Oh pish posh, this is obvious hyperbole.

*watches video*

......well then.

Yep - I mean, I've missed Advance Wars so much that I started tinkering around with my own entry-level turn-based-strategy game for my own amusement, but that's an impressive lifting of its style wholesale. And when I say impressive I mean it sincerely - a large part of my problem with a lot of the games that have borrowed the Wars template have fallen down by having utterly charisma-free presentation, and successfully aping its style is no mean feat. Here's hoping it plays well!

Edit: the bad thing about this is that it completely blows anything I could have made out of the water visually, and honestly I expect it'll play better than what I would have managed, so the work I'd done on my little game feels a little worthless now :(

The 8/16 bit aesthetic is getting a bit tired for me so I tend to struggle with games that have embraced it but, on the small screen, I think it'll make a bit more sense to me. That Hawaii game looks awesome though, regardless...

My bias aside it really is fantastic to see so many of these titles crossing onto the Switch.

Make no mistake. Nintendo had their backs against the wall before the Switch.

Circling the plughole? Well, that's what they said.

Found this gif of Woody embodying Nintendo while a fat zombie perfectly portrays percieved wisdom.

Is Ramone's new 'persona' Scottcr ver. 2.0?

Would make an excellent replacement for the 360/XB1 controller though. The only issue in games being that the abxy is all swapped around.  But if you're like me, you almost never look down at the controller anyway, you just recall where everything is positioned.  So it's a minor issue.

I'm in Northern California at the moment, and a couple of local stores have midnight openings and spare consoles for sale. I'm flying back to New Hampshire on Friday morning (around 6.30am) then moving back to Northern Ireland the following Monday.

So, that being said, I have a question: if I were to pick up a Switch here, will I need to get an entirely new power adaptor in the UK, or will I just be able to use a standard USB plug (like you'd use for an iPhone or similar)? Basically, has anyone seen the cable to power the machine?

Nintendo highlighting it in this doesn't bode well for a new AW getting made anytime soon.

It's basically a new AW though, it's certainly got the look down if AW was set in medievil times.

That Nindie 18min video basically cemented my faith in the entire platform.

Thats what fuckin' games are.

Love it.

Those 18 minutes have basically ruined a lifetime worth of "Nope, not buying digital only games, only cartridges / discs for me" So many fun looking games I want to play, but mostly the Advance Wars clone and the VBlank Hawaii game :)

Will these be impossible to get on launch? I've only just been hit by the hype of new Nintendo and a new Zelda so I'm currently trying to hunt a pre order down. My game store said they were on phase 3 so I wouldn't be able to get one in store on the day.

When I checked Amazon now the neon was in stock. Hurry!

You can charge it off any USB source with a USB-C cable, but reports suggest the Switch draws more voltage than most USB power adapters supply, meaning you won't be able to play and charge at the same time without the battery running out. If you've got a USB power adapter which can provide more than 5V then maybe it'll charge fast enough, maybe not. USB-C charging specs are a bit of a mess at the moment. You might be better off buying the official UK adapter (£25 from Nintendo), at least that way you'll know it'll work.

Perfect - what I have will do for now, I'll order up a UK one when we land next Monday. Thanks for the help!

What current does it need? 2.5a? If so this seems cheap enough and might fit the bill

Do we have the specs for the official charger in terms of amps at 5v?

EDIT - I read it might need 3 amps so this one a USB C charger

not enough reviews yet I dont think

Ars Technica were only able to get a very slow trickle charge with a 5V charger.

Aw yeah.

I know I'm an old fart, but those graphics are incredibly difficult to parse. I cannot even begin to distinguish between the explosions and the enemies. Pretty to look at, but no thanks.
