I'll be getting Doom. I've already got it on the Xbox but haven't even installed it (I can't be bothered with the huge install). I genuinely don't give a toss if it's 30FPS or 60. A chance to play portable Doom on the train to work without having the stupidly large install is too good a chance to miss.

Every single one of us needs to buy both DOOM and FIFA. Don't give me any excuses, none of them wash. "I'll never play it!" is utter bollocks, you definitely will, because the Switch forces you to play stuff on it. "I already have it on a superior platform!" similarly stinks, because you can't take that superior platform anywhere you like with you.

In particular, if you missed out on DOOM last year, you can now make up for that heinous oversight. JUST LOOK AT THOSE VIDEOS! Although, not the Digital Foundry one, because there's next to no talk about the game in there, just lots of yawnsome flipflops and gigashit. Post-pipeline processing? Fuck off, mate, all I want to know is how awesome chainsawing a Hell Razer is and if you're getting hard-ons over frame rates then you really are missing the point of games.

The Doom port coverage has got me thinking. With Microsoft and Sony seemingly focusing on 4k displays and scalability,  the next iteration of Switch could well offer game-play and frame-rate parity with its console rivals, with the only proper differential for multi-format releases being resolution.

I love my PS4, but I'm really not interested in forking out £2k on a TV just to  experience HDR 4k gaming, and I could see the Switch 2 being my only console.

Anybody picking up Pokken Tournament tomorrow?

I am! Never got to playing the original on the Wii U due to the weird way it did local multiplayer. The fact they've solved that plus added content, portability and balance updates makes it a day one for me.

This is a big promise. I soooo hope they manage to deliver:

This looks exactly the same as every one of the other one hundred odd games that have tried to lay claim to the Advance Wars crown and failed miserably. Same old generic shite.

My first reactions as well but I'll gladly be proven wrong. The only thing that's come close was Lost Frontier.

One thing to bear in mind is that Doom has very little replay value and probably won't last you very long. It's good for what it is but the lack of something like a new game plus with re-arranged enemies makes it a one and done deal.

There are doll collectibles and mini challenges but you do most of them on the way to story completion anyway (save for a handful of the stranger ones).

I'm not saying it's a bad game but you might want to go physical with this so you can flog it when you're done.

Wargroove looks like the game closest to scratching the Advance Wars itch:

Give me simple, bold sprites over complex, confusing 3D models anyday.

Only issue I'm having with Wargroove is that it has a terribly complex stone/paper/scissors "mesh" and waaaaaaay too many unit types.

Fuck me if the Steam world dig 2 music, isn't some of the best I've heard in years.

Really? It's been rather bland for me so far. At what point does the music get good? The art style is very generic too. I'm not liking the game much at all. I vaguely remember playing the first game and thinking it was all right, but barely remember anything else about it, and playing the sequel I now understand why that is - everything about it is dull and forgettable. There are so many fantastic indie games on or coming to the Switch that I'd urge anyone to consider spending that £15 on something else.

I'll wait for reviews from annual FIFA players first. The PS4 demo is a load of pap.

Too bad Pro Evo isn't coming.

Whereas I loved the first game and think that the sequel so far is just as good.

All the music has impressed me so far.

I was about to retort with "I can run doom on ultra at 60fps on my gaming laptop, and take that anywhere" and then remembered my gaming laptop has a 17" screen and weighs 6kg, so really pushes the boundaries of "portable"
