This thread is doing a good job of stopping me buying a Switch. Every time I come in here it seems like the device still has a litany of unfixed hardware issues.

If you search any product name + ‘issues’ on Google, it’ll seem like every electronic device ever made has a litany of unfixed hardware issues. You only ever hear about the bad ones on the internet.

That's impression I get from reading this thread, yes. Joycons still disconnecting, and seemingly needing to be returned to Nintendo at the cost of saves.

You don't send your Switch back to get the joycon repaired, so don't lose saves.

Faults with the console itself might, but that's no different to the Wii, Wii U or 3DS. I assume you didn't buy those for that reason too?

I didn't buy any of them. But that was because I had no interest in them, rather than a rllmuk thread full of people complaining about hardware issues.

You seem a little antagonistic about this, deKay. Why are you so defensive over a console?

The saves thing is the reason I've not bought one yet.

I've not owned a Nintendo console since the Wii so aren't used to their system of tying everything to the console.

Is the account hardware specific. i.e. if I lost my console or sold it could I add my account and digital games to a new unit?

Yes. You can with the Wii U and 3DS too.

Could someone with Neo Geo knowledge tell me which is the best shoot em up available on the eshop? Either horizontal or vertical. Are they all much of a muchness, or are there any outstanding ones? Ta.

It's not Neo Geo but Psikyo's Strikers 1945 is an EXCELLENT shooter, and even more so in vertical orientation..

It may be a little casual for the hardcore shmup fan but, for me at least, it's perfect, nostalgic, pick up and play fun.

Well I'm neither crazy nor stupid, and I can afford to buy one.

But I'm probably not going to, until they have fixed whatever it is that causes people to have to send the controllers away. Having to sort out the defect would be annoying for me, I don't care if the service surrounding the replacement/fixing is amazing. It should work out of the box.

It's only a toy after all, it's not going to change my life. I can quite happily wait until it's a more reliable proposition, especially as I essentially only want it for Mario Kart 8.

I very much doubt that's true. If you were serious about buying one you wouldn't have to look too far to find loads of positive comments about it. That's not to downplay issues people have had, but a lot of them are often annoying rather than fatal. This is no RROD scandal. Generally I think people are pretty happy with it, as it's a great, innovative console with some outstanding software.

You could do what I do. Play undocked with the joycons (No disconnect issues since they're attached) and docked with the far, far superior Pro controller. It really is a lovely console despite some of the issues and Nintendo being Nintendo. I was playing Mario Kart 8 with a few chums in a public match last night and it was really great fun.

There's a surprising amount of decent indy stuff out for it too.

Of course there are loads of positive comments about it - if there weren't, I wouldn't be interested at all.

Are you saying there aren't any issues? You've got two people on this page saying they need to send their controllers away. If you go back through the thread, it seems to crop up all the time, which suggests to me it's an ongoing problem.

I had controller issues so I did the only sensible thing and bought another set for when I sent the first ones off....

A lot of the other ‘faults’ got blown out of proportion but the game save situation is properly poor much like the online app - overall I have had less issues than I did with the PS4 and at least Nintendo aren’t utter cunts to deal with...

I put up with the bollocks stuff from Nintendo and Sony as the games and all round experience makes up for it, I can see why you would want to hold off and it’s not like there isn’t more than enough to play on other p,at firms until Nintendo get their act together.
