But if the numbers make you happy, go right ahead. I enjoy the painting, not the brush strokes.

Why not both? Why is it either or? Gamers are strange, as soon as you mention these things you hear cries of 'you hate games' or 'graphics don't matter' but oh no I don't and yes they do.  Where possible I want to experience the best version of a game whether that be Doom running at 200fps on my pc or using joycons in portable mode.  Why the need to shut down these conversations, if you find it 'unfun' skip past the post or put posters on ignore. We are here on this forum because we are have passion for gaming from the minutiae of how games run or how many Korak seeds we have collected.

I'm in favour of limiting resolution to maximise framerates. My preferred target for the Pro and X is 1080/120, and I'd take 720/120 over 1080/60. 2160/30's for looking at things, not playing them.

It's not smoothness, it's reaction. My eyes can't tell the difference after a point, but my brain can still perceive the cumulative delays between batches of inputs and outputs. Input, processing and polling lag aside, the higher the Hz the more instantaneous the game's reaction to your inputs.

I usually compare it to correcting a loaded wheelbarrow down a bumpy hill, where each overcorrection has no great effect in isolation, but a series of minor overcorrections on top of one another causes a loss of control. Because you're reacting a teensy bit slowly each time and there's a net result. 120Hz would help WipEout Omega for this reason.

It's true people should feel free the minutiae of games. If we can't do it here, where can we? Don't mean to be patronising here - but it's very normal and human I think to be curious the details of things and the way they work, right? To want to think about and discuss the various aspects - including technical - that make up a game - or film, or music of music or whatever. Even stuff that hasn't come out yet. I love reading interviews with developers where I can find them, especially when they get technical (even without any knowledge of that kind of programing or development whatsoever.) It doesn't take away from being able to get lost in the experience - and of course, that's really interesting in itself; how technology can be so pushed (or technical limitations so creatively worked with) to enable that whole 'getting lost'-in-something-type immersion.

It's not like it stops the love-ins or anything - which are also great. They can run concurrently, no? Incidentally,  the difference between 30 and 60 fps is very noticeable to me. I can't help it, it just really is...I find it interesting that it seems to make such a difference; it doesn't quite make sense. I don't know why people get defensive about that, but maybe there's a background there in regards to how PC Gamers act or how they're perceived I'm not aware of (what with having an older PC, no current gen consoles, and the fact I read no other gaming forums apart from this fine place.) It does seem there's something a bit weird going on on this forum when it comes to Nintendo discussions. Maybe that (what seems like) slight tribal aggression / subtle shaming or shutting down of any less than positive perspectives goes on everywhere online. Maybe there's a history I'm not aware of.

good they got round to implementing 2FA for this, I was a bit nervous about using my Paypal account and storing card details without it after multiple Sony debacles.

before I set up the 2FA though I need to know if Google Authenticator runs at 30 or 60fps and is it 1080p as I find authenticators impossible to play at lower frame rates or resolutions, a hideous low framerate fuzzy code to input whilst it flickers totally ruins the moment for me and offends my eyes.

It's a lot better nowadays but rllmuk has always been aggressively anti-pc. The perception of pc gamers on here has always been this reductive, us and them, playground caricature of master race, elitist snobs.

It got so bad at one point that we started spoilering discussion of the pc version of a game in the games thread, as you can see, it made no difference.

This used to be the 360 forum, people would say "hey I'm playing X tonight, anyone fancy joining"

and if you asked "what platform, I'm on pc", the answer was always "Oh, sorry, I'm on 360". It went without saying that everyone was playing the 360 version rather than the ps3 or pc version.

Now it's the ps4 forum, but not to the same extent that it was the 360 forum.

I don't know what it is but you do tend to get this sour grapes attitude, which I can sort of understand, if everyone is playing a game locked at 30fps and some chump comes along saying "hey, turn off ambient occlusion, it's a massive performance killer in this game, I'm pushing over 100fps constantly now".

I've tried time and again to explain that playing with a mouse, a direct and instant input device, you need constant and consistent feedback, while 30fps is acceptable on console, it's not on pc, but again, it's just seen as elitist gloating.

Reddit are far more platform agnostic and don't have such weird hangups. I used to pop over there just to convince myself that I wasn't going mad when things got too much on here. They're very pc friendly. There is one guy on the shmups reddit who is constantly saying how all games should be on ps4 and that the pc is naff and he just gets downvoted constantly.

I'm predominantly a pc gamer, it's my favourite platform for a countless number of reasons, it being an open platform being one of the most important, but I've been playing on consoles all my life, I own all of the current consoles as well as a japanese 360 for shmups and I like the switch but there's just nothing on it for me to play at the minute so I'm looking forward to mario and hoping that changes everything.

Not to turn this into a mini support group for persecuted pc gamers but I sympathise with this lol.

not got any evidence other than anecdotal but the Switch seems to be the companion console of choice amongst pc gamers.  It maybe the importance Nintendo puts into framerate on its first party titles or Switch being the only place to play Nintendo finest right now*.

This is also something that's becoming annoying on Switch. Games 18 months old or more with no extras getting full price releases.

Agreed. Stuff like this can fuck of into the sea:

I mean, I can kind of understand Skyrim even though it is five years old. But pricing it at the top end of new game prices is not really on. And the idea that there is any public demand for Rockstar's least impressive game of the last decade on the Switch is laughable.

It’s does amaze me how rude people are to each other on here, if someone dares to have a different opinion they are spoken to in a way I very much doubt the person would use in real life.

There are a few regulars for it too. Anyway, back on topic, I like the Switch.

Not at all, I've played the pantomime villain in the past on here as that's what was expected of me.

Internet forums have a very arms-length approach to social interaction, people often prefer broad brushstrokes and crude caricatures rather than having to deal with subtle and nuanced personalities.

If someone starts having a joke with you on that level, you play up to it, joining in and fleshing out the joke until it becomes clear that you're not allowed to join in, you're there to be laughed AT.

i don't know what you're getting at. I haven't been upset by anything you've said. I totally agree with David Lynch, it wasn't banter. I don't want to play 60 quid for a game I've already played. I've no interest in using the switch as portable console. I do think people are blinkered and hostile to any sort of criticism in system threads on rllmuk.

I don't think I do, I just give my opinion. I might not sugar-coat it as much as I should when I can't be arsed, but I don't go out of my way to upset anyone either.

What a load of pretentious waffle.

It's not your opinions that are a problem, it's the boasty smug way you deliver them.

You are objectively wrong and so are the five moon-eyed piss chuggers that upvoted you.

Again, ask nintendo why most of their games run at 60fps on weak hardware.

Do you think they spend all that time and effort and money on optimisation just for a laugh?

Watchoo talkin' 'bout, Emma Willis? It's ludicrously well optimised on pc!

Having a low end system is no excuse

I tried all the different settings but it would still chug at a slow pace when things heated up. A shame because I was enjoying it more than expected, but it took the sheen off the experience.

I'd happily buy again on Switch, but like some others have said, I'll wait for the enevitable price drop. Excepting the very big titles (GTA, Zelda, Mario) I don't spend more than £20 on a game.

Now if theres one console that doesn't deserve a price drop its the Switch. I mean...sure its nice to have a price drop but its one machine i've happily bought and actually felt worth the cash when you consider the games coming, and, the fact people spend FAR FAR more on shite mobile technology. Mostly for 2D games or fact "the GUI is a bit faster".

The full game price on the other hand....does make me shudder. Esp. when they don't reduce the digital cost. In fact that REALLY annoys me.

But heyho. I guess it pays for another decent mobile console when the time comes...
