Just ordered one from Amazon along with M+R and have a few questions.

1. How much room do I need in my cabinet for the docking the Switch?

2. Can saves be backed up to the console?

3. Can you buy from foreign eshops cheaper?

Thanks.

1. It's small, but tall.  It lifts out of the top too.  Mine sits on the fire place hearth next to the TV cabinet so I can lift it in and out (also, issues with joycon dropping connection if it's tucked away...).  The dock has a sort of handle on it, and I move it to behind the TV when I want it out of the way.

2. Saves are only on the console, not on the carts at all.

3. Yes.

..just don't try doing it without the Switch to hand.  The eShop website is quite possibly the worst online store I've ever found.  In fact, I'm not even sure it is a store, it took ages for me to find a page where they would actually take some money from me (and even then, it was a buy a game page, not a top up 20 quid page!)

Yeah, I wanted to add £20 credit online and was confronted with the worst shop website I've ever seen. It's not even clear that you can actually buy games on there at first.

Well I'm neither crazy nor stupid, and I can afford to buy one.

But I'm probably not going to, until they have fixed whatever it is that causes people to have to send the controllers away. Having to sort out the defect would be annoying for me, I don't care if the service surrounding the replacement/fixing is amazing. It should work out of the box.

The controller issue is probably not as wide spread as you think. The internet always makes it bigger than it actually is.  I wonder how many Xbox 360's red ringed on you and had to be replaced*.  If you can endure that this issue is nothing.

* I had three 360's

I only read this thread though, I don't go hunting the internet for tales. As I read about it a lot in here, I assumed it's pretty widespread.

I had thought it would have been fixed with later models, but it doesn't seem to have been. I'll get one eventually, but it has put me off, and as a consequence I'm in no real hurry. I can still get my MK8 fix on the Wii U at work.

They had a 10-12% failure rate at one point.

Has anyone put their dock on its side so the Switch front loads into it, a la VHS from days gone by?

You could do it, but it's slightly sloped so might get dislodged or slide out. Plus it's designed to just drop in, and so that air can flow around it.

I am getting a switch with Zelda next Weekend. I already got Joy con charger from Nintendo.

Is there anything else I need

Memory card - I got 32GB card already on my old phone. Can I use that ? - will it be big enough for Mario Kart ?

HDMI Cable ?

Do I need a USB cable to plug in power supply or I can use one from PS4 controller to USB ?

Will get controller but not at 59.99

USB C Dock ?

Where the best place to buy digital download games cheap.

System comes with an HDMI cable and a plug (with USB-C connector attached). There's enough storage on the system for Mario Kart. I wouldn't bother with a 32GB microSD card. That's barely any better than what's included.

Added another £20 to my existing £30 eShop credit thanks to that PayPal offer. Haven't bought a thing on the eShop since buying MK8 on the US eShop, though.

Got Mario + Rabbids for £34.99 and have Odyssey preordered for £32.99 so I can't see myself spending it on any retail releases any time soon. I'm still waiting on Hollow Knight, though and I'm sure there's lots more on the eShop for when I run out of things to play.

Bought Shovel Knight with that Paypal offer. Already have it on he WiiU, but it seems ideal for portable play.

I now have 7 physical games and 6 digital. Not bad for a console that's only been out 5 months or so.

I keep looking at my Switch home screen - Mario + Rabbids, Zelda, Arms, MK8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2 all in a row.

I think back to the PS4 and Xbox and this console has blown them out of the water in terms of their first year already.

And the weird thing is, back when they announced the console it looked like there were hardly any games coming this year.

The only console that was more reliable than my 360 elite was my launch day elite, neither went wrong!

Yeah, nothing much I want on the eShop at the moment so I bought £20 credit for £15 too. Will probably end up getting spent on Golf Story or Stardew Valley when they come out.
