Hold me macosx.

I'm currently watching that hype video NEG posted to regain my faith and strength. I will not budge on my pre-order. I must remain steadfast!

Look at it this way... There have always been consoles with their niggles and flaws but they make up some of the character of a console. I mean memories of blowing into a game cartridge to get it to work on the N64 or Mega drive (never proven to work) and something we would think absurd if we were doing it on a new console.

But whatever it's flaws, the games you buy are going to give you so many hours of enjoyment regardless. So as long as you spend plenty of hours playing Zelda / Mario Kart / I am Setsuna then it will still be worth it :D I have an Xbox One at home that I very rarely play. Yet I still consider it a good purchase (and all it is is a big paper weight at the moment!)

If the pro controller is ok then I'll be ok till they get to the bottom of the Joycon problem. Hopefully its just a setting they can use that will eat into the battery life of the Joycon, even halving it would be ok for me, 10 hours is still plenty.

Bit of a bloody shambles sending out something so flawed. The internet age should have warned companies off being so stupid a long time ago.

Can't use Bluetooth headphones :(

The public demanded it was more like the PS4...

I just watched the gamexplain video on the joycon range issue and it does effect both pads but the right less so - most odd.

While I doubt it will effect me as not sitting that far away there is no free pass, it needs to be resolved and hopefully Nintendo will say something about it soon.

Here's a video which demonstrates the joycon issue quite clearly:

Essentially, the signal is weak enough that covering the entire joycon with your hand(?!) or hiding it behind your body(?!?!) presents enough of a barrier to cause interference, when sat far enough away (in the video above he reckons he's about 10 feet away). No one is going to hold their joycons like that, but it does demonstrate that the signal is quite prone to being blocked by solid objects in the surrounding environment.

I don't know anything about bluetooth hardware, and even less about the specific hardware within the Switch and the joycons, so have no idea whether the strength of the signal is something you can easily adjust via a software update. I've seen a lot of folks say they'd be happy to live with half the battery life in the joycons if it meant greater reliability though.

My preorder is still confirmed.

I'm never gonna be more than 10ft from my Switch so this is fine.

Yeah. I'm quite lucky. My gaming setup has me sitting quite close to my Monitor and consoles so I doubt this will effect me. I've also got a pro controller coming.

ONE WEEK GUYS. I've booked the day off and my body is ready for sweet sweet Zelda goodness. Shame Binding of Isaac has been delayed. I've probably have triple dipped on that.

My GC controller leads were definitely less than 10 ft. I reckon about 6 ft. It was a Japanese one though so maybe they were different. Ended up buying the wavebird anyway.

This controller issue likely will not affect me as I'll be using the pro, but it does seem to be an odd oversight on Nintendo's part.

They should do an announcement this weekend if they have a fix to assuage the fears of people.

Battery doesn't last that long as it is.. let alone having bluetooth introduced.

It already has Bluetooth.

The Headphones thing is fucking shit but that is surely firmware-able (I know that's not a word.) I mean, if you can connect FOUR joy cons locally then you can stick in a bluetooth headset and still use two (this may not be an exact science).

Anyway.

1 WEEK LADS! 1 WEEK! Almost tempted to can my amazon orders and do a midnight opening.

I know people are going on about the de-synch issue. But I personally won't be covering my joycons with my hands while playing and I won't be playing Zelda with them behind my back...

The range is not such an issue I don't think -

Video

These guys get around 15 steps which is a bit more than 10 feet (there is nothing between them and the console however and they are not playing a game). So that may change the results a touch depending on what parts of the joycon you are using i.e. Would games with movement drain some of the power away from the range? Idk

Fortunately for me I'll be playing my switch pretty close to the screen or with the switch in my hand so I won't have issues :D

Has anyone seen a report of people testing the pro controller for the signal issue?

I hear gamexplain are lining up people to wrap their hands around a pro controller then lay on top of it to see if that breaks the signal.
