Nintendo Switch

So I've been planning on cancelling my pre-order. I'm finding it harder and harder to justify paying £280 to play Zelda (which is all I care about) when I can play it on my Wii U.

BUT! I just got asked by work to deliver some training and do some product demos on a Saturday. I assumed I'd just get a bit of extra pay, but I'll actually get £300. It's like the universe wants me to get a Switch. Right?

What games do you think would work really well on the Switch, being portable and all?

I think the biggest factor is extra screens and controllers being readily available. So stuff like Four Swords, Pac Man Versus, any asymmetric multiplayer really. Plus Micro Machines would be an obvious winner.

Given the severely restricted space on the Switch, I can't see Nintendo approving sale of a game that requires, not only an internet connection to download part of your game, but also an SD of an appropriate capacity to be bought and in the machine already.

PS4 games play off the HDD following an install, or stream install as required as I understand it.  Updates are downloaded to the console and applied on thee too.  The ps4 games with 500GB or more pre-installed though..

The carts are presumably some sort of SD card in a magic funky casing, with proprietary connections, like the 3DS ones (I think!)

Surely, the obvious answer is that there will be a bigger version of the cards which will cost more now, but cost less in a years time or something, and could be something that a firmware update could be used to read, or resurrect the old "2 disc games" scenario, though the duplication of assets on those must be crazy...

Compared to optical discs, which cost pence to print in volume, ever larger solid state will be costing pounds by comparison (as you have much more raw material used to make a game card twice the size at the same manufacturing node), it was the reason Capcom wanted to charge a $10 premium for Resident Evil on the 3DS until they came to a deal with Nintendo.

I nearly fell for that... then I realised that I can watch my very own unboxing in 9 days, I'm going to save the excitement for my console :)

Yip, that is part of launch day experience. I will not be watching some numptie unbox when this numptie will be doing it next week. :hat:

Yes all of these games were ones i had thought of too - good shout! Four Swords as a eshop title would be pretty great.

They'll still be supporting the 3DS, right?

I do hope that the live to the promise of creating proper home console experiences on the Switch. Zelda, full fat Mario etc. I hope it doesn't become another Vita with loads of indie games or DS conversions.

Strafe, buddy. The unique feature of the Switch is it's both. A full fat home console and a handheld. Both types of games will be supported.

Basically any Indie/downloadable title will be better on the Switch. I'll be waiting for Switch version of Sonic Mania and Yooka Laylee for sure.

Apart from the fact you need to spend another £60 or so for a decent dpad which is more suitable for many indie titles.

But, yes I obviously hope it gets a ton of indie support.

Blu rays actually cost a couple of dollars for volume print. The carts are rumoured to cost 10 dollars (That's with all the packaging etc, it was the amount quoted by The binding of issac devs).
