The only problem with turf war as a low level casual is being on a team with loads of the same versus a few really high level skilled players. This seems to happen quite often and while it's still fun, you'll see one or two of your team with a zero score at the end.

Assuming they dropped out?

Splatoon has terrible issues with randomly disconnecting people at the start of a match for no reason.

Are they really that bad? I have hardly ever had a disconnect when in game, so I reckon it's just people quitting.  However, occasionally the lobby can take a while to fill up which can be frustrating.

They can be very bad. I've had periods where it's happened to me a lot and I have a rock solid net connection. I play splatoon wired as well.

Received today, doesn't work as it doesn't switch over to the tv output. I do have it going through an HDMI splitter, wonder if that is the issue. Is yours directly into the tv @Jimmyzilla?

Will try it on another set later.

Yeah mine was plugged straight into the tv. Did your switch go black as though it was docked or just as though it was plugged into a charger?

Didn't go black but did register it was being charged. The video stayed on the Switch itself.

I contacted the seller and he said:

"HI STEP ONE : PLEASE PLUG-IN AC ADAPTER AND HDMI CABLE INTO M001. STEP TWO : PLEASE PLUG -IN M001 INTO NINTENDO SWITCH (MUST SCREEN ON) THANKS"

Pretty sure that's what i did but will try again later (the boy is on Zelda again now!).

I played the first one for a bit.  It's not for me.  Didn't much like the single player either.   Not a comment on the quality of the game - it's clearly brilliant.  It's just not something I enjoy much.  I find the stress of multi-player competitive games unpleasant.   I'm loving Mario + Rabbids where I can take my time and not get flustered.

Couldn't agree more. I bought Splatoon 2 to take on holiday and played it for maybe an hour (single player only mind) and it was good, but not really my thing.

mario + rabbids turned up in Monday and I just have put 15 hours into it. Just an utterly sublime game

Yeah, that's my worry too as much as I'm hoping for a mythical special edition which will probably never exist.

So I've left it to fate, I've got £70 in Clubcard vouchers, I've set stock alerts up at Tesco direct for both the grey and neon consoles.  If they come through I'll buy one then.

Well that didn't take long.

Neon and Rabbids heading my way....

Quite nice to see all these third party games coming over. Granted a lot of them are remasters/ports but they're sensing they should have got in at the start and are now making up for lost time.

We'll see them start making brand new stuff soon, I hope.

Bit racist...

So I'm still debating if to get a Switch. Want to know something else that puts me off? Nintendo never put their games on sale. On PS4 you'll get sale events where you can get games that are several years old for half price/less. I'm guessing that still never happens with Nintendo does it?

Let us know when you've made up your mind.

Few things worse in videogaming forums when, during a thread that is a total love in with game or console or whatever and it is crystal clear that everyone, EVERYONE, thinks it's amazing, is someone wading in asking if they should get one or not.

Zzzzzzzz...

Dipping in, partly as I 'asked the forum' some insanely stupid questions just prior to plumping and buying one.... well. It's breathtakingly good. Like, I haven't owned a games console since errrr the 360. Prior to that was old Nintendos, N64, SNES etc.

I'm in absolute love. It's simply perfect for my gaming needs, took Mario Kart on holiday and loved it (Playing online via Bluetooth hotspot on my phones 4g) and since getting home been getting on with Zelda. First time into the Plateu genuinely took my breath away.

Its just..... so perfect. So Nintendo. And it makes me smile and feel like I'm in love with gaming again. Thanks Nintendo and the forumites who answered my insane questions.

It's weird that BOTW never managed to grab me on WiiU, but with the similar versatility of Switch I'm really feeling the hooks sink in. Might have something to do with being able to take it to work, I guess.

The 'anywhere, any time' aspect cannot be overstated. I've played Switch in the past 4 months at least ten times what I've played PS4 in the past 10 months.

And thats just Zelda.

Game. Changer.

I've heard people constantly moaning about the online stuff, the eshop, the downloading, the expensive games, awful chat features, dodgy controllers, lack of new AAA 1st party games, crappy subscription services etc. I really don't think it's too realistic to paint a picture where 'EVERYONE' thinks it's amazing, it clearly has a long way to go still.

But, the switch really isn't a console for the "modern gamer" for want of a better word. Oh no, there's no Facebook integration! Oh no I can't chat to my mates as we shoot each other! Oh no, online is rubbish!

Its just a console with some of the best games EVER made. But if that isn't what you want, if you need to chat online to your mates as you check out their status, then there are 2 other consoles that are perfect for you.

Strafe, he's right to be suspicious, these platform threads tend to be full of people ignoring all the cons.

I don't think it's that people are ignoring the cons. It's more that we're having an amazing time still despite the cons.
