SteamWorld Dig 2 sounds more like a Metroidvania this time around so procedural generation doesn't tend to work that well for that.

Also heard the game could be about 15-20 hours from the developers. There is also suppose to be something unlocked once you complete the game but don't know what yet, may even extend the game.

Awaiting for comments for Hollow Knight and Mario Odyssey to be disappointments are disappointments due to not being rogue likes.

I'm not saying that it can be shat out and tacked on to any game, instantly raising it to it's true potential.

Creating decent procedural generation takes a lot of skill and is an art form in it's own right.

A decent procedural generation algorithm can impress me more than any number of handmade levels.

If it's done right, it can make a game world seem alive and infinite, you try telling that to the rllmuk grandads and they'll spit in your face!

You can bookmark this and if nintendo embrace the roguelite this gen or next and make a top down endless zelda or 2d platformer/mining game with loot and toady and it's fucking brilliant, you'll all hail it game of the year and me the king of the prophets, and I will, humbly, accept your apology.

If Nintendo make a roguelite/like that is awesome I'll love it, I never said or indicated I wouldnt.  Also I'm aware make a procedural algorithm is tough - that was kinda my point.

Its a bit much to be complaining about a game for not being something it wasnt meant to be.

The Steamworld Dig games are basically metroidvanias and I'm not sure they'd be well suited to procedural generation. The item gating would be a nightmare.

Perhaps an endless mode with pre-set items would work, though.

Can't believe we're getting a new Steamworld Dig today. I really like the first one!

I was quite interested in steam world dig as thought it was going to be a Dig Dug mining style thing, don't think a single word can turn me off a game quicker though than 'metroidvania' - I know people love em but all that backtracking and running around just isn't for me.

The 'backtracking' in SWD is kept to a minimum and even when it crops up it's all handled through teleporters. So if you need to get back to a certain area you can quickly teleport to it, jump in the hole you've dug, and within seconds you're at the part where you needed to be. Ez pz.

Yeah, I know, but you were being a sarcy cunt, you'll admit to that.

So you can just give me a cuddle and shut up about it.

Yeah, I suppose.

It's on the switch though. you can play it on the bus!

When you don't get to pick and choose so much, it makes a difference.

Of course I was being a sarcy cunt, you where being a stupid one making stupid points,  Same as the bit in bold above.

My goodness that looks amazing. Just took a peek at it at work (sound down as I'm not on my own today) and had to stop about a third of the way through it as I didn't want or need to see anymore. SOLD!!

Nice. Steamworld Dig 2 out just as I finished up with Mighty Gunvolt Burst (thanks to @deKay for recommending that one in this thread).

The first Dig was decent enough, but I thought Heist was a huge leap in quality for them. Hopefully this'll do the same.

Only played the opening on the commute into work but it already seems to be quite an improvement over SD1. :)

There's a digital foundry video up, 30 FPS,  only 4 strings on the guitars :(

Yeah I just saw. Their findings are from UNDOCKED mode. It would be great if docked was 60FPS.

Dunno if i'd bother at 30fps - i already have on my PC anyway so ill probably end up skipping it anyway.

While obviously I get that 60fps is better, I'm not going to say that 30fps kills it for me. It's still portable Doom. And they do say it plays really well and is a very impressive port overall.

I'm still in - I'm one of the useless tards that can't honestly tell the difference between a lot of this 60/30/1080/720/540 stuff anyway.
