Nintendo Switch

Another aspect beyond commuting is actually going on holiday with the Switch. Just got back from two weeks in France and it's genuinely wonderful to be able to take games you've really got into at home and just carry on with them seamlessly. And on top of that the bonus of a machine that has cooperative play built into its design... Playing Snipperclips or Overcooked in the evenings with my wife and kids was a lovely way to end the day. I've bought every Nintendo console at launch since the Snes but wasn't initially convinced by the Switch. It's rapidly turning into my favourite and the increasing signs of third party support are great to see.

There's a lot of stuff in your post, but I'm just going to pick out one thing as an example of your issue IMO:

I'm not desperately trying to find fault, I assure you.
The fact is, all those interesting indie games or old arcade game that are getting ported to the switch, I either already played them to death on pc/through emulation or I tried them and had no interest.

ALL. Really. Every single indie game so far you've either already played or have no interest in at all. All of them? Even the Switch exclusive stuff that's not out anywhere else yet?

I know I'm taking you perhaps too literally, but that's the way you come over - you're just totally dismissive with wide brush strokes on some stuff, and yet ready to pick the smallest details apart to find a negative on others.

If there's anything I say that you deem to be negative, maybe it's touching a nerve. Maybe it isn't all roses, maybe there are things about the switch or the way it's being treat by third party developers that is upsetting you, voice that.
We're all adults, we can be critical of the things we've bought and talk about their good and bad points.

It's not 'touching a nerve'. There is plenty that is far from perfect with the Switch. Nobody has ever tried to deny that, nobody has ever said it's 100% all roses. Just you, as you try to justify your odd negative stance all the time by making out you are some sort of 'voice of reason'.

Nintendo always push for 60, it's one of the reasons I put them at the top of the console pile. Nintendo knows how important 60fps on console is to gameplay. I'll let you argue with them instead of me. Email them, demand that they explain why most of their games are 60fps.

Have you deliberately missed the point here? You were criticizing I Am Setsuna for only being a capped 30fps. I simply asked since when has only being 30fps been a terrible thing? Not sure why you suddenly went off on a tangent talking about Nintendo. So we come back - why is I Am Setsuna such a bad title for being capped at 30fps?

Narrow it down for me. Name a few you rate.

Let's start with one recent showreel:

  • Mulaka
  • Next Up Hero
  • Tiny Metal
  • Nine Parchments
  • Battle Chef Brigade
  • Celeste
  • Super Meat Boy Forever
  • Hollow Knight
  • Wulver Blade
  • Shovel Knight
  • Blade Strangers
  • Dragon Marked for Death
  • Unbox
  • Golf Story
  • Inner Space
  • Earth Atlantis
  • Hunt Down
  • Morphies Law
  • Uurnog
  • Mom Hid My Game
  • Stardew Valley
  • Poly Bridge
  • Kentucky Route Zero
  • Oxenfree
  • Light FIngers
  • Wargroove
  • Steamworld Dig 2
  • Yono and the Celestial Elephants
  • Worms
  • Dandara
  • Dimension Drive
  • Travis Strikes Again

How can you look at even that limited one showreel list, and say there is nothing at all that is even slightly interesting coming to Switch?

:) Oh no that just nearly sold me a switch.... Holding out for Super Mario Odyssey though...

See framerates have invaded the switch thread now... :) The only thing putting me off switch a bit is Nintendos online store. Having just found out that I have lost a lot of Virtual Console titles in Nintendos archaic online system kind of reluctant to buy digital content again.... I believe at least now the content you buy is tied to the account and not the device itself? However do you still need to call Nintendo if your machine dies to get the licenses swapped over?

Yeah guys, stop rounding on clippa. He's made his position clear and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I love my Switch and would happily buy stuff I've played before just for the portability aspect, but its not for everyone and I respect that.

Did someone post a link a while back to a site that shows you the cheapest estore to get games from? Quite fancy getting Fast RMX today.

Even better is the fact that FAST just had a bunch of new tracks (well remixes) released and they patched the AI so it's not as rubberbanding as before.

I don't think we're 'rounding on him' at all - just pointing out some flaws in his arguments. He says there is 'nothing' of interest, but what he really means is 'there's a lot I like the look of, but I'm going to get it on Steam instead'. It's a totally different position.

Posted this deal in the bargains thread but figured with the deal ending on the 17th it might be an idea to stick it on here so people don't miss out. Mod's, apologies and naturally feel free to delete if I shouldn't have posted it.

Anyone who does like their Switch can grab Marion Odyssey for £37.00 from Tesco.

Code for £5 off: TDX-VPKP (might work with other games, didn't check it to be fair).

Cheers for the heads up. Anyone got any idea how reliable Tesco are with pre-orders? Any chance it might arrive a day early? :eyebrows:

Reckon I'll give Pan Pan a shot. It's made by one guy and it's cheap enough that I'm sure I'll get enough out if it. If nothing else it seems to look and sound lovely.

Speaking of music, if there's one thing we can all agree on about the Switch, it's that Nintendo's music folk are continuing to do some stellar work.

I mean, I basically just picked random stuff from their big games this year and it's all gold.

Any decent 2 player games for the Switch anyone can recommend.  Preferably downloadable and cheap? I already have Mario Kart.

Snipperclips? Overcooked? Death Squared? De Mambo?

Or quite a few of the Neo Geo fighters if they appeal?

Is Golf Story and/or Stardew Valley out yet or been given a release date? Mario will be here soon and I won't have time for them.

Both announced as being out this month (September) I believe - so they'll be here pretty shortly!

Im not trying to be all PC is da bestest but like clippa my main platform is the PC and indies are super cheap, perform better and the breadth of indies on that platform is unmatched.  I love that these games are trickling onto the Switch but when I looked at getting Binding of Issac on the Switch I just could not find the will to pull the trigger at the price it's at.
