Of course there are loads of positive comments about it - if there weren't, I wouldn't be interested at all.

Are you saying there aren't any issues? You've got two people on this page saying they need to send their controllers away. If you go back through the thread, it seems to crop up all the time, which suggests to me it's an ongoing problem.

Yeah there is a problem, I'm not denying that. I thought I'd covered that in my last post.

I've had an issue myself with the left Joy-con, maybe a couple of times. Perhaps I'll send it away for repair if it becomes more bothersome, but in the six months I've owned and played it regularly it's been fine 99.9% of the time. I should add that I regularly play in docked mode using the Pro Controller, unless I'm playing ARMS for which motion controls are superior, and pretty much rock solid.

And whilst it may not actually alter the course of your life, it will change how and when you play games.

In short, just fucking buy one, and a Pro Controller. You can afford it afterall, and life's too short.

I think in subsequent batches, most of the issues with the controllers have been fixed.

Totally understand wanting to wait, though. Losing tens of hours in Zelda would be soul destroying. Nintendo really need to sort the save issue out.

You could do what I do. Play undocked with the joycons (No disconnect issues since they're attached) and docked with the far, far superior Pro controller. It really is a lovely console despite some of the issues and Nintendo being Nintendo. I was playing Mario Kart 8 with a few chums in a public match last night and it was really great fun.

There's a surprising amount of decent indy stuff out for it too.

To be fair, my left joy con was playing up even while attached. It doesn't matter. There's a fault, the manufacturer has acknowledged it and is fixing it in good time under guarantee. It's fine. Happens.

it's not going to change my life.

No, but it'll change how you think about games forever.

The joycon issue is shite. If you've got the will power to resist buying a Switch until it's sorted I salute you, I was too weak!

When you think about it most things don't really change your life. A new job, a child, serious injury or illness, winning the lottery maybe.

It's the small things that count on a daily basis. We could all be living (dying) in a nuclear wasteland this time next week. Gotta enjoy it while you can :hmm:

Yeah, I must admit since I got the Switch I've completed far more games on it because it's so much easier to pick up and play than setting aside time for my PS4 and Xbox. I've completed Zelda, I Am Setsuna and Sonic Mania and put about 40 hours into Disgaea 5 and 10 into Mario and Rabbids. My PS4 hasn't been switched on in over a month and the Xbox is used solely for Rock Band and Netflix.

Right, my Vita has died (thanks, 2 year old and mummy's glass of water) so I'm going to order this tomorrow.

Going for the Switch, a battery pack, screen protector, a 128Gb memory card and Zelda. Going to grab Minecraft digital - anything else I NEED, game-wise. I'll be travelling at the end of the month so nice and chilled is the way for me, but anything amazing that isn't obvious (i.e. not Splatoon or MK8) is going on my list.

I didn't buy any of them. But that was because I had no interest in them, rather than a rllmuk thread full of people complaining about hardware issues.

You seem a little antagonistic about this, deKay. Why are you so defensive over a console?

deKay is a bit of a prick basically.

I've had a switch since launch as have a couple real people I know. I've never had any problems with the hardware, controllers or otherwise. Anecdotal but I've never heard of any problems apart from in this thread.

I totally recommend it, like others have said it's made feel able to play games a lot more. Basically putting something on the TV when I'm with my girlfriend seems pretty antisocial but sitting with my Switch with the TV on seems somehow more acceptable. Plus you can easily pause and resume any game instantly meaning you never have to worry about getting interrupted or whatever.

Mario + Rabbids is really good, best game since Zelda for me. Turn based strategy in the mould of X-Com with a Nintendo twist. Turn based nature means it's pretty chilled too.

If you're a fan of Sonic at all then Sonic Mania is essential. And pretty cheap.

Ooh of course. Been loving XCOM on Vita despite the myriad issues with the port (fps, which I'm normally totally relaxed about, is awful even by my standards, and general control clumsiness). Going to try and avoid digital for as much as possible (I'd rather switch carts than cards tbf). Haven't been this excited about a console in years. It's literally going to change my gaming life.

Have we had forum drama over then nba 2k18 game yet?

So the story goes that if you buy the cart you still need 28gb mem to install it, basically if you buy the cart you need a mem card also :o part of the issue allegedly is that it’s not on the biggest cart size and must be horribly optimised compared to most Switch games but ouch!

They said this about Lego City and it turned out to be bollocks. Is this bollocks too?

It isn't the optimisation it's the fact the game contains everything from the PS4etc versions. They are big games on that platform.

2k did an amazing job using the same engine as the console verisons. Pushes the switch very hard.

If you're avoiding digital then I don't think you need an extra memory card. Games are relatively small anyway, and you should be fine for a good while without one.

Use the money for Mario + Rabbids instead - it's awesome!

I've had my Switch just over a month and it's totally all about this. It's a small thing that completely changes how you play games.

As a sidenote, it's strange to read about how hard it is to get hold of one in the UK. I'm in NZ and got mine when a store was advertising them for $50 off RRP for the whole of August. So there's some machines out there.

In the interest of balance, I just want to say I haven't had issues with my Switch. I love it. I mostly play handheld and pro controller docked.

And it's brought far more genuine joy than my Xbox or PS4, but I do still love playing Multiplayer with Xbox buddies.

People hesitant about buying the Switch; you're just grasping onto any available reason to avoid spending. The percentage of consoles with a fault is tiny, this isn't like the inevitability that was RROD. Also, it does depend on your environment. I had occasional sync problems in my old house, have had none in this one. Not being able to move game saves is a pain, one I'm sure they'll fix in future, but once upon a time there were no such things as game saves anyway.

It's a little box of joy. Dive in, and join in the happiest thread on RLLMUK!

I think the Switch has recaptured some of that sense of childhood gaming more so than any other console in recent times.  A combination of the games themselves (usual Nintendo expectations of fun fun fun hold true, plus the unexpected wonder of BotW) and the form factor, with the latter giving us that "play anytime" freedom that we had as kids.

It's on the box art, so looks likely. nbabox.thumb.jpg.1ae0eeb2316f69c15d8b0d3c30d542d2.jpg

That's the box-art for the download card - so needing an internet connection and a card is pretty required yeah :)

Remember this is launching as a download only at first, with an actual cart coming later. That box does NOT contain the cartridge version - it contains a download code, hence the text at the top.
