Where am I looking? Friends list? I'm not sure if i have linked.

Yeah but ignore my post, I think it just took my nickname from the old Apple friends app as I see you can just change your name in the Mario run settings...

I loaded up Fire emblem heroes and had to sign in again with new password etc so not sure how linked Mario run actually is

Really? That's a shame. Unless anyone has any other info, I guess I'll just cancel the order then.

EDIT: Actually, if someone wants to pay for me to ship it from my house to them, or pick it up from me in London or some other arrangement, I'd be fine with that.

That is tempting actually.

Where in London are you?

Someone told me pre-orders were being sold on eBay as stock shortages will drive up the price, but after having a quick look it doesn't seem to be the case. Are they likely to sell out? I'm still undecided about getting one before Christmas

I doubt it will sellout in the UK. Would be nice really to show the demand is high.

You can still preorder for launch at Amazon. Also I'm sure many, including myself, still have multiple switch orders and been too lazy to cancel one of them.

I better get on that!

Oh, my car passed its MOT! More relaxed about switch purchase now.

This accounts thing is very confusing. Do I have to register for a new one? How do you tell?

I have a profile on accounts.nintendo.com but my nickname is 'John' - that can't be my Nintendo gamer tag equivalent, right?

Go into the settings bit and select user ID - it will ask you to reset password and once does you can then create your 'gamertag'

I had a unique nickname for my NNID, didn't I?? I don't understand.

NNID is the system used on the Wii U and 3DS. Nintendo Account is the new system. It's used for My Nintendo, Miitomo, Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes and the Switch. You can sign up for one using your NNID (as well as Facebook, Twitter and Google). You can now choose a nickname to use. It doesn't automatically use your NNID handle.

It's a goddamn mess.

Nintendo Network is the online account system used by the Wii U and 3DS. Your "Nintendo Network ID" is your unique identifier (username) for that service.

The Nintendo Account system is Nintendo's latest attempt to bridge their previous online offerings under a single banner. It began as a replacement for the retired Club Nintendo reward system, but with the ability to link to social media profiles and to your Nintendo Network ID, it looks like it may be used as the primary accounts system for whatever online services will eventually be available on the Switch.

Until very recently, the primary identifier of Nintendo Accounts was your email address. Now, you can choose a "User ID", which will effectively be the username for your Nintendo Account. In other words, when logging in to your Nintendo Account, you can provide either your email address or your User ID with your password.

This NNID/Nintendo ID/Username stuff is so needlessly frustrating. I don't WANT to change my password, it's good already. And, I'm changing a password I'm happy with to register an ID that I already have. This is genuine madness, and is exactly the kind of thing that has people bitching about Nintendo's lack of ability when it comes to online.

So annoying, Nintendo won't send a verification code so I can link my NNID to a Nintendo Account. They also don't seem to provide any reasonable support to solve the issue.

Here's the only support solutions

Please try again later, or try the following:

Check that the email address you entered is correct.

Check that you have not entered an email address that you already registered.

Check your Spam/Junk email folder.

Make sure there are no filters in your email account that may be blocking emails from "accounts.nintendo.com".

None of which are the issue :( even tried a different email address.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what some of you irritated by, the user ID stuff has been no hassle for me. Furthermore, it appears I can change the name whenever I want, something that costs £8 on Xbox (last time I checked) and isn't possible on PlayStation.

You're clearly misunderstanding what we're irritated by. I'd like to get to that stage, but I'm waiting for an email that is seemingly not being sent. I'm not alone in this, as evidenced by several other posters above, and loads of my Nintendo-mad friends on Facebook.

I managed to do it via my phone which was already logged in cos I'd used it for Mario Run. Using the same webshite via desktop the email wasn't being sent

I'm beginning to think I should preorder Zelda from somewhere, cos I could see myself not getting it and dropping forty quid on Bomberman or some shite in Game in a panic..
