagine a dock like the Wii U one, and then that nipper knocking the Switch over - now you have a cracked screen AND most likely a snapped off connection joint.

For most people it would probably not cause any issues at all - but for Nintendo they have to consider the 'kid' end of the user spectrum, and an exposed joint/connection like that would just not be tough enough for purpose. The considerably more ugly 'big' dock we have basically shields the connection from bending/excessive force.

Which protector is this? I need one before I damage mine!

ORZLY

YARLY!

*Edit*

Just don't use the "Dust stickers". they will leave behind a residue that is hard to get off. I use them as hinges to seat the screen protector.

They intended it to be unplayable? Bizarre.

You see it's this kind of obfuscating bollocks that I find insufferable on rllmuk.

30fps is clearly fine for this game because it was designed around that. Obviously 60 would be smoother but it doesn't impact on the gameplay, it being a turn based fucking strategy title. Doom on the other hand was designed to run at 60fps, and that's from the developers themselves. It was a gameplay decision.

But no one's allowed to discuss it are they, lest they want to be mobhanded out of here.

It was a social experiment?

And does it affect the gameplay? Have any of us played it?
