Yeah it's the best pad, only let down by not having a headphone jack, which is pretty pad imo.

Oh that sucks, you'd think there would be one for the price you pay. You see, as of right now (never touched a Switch) the joycon things look way too small and uncomfortable. For playing single player games in general, I'm suspecting most people here would prefer the PRO controller (just for controlling) than the joycons?

I would have suggested you give the Joy Cons a crack if the whip, but looks like you got a pro straight off the bat!

I find them to be great, not too small at all, and playing split-style with the bumpers attached is probably the best way to play. I think Nintendo also think this way.

I haven't used the pro controller but by all accounts it's brilliant. I just think the Joy Cons are wonderful and deserve their time in the limelight.

Look at you with your long words ;)

I may have to explain my workings.

I never use the ninendo switch as a traditional handheld, by means of attaching the joycons to it,

i stand it on a table etc and use the Joycons separate from the thing.

Hence why the rip off charging grip is perfecto for me.

I would also be very happy if it wasnt even portable!!

Yeah, but you have to dock it to charge it somehow so I just don't see how £20 for a USB passthrough is really helping you out. Now you have another wire to worry about.

By that logic you'd be better of having spent £40 (effectively) on a pro pad instead.

But as long as you're happy.

I need to start taking my Switch wherever I go. Currently sat in the car whilst my youngest is asleep (unexpectedly). Perfect for playing some more Mario + Rabbids if only I'd been better prepared!

In relation to recent comments, this console has reignited my love of gaming after being pretty uninspired by the One and PS4. Spending so much more time playing games again - just need more hours in the day!

A single Splatoon 2 match only used 12MB of mobile data when tethered to my phone.

;-DD

(I didn't notice any massive amounts of lag on 4G either)

The joycons baffle me a bit. A big part of why they are so expensive is because of the HD rumble but no developers seem to be doing much with that? Even with the WiiU at least Nintendo were initially trying to find ways of integrating the tablet before giving up but here they seem to have just given up already. Not even Mario Odyssey has mentioned it?

The Wii U Pro Controller had an amazing battery life as well. Think it was quoted as being about 80 hours?

This is true. 100 hours on Zelda and after starting on a full charge I think I charged again only once and towards the end of that 100. Sounds like Switch Pro is almost as good.

Has anyone had issues with the dpad on the pro controller? There were reports that trying to issue down and up responses was difficult and the pad was inaccurately registering down/left down/right etc. Would seem impossible to play something like Street fighter or Tetris with that.

They retail for £70 and there's two of them. Admittedly there's less function per controller but I think it's reasonable agains a PS4 (£45) and XB (£50). The pro pad is £60 which is pretty hefty considering what it is (as lovely as it is).

I believe Nintendo don't make much profit currently on the machine (for a change) so the money has to come from somewhere. Suspect the smaller quantities of pro controller produced and sold (not sure what the attach rate is but it can't be huge) may help put the price up.

Every game uses 'HD rumble' to some degree, but it's largely marketing speak. I mean you can tell the difference, and it's pretty sweet, but it's not a game changer in the way the Wii U pad was intended to be.

You can kind of feel the wheels spinning in Mario Kart during boosts starts and things like that. There's a lot more variation than in a PS4 or Xbox pad, and of course it's in each Joycon.

It's cool :)

I notice the HD rumble when playing Mario+Rabbids. It's quite neat, but something I could easily live without. I do wonder how much it all costs.

SteamWorld Dig 2 out soon and that uses it.

No issues here. Played the whole of Sonic Mania and Mighty Gunvolt Burst with my Pro d-pad.

Do you not find that it's in the wrong place? Because of its position it was uncomfortable to use and I was hitting diagonals by mistake.

Using the joycons was much better for puyo puyo tetris.

Not at all. I've put a couple of hours into the Puyo Puyo Tetris demo with it too.

Never been a fan of using analogue input for a digital control, so wouldn't even consider the stick for it!

Re. HD rumble, Tumbleseed supposedly has the standout implementation of it, and I found it massively meh, just like any other rumble. It certainly added absolutely nothing to the game experience for me. And FWIW I haven't really noticed it in M+R:KB either.

If it's added significantly to the cost of the jcs it isn't worth it.

All of them, the whole system is fucked.

In other more positive news my eBay Mempoo dock (see above) does work, however only with the official psu/charger. It seems an iPad charger doesn't cut it (although does when playing handheld). @Jimmyzilla @rgraves

HOLD ON. So you hadn't plugged it in then? I was only joking, but I was right ;)

Yeah - it needs the official charger as very, very few others actually put out the required amount of power.

Bit more relaxed about mine now!
