With the dock?   I think it's docked mode that draws a lot of power hence lots of power supplies not working - even if they can power/charge the undocked Switch.

fucked if I can get it to work..

 

I have similar control config problems with Metal Slug 3 - trying to reliably get it to work with 2 controllers drives me nuts.

 

I can't seem to get Strikers 1945 to let me put it in horizontal mode and then use one controller, horizontally.  *rage*

You need to go to controller settings on the home menu and change grip order.

This got me at first too.

 

In Controller Settings there's an option for Normal or Rotate.  Have a play around with that and or the other should work for you.

 

Edit: In-game control settings, that is.

So to be clear what I did to play in TATE was:-

 

1. Change the grip order to a single Joycon in the switch system menu

AND

2. Set the in-game controller menu to Normal.
