And the battery does last three hours for Zelda and the grey controllers do look best!

But yeah, imma play it with a Joycons in each hand. Freestyle.

One guy report 2 1/2 hours on standard settings but that means he had auto brightness on which really helps kill batteries. 3 hours seesm to be what others are reporting though so seems nintendo were right.

Also, and this makes me laugh, people complained that the machine got hot in the dock when playing Zelda. I mean have they used any other tablet ever when it plays a game? Or a laptop when playing a game. Mobile chips get hot, as do console chips etc.

So they shouldn't tell people about this? You think it's a feature?

Blu rays actually cost a couple of dollars for volume print. The carts are rumoured to cost 10 dollars (That's with all the packaging etc, it was the amount quoted by The binding of issac devs).

You can get recordable Blu-rays printed in relatively small print runs for that sort of price now, actual pressed discs in the sorts of volumes done by a major publisher will cost less than that, and we are only talking about the cost of manufacturing the physical media, not the licensing costs charged by the platform holder.

This is how much they cost back in 2009 for BD25s, and the price had already halved in less than 2 years at that time so I'd be fairly confident in my assessment on how much it costs to print a BD these days, it was the same for CD and DVD before it.

As is always the case in replication, the per-disc cost varies depending on order size. A larger order of 10,000 units would cost $16,600 ($1.66 per disc), whereas a small order of 1,000 units would run a bill of $3,580 ($3.58 per disc), again including mastering, AACS and replication.

These prices are noticeably better than those that were applied in the recent past. For example, the pricing for replicating 5,000 bulk BD25s (not counting AACS and mastering) has decreased from $3.15 per disc in August 2007 to $1.47 per disc now, or a drop of over 50 percent.

It wouldn't be too difficult for them to release a dedicated handheld based on Switch technology. I thought that was the idea with Switch anyway - one eco system feeding multiple devices.

Where is the tangible evidence from anything anybody at Nintendo has ever said to justify this? I've seen this particular virulent idea repeated enough times. This isn't aimed at you personally, but you just happen to be the latest person repeating the mantra.

There is a long reply from Iwata a few years ago which gives a much more practical reason for moving to a unified hardware and software development scenario.

Taken from the outside of the box:

Where does

By re-linking your Nintendo Account after initializing the console, it will be possible to redownload any software or DLC purchased using that account. (Software that has been discontinued may not be available to redownload in some cases.)"

say you can transfer from one machine to another?

It says re-linking after initialising, not re-linking on a different machine.

Well, yeah, the long reply from Iwata is where it came from. So you do know somebody from Nintendo said it.

am not sure if the form factor (the size and configuration of the hardware) will be integrated. In contrast, the number of form factors might increase. Currently, we can only provide two form factors because if we had three or four different architectures, we would face serious shortages of software on every platform. To cite a specific case, Apple is able to release smart devices with various form factors one after another because there is one way of programming adopted by all platforms. Apple has a common platform called iOS. Another example is Android. Though there are various models, Android does not face software shortages because there is one common way of programming on the Android platform that works with various models.

The point is, Nintendo platforms should be like those two examples. Whether we will ultimately need just one device will be determined by what consumers demand in the future, and that is not something we know at the moment. However, we are hoping to change and correct the situation in which we develop games for different platforms individually and sometimes disappoint consumers with game shortages as we attempt to move from one platform to another, and we believe that we will be able to deliver tangible results in the future.

Who is that Jason fella - undercooked because it has no VC? Lol, has any console ever launched with VC on day 1?

He's looking for something to stir up some clicks. No activity log, well how are the parental controls going to work if the system has no idea of how long you've already played? It has to be keeping track for that - though I suppose it might not be user-facing outside of the app maybe?

The joy-con sync issue is more of a worry - but nobody has reported that from any of the shows, and surely it would have been obvious way before now if there was a real issue - it's not like Nintendo and other devs won't have been playing the thing!

Maybe they were all so busy using the pro controller they forgot to test the joycons properly ;)

We will see if Nintendo releases a statement later. I am concerned though.

Gameseek have changed their plans for the neon preorders. They will be emailing customers at random with the invitation to preorder once the stock has arrived from Nintendo on Monday or Tuesday next week.

So basically it's a lottery, if you've signed up to the stock alert you're in with a chance. They'll probably only have 5 to offer.

I'll worry when I get one myself, other peoples opinions like that jason fella and Emily Rogers are just that, opinions, let them have their clickbait and meaningless tweets, all I know is I have not had those problems yet ( because I don't have a Switch obviously ) and there is a day 1 patch coming, it's not like anyone mentioned the sync issue whilst at the events that have been held, more than likely the machines have been being manufactured for some time and the OS WAS undercooked, but the day 1 patch will sort it.

The Wii had the VC on day one with these games:

Quote
  • Altered Beast
  • Bonk's Adventure
  • Bomberman '93
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • Donkey Kong
  • Dungeon Explorer
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • F-Zero
  • Golden Axe
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Super Mario 64
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Super Star Soldier
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Wario's Woods
  • Victory Run

I'm not surprised that it's launching later, but it's still disappointing.

the wii and the 3ds did, I'm fairly sure.  It's definitely bare bones. The big N has the best back catalogue of any company in history and this thing is launching with 1 game and nothing else of value to actually do with the console (other than signing up for lots of different logins). They are lucky it's bonus season.
