People hesitant about buying the Switch; you're just grasping onto any available reason to avoid spending. The percentage of consoles with a fault is tiny, this isn't like the inevitability that was RROD. Also, it does depend on your environment. I had occasional sync problems in my old house, have had none in this one. Not being able to move game saves is a pain, one I'm sure they'll fix in future, but once upon a time there were no such things as game saves anyway.

It's a little box of joy. Dive in, and join in the happiest thread on RLLMUK!

I have to disagree with this and the way you frame the major issue I have with the Switch. I want one but I will not buy one until I know my game saves are safe. It's that simple. I do not have the time or the desire to repeat games such as Zelda and, without a cloud save game feature, that risk of loss is too significant for me. I don't think having to deal with having (and losing) saves on carts/consoles 20-30 years ago is something to aspire to, given the whole reason I demand more than that at this stage is because of the many problems I experienced with just that situation - I put up with it then because, firstly, I was a child and had the time to go back when shit went wrong (even though it really fucked me off back then) and, secondly, it was put up with it or have no games. Neither of those hold true anymore.

When Nintendo decide to let you have save options beyond saving direct to only one console, I'll be straight on board. Until then, I'm not just happy to wait, I insist on it. A shame, as for me it's the most exciting console out there by a mile right now.

I'm afraid i also have to piss in the chips of the Switch love of the last few pages. If you have a ten year old boy who has never played a Zelda game before definitely do not get one, it's the worst console possible in that situation.

(have actually forgotten what my one looks like!)

Spend some time with him, maybe a day out at a zoo or something?

My 8yr old son loved BoTW, I still got to play it for more than a 100 hours though. It was annoying having to help him out after he wasted most of the good arrows though.

He struggled with Mario+Rabbids (excellent, everyone but it) though and gave up quickly.

He's now really looking forward to SteamWorld Dig 2 (he replayed the first recently) and of course Mario Odyssey.

I know everyone has their own issues and concerns, but this just strikes me as being really odd. It's cutting off your own nose to spite your face thinking IMO. I mean the chances of losing your saves are pretty small - only a total hardware failure would lead to it. I can't fathom it. I suspect  the chances of losing saves on a Switch are probably lower than losing corrupted saves on a HD for example. And yet we all merrily played like that not too far back at all.

I get the concern, but I can't fathom people holding off on something they want because of the smallest chance they might, possibly, maybe encounter a rare set of circumstances that might, possibly, maybe lead to them losing some save data.

I'm not saying it's not a problem. I'm not saying I don't want to see cloud-save implementation. I AM saying, I personally think it's a fairly low-risk issue that is easily overcome by a lot of love that Switch brings to the party.

What a stupid fucking thing to say. We have just come back from a weeks holiday together if that confirms me as a good parent.

He is now chained to the radiator again until school tomorrow. In the cellar.

I see your joke at the end Paves, but the original message was just hilarious:  "(have actually forgotten what mine one looks like)" sounded like a description of your kid!

Hence Raoul's post!

The Tekken x Pokémon game is actually really good fun, and has what I assume to be quite a lot of depth to it.

My son is obsessed with Pokemon so has already decided he is buying it for me for my birthday, without any prompting from me.

It's not that the chances are small - it's that they exist at all in the way they currently do. It's not just a hardware malfunction I have to watch out for; any damage to the main console and that's it. Living with a clumsy partner and/or young children ups the potential for a handheld console death considerably, let alone anything else that might happen (like, I dunno - dropping it in the bath/forgetting it on an airplane). I'm not cutting off my nose to spite my face, I'm waiting on appropriate insurance given my lifestyle (time poor for such things but cash okay), which I'm sure will be here soon. Ish.

This is my red line - similar to a few others but not most, for sure, but it's a thing I care about enough that I would rather not play something than potentially be in a position where I've spent many months trying to complete a game (Zelda would probably take the best part of a year, for example) only for it to disappear and for me to have to start again. Which I would never do. You admit it's a problem and I agree. Of course it's low risk. But low risk is not no risk, when the reality is it should be.

Although, these days, saves are all floating on clouds so would be protected in the event of a hardware failure.

I think that is what folk are wanting, and it's not unreasonable, not at all, but it does indeed seem the least sensible reason for not enjoying the wonders of BOTW, or a new Mario in a couple of months..

Disgaea 5 complete is £31 at the game collection for the next 8 hours. Seems a decent price:

Tempted but it would just be added straight to the pile of shame!

Pile or no pile, that was too good a price to ignore. I had points there, too, so I got it for less than £30! Good call, man.

Bit the bullet when I saw them back in stock on Amazon. Went for their 'Zelda Starter Pack' with screen protectors, BOTW and a case. Picked up a power pack while I was there since I'll going to almost exclusively playing on the pad. Now to (fail to) resist the eshop...

Link your Paypal account to your Switch and get £5 off a £20 purchase

..just don't try doing it without the Switch to hand.  The eShop website is quite possibly the worst online store I've ever found.  In fact, I'm not even sure it is a store, it took ages for me to find a page where they would actually take some money from me (and even then, it was a buy a game page, not a top up 20 quid page!)
