  • People who already have funds in their accounts on other Nintendo devices can access them using a shared wallet that works on Nintendo Switch as well. Once they link their Nintendo Network ID and Nintendo Account and then their Nintendo Account to their Nintendo Switch system, this functionality becomes possible.

Now then. I have a good question that I bet no one can answer...

I have a US NNID, it has around $20 left on there. I've already linked this NNID with my European Nintendo Account, in doing so I had to change it from a European Nintendo Account to a US one with a bullshit US address. It wouldn't allow me otherwise, it's either that or lose the NNID along with the money. In effect NNIDs are certainly not region-free!

Will I be able to then use those funds on the European Switch eShop, spend the $$, and then change my account back to Europe whilst keeping the games? Or, will it only allow me to access the US eShop, spend the funds, and then lock my games out once I switch back to the European Account (I'd need to change my US NNID name and then create a new EU NNID with my original name).

Fuck. That'll be roundly ignored.

Still smarting over the price - £280.

I originally had the same feeling but then though about it and now njust can't see the issue with the price. I'm not meaning to be dismissive but I have a hobby where I regularly shell out £50-70 for a single game.

Anyone got a link to a document or something that details the actual dimensions of the Switch and dock?

I need to know if there'll be enough clearance in my TV stand to allow me to take the Switch in and out of the dock with no issues.

Yes, I originally thought the  price was a big mistake.

But really, it's not so bad. You get a proper TV console and a powerful portable console in one. You can play 2 player Mario Kart without buying a new controller. The joy cons look like they have some really clever tech in them. All reports so far is that the screen and build quality is fantastic.

I paid more for my tablet, and I'll probably use this more.

£280 is fine.

Yes, and perhaps the portability is crucial for me due to convenience. Maybe I wouldn't have invested in another console to sit under the tv but I just know that I will use this son much more as a portable device be it on the sofa while the family watch tv, in bed or during the commute. I bet I will use it many, many more times than any other console I might buy.

Sorry to annoy people with NNID's but heres a question. I have a 2DS with £10 in the account but I can't link it to my NNID because I already had a Zelda 3DS that was linked but I have long sold it. What do I do?

Nothing by yourself using the Nintendo website self service options. You are both best calling/emailing Nintendo (now as less busy then next week) to help sort it.

They seem better than before with this sort of stuff-my friend recovered an account on an old ds and he had no idea what email/account etc was.

In an ideal world it's going to log me in to the US eShop, allow me to spend the $20, then when I drop the US NNID in favour of the EU one the games will still be functional (because they're region free).

It just means that I may have residual funds locked into the US eShop. Like if I have $22 and spend $20 there's not going to be a way to unlock that remaining $2. I'll just need to repeat this fiddle every time I use the eShop until I get it into the cents range.

Me too.

I'm so used to incredible Apple products how can anything that cost 280 actually be good?

The hardware will be shit compared to an iPad, get back to me when it costs £800

I don't think the price is unjustifiable - a rip off - but I do worry that it's too high for the market.

Yes, it might well be. And Nintendo are unlikely to reduce prices, unlike Sony and Microsoft.

I'm probably too hyped up to give unbiased opinion at this stage anyway.

I hope it sells well, as the concept is a good one, far from the gimmicks that the last 2 Nintendo consoles have been.

I really hope there aren't many on here who are missing out because of that price. That sucks if so.

I don't mind the price as I originally did. As well as a home console I know I will use it a lot as a handheld too. My son will also get to use it and my non-gaming wife really wants to play Snipperclips.

But I don't see it doing that well at the current price. I think it needs to be under £250 with a pack-in game to stand a chance of success. It also needs monster hunter, Pokémon and Minecraft.

I am concerned that this could be the Nintendo equivalent of the Dreamcast.

This is the problem really. If you're happy paying £280 then go ahead, I won't criticise you for it, everyone has their own idea of value. I just think that most peoples will not align with this pricing.

It's not even the £280 for the unit that's particularly off-putting, it's the £330+ that it really costs if you want to buy just one game for it. Then you might need a bigger SD card etc etc, small additions, but they mount up.

I was just looking in the Zelda thread and was tempted, had a look, I can afford one, but I just thought no, it's too much. If it was £250 with a game I might well have bought it. I don't know how feasible that is, but that's the price point I personally feel I might have been tempted at and suspect that might be the case for most people.

I'll be surprised if this isn't struggling by Xmas without price cuts. But then I've thought that before and been very wrong and it doesn't really matter anyway, I loved the Wii U.

You're not going to buy the a fantastic new videogame console - seriously, nobody has a bad word to say about it - which will launch with the best game ever because it's £80 too much?

Sounds reasonable.

The 3G Vita was £280 and that was in 2012. Nobody used the 3G except to buy a £5 Vodafone SIM card and get wipeout for free. (The pauper Vita was still £230).

Let's not forget that you had to buy proprietary memory cards, too.

Considering the Switch is a full console, I think it's a decent deal.

Also, if you voted leave and are also complaining about the price there is a special circle in hell for you.

I wish there was a pro version releasing on the exact same day for £500 with double the RAM, storage, and GPU bandwidth for 60fps Zelda. I'd be all over it.

Idiots blow much more than that on phones. My wife spent £600 on her Note3 and that only lasted three years. What a waste.
