Is now a good time to buy Switch?

I've been holding off but I just know I'll want Mario Odyssey. Apart from that there is no need for me to have one, I'll never play it disconnected from the TV. As for all these indie games, I can get them on my PS4. I just feel the smart time to get one would be next year when Nintendo inevitably release a Switch X or something.

What makes you think you'll never play disconnected from the TV, out of curiosity?

I at least thought I'd play it majority of the time docked but the opposite has been the case, by a wide, wide margin. And I don't even take it out the house.

Maybe wait for a Christmas bundle, if you really don't have the itch? I wouldn't hold off in anticipation of a hardware revision which may or may not come; you'd be as well as waiting for the Switch's successor. Christmas is not far away, Mario will have joined Zelda, Arms and Splatoon for a very strong first party lineup and Nintendo will be pushing the thing hard, so some kind of bundle will no doubt be available.

I still think the the price of the system, which comes with nothing, is bordering on the criminal. Nintendo should have packed in 1-2 Switch; a strategy that worked brilliantly with the Wii; and Wii Sports was a much better collection of mini games to boot

 Yeah sure, just get one now. Then you can bin it off (sell it) after you've finished Mario. Simple.

I've left my Switch in the dock 99% of the time and I'm fine with that. That's one of the best things about the system. You just use it however it suits you.

Yeah, whatever works for you.

For instance I'm not expecting to use it in the dock ever.

That's the great thing, it's up to individuals. Personally I use it handheld most of the time. I only use the dock for multiplayer.

A pleasant surprise is that it doesn't favour either mode.  It functions as a static console with no compromise and same as a handheld.  The seamless transition is a bonus too.

If there's no need for you to own one until Mario Odyssey then I'd suggest waiting for that, perhaps see what impressions and reviews are like first. It's a lot of money to spend now for a game that isn't out yet.

I think now would be an excellent time as Mario followed by Christmas will inevitably lead to shortages.

Yeah, that's my worry too as much as I'm hoping for a mythical special edition which will probably never exist.

So I've left it to fate, I've got £70 in Clubcard vouchers, I've set stock alerts up at Tesco direct for both the grey and neon consoles.  If they come through I'll buy one then.

How anyone can hold off playing Splatoon 2 is a total mystery to me. It's staggeringly brilliant/addictive/deep/fun/FRESH

I really wish I could enjoy it as everything about it is right up my alley but, like with Overcooked, it makes me feel this weird sense of anxiety when I play it. :(

Perhaps I'll just pick it up for the boxart some time though. :P

Not everyone likes multiplayer games.   Splatoon 2 and Arms represent a bit of gap in the release schedule for me.

Oh I know not everyone is going to love it. It's just that I do sooooo much. It's not like any other multiplayer game really, very unique. I've never got on with CoD etc, but Splatoon has me by the tentacles.

The single player is actually pretty good as well JP - just maybe a bit short (about 5-6 hours or so).

I totally see your point though - I'm exactly the same with ARMS. Doesn't ring my bells at all.
