Just get a 2 amp wall thingy with a USB A port on it and it'll change all your devices as fast as they'll handle.  (iPhones draw 1 amp, iPad's 2 amps I believe).

Edit: I'm considering one of these for my desk at work: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Charger-RAVPower-Desktop-iSmart-Samsung/dp/B00GX3BKKW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1487604895&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+charger

Would do my iPhone/iPad, switch, headphones & a spare.

USB-C can in theory deliver enough power to run the PS4 Slim, so unless Apple cheaped out, there shouldn't be any problem powering a device as low powered as the NS, depends on the output of the power adaptor, how many Amps does it deliver at what Voltage, so like everything else, check the smallprint!

Right, we've had Micro SD Chat, and we've had Case Chat, but now we need USB Power Adaptor Chat.

The one that comes supplied with the Switch (and the one you can buy separately) is an all-in-one USB C to power adaptor, not like Apple's power adaptors where you can use any cable in the USB power adaptor.

The supplied one will live behind my TV, but I want another two so I don't have to keep unplugging the main one. Also the cable that comes with the all-in-one will probably be super short. Also they're £30 each.

I want to buy two of these 3.3ft USB 3.0 > USB C cables, but does anyone know what power USB adaptor I'd need?

Or are people doing something else about powering their Switch in handheld mode while the wife's asleep next to them in bed? What's everyone else doing?

I tried to have this serious topic discussed before - basically I'm either going for some £25 Nintendo spares or an Anker charger plus lead, the Anker won't be any cheaper but will have more USB slots to charge other stuff..

So I've been looking at things like this -

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-Charging-Multi-Port/dp/B00VTI8K9K/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1487604949&sr=8-4&keywords=anker+usb+charger

or

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-PowerPort-Family-Sized-Technology-Smartphones/dp/B00PK1IIJY/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1487604949&sr=8-6&keywords=anker+usb+charger

I don't know how many watts/amps will be needed but I don't want the std Anker usb chargers for a tenner as I don't want the usb lead poking out of it, I want it down firing like a iPhone charger if that makes sense...

All these non-USB-C specific power things only allow you to draw 12Watts max per channel, probably enough for a NS in portable mode, but not going to be enough for anything really power hungry.

Edit - As we know the mAh rating of the internal battery, 12Watts is plenty to both recharge it and even run the most power hungry games, as the battery is sub-20Wh. The Google Pixel C has a 34 Wh/9200 mAh battery running the same tech so even that could be recharged in ~3 hours using a bog standard fast charger.

Should one buy a USB C specific charger instead then for Switch or only if needing to charge more power hungry things?

This looks like a good substitute for the Nintendo charger but the lead comes out the wrong place for me :(

That one looks decent, actually. But if I get a multi-port adaptor like the other two you linked to  - even if it's only USB 3.0 - that means I can use it for my Apple Watch, iPhone and Switch, instead of having to use three separate power adaptors.

Yeah this is what I was worrying about. My Freesat HD box has a USB port on the back, which I use sometimes to charge my phone, but if I'm playing a game while it's plugged in, the battery is actually going down rather than charging. That's how shit the USB port is on that thing.

So I just wanted to make sure that any charger I buy will actually power and charge the device when I'm playing Zelda, for instance.

This is where I currently am, spending £30 to save some money as the Nintendo one seems expensive at £25...

The Freesat box likely only has a bog standard USB spec port, so 2.5 Watts max (0.5A at 5V, apply basic maths equation to work out power delivery).

Ah, right . Cheers.

Another question:

Is there any detriment to using a standard USB power adaptor with a USB 3.0 to USB C cable, over using a USB C to USB C cable in a USB C power adaptor?

Or will it not make a difference?

Because if it's not gong to make a jot of difference, I'll probably get this one that @Shimmyhill posted earlier.

I googled and It's 1.3gb on pc. 1.54gb on ps4.
I think the real question is how in the hell is the vita version bigger?

I did have the fan translation version, but I'd be surprised if they filled it with 2 gig of text! Baffling, still, it's a good game, if you have not yet played it, it's well worth going through if you like traditional JRPG's

I think for £6 more get the USB C one, thats my current plan - I mean Nintendo already robbed us for £30 on the price of the machine so whats another £6 ;)

Yeah, I mean the USB C one would be fine for Switch, but if there's an opportunity to get one multi-port USB adaptor that can power all my devices (and because Apple Watch and iPhone aren't USB C yet) I think I'll go for the USB 3.0 hub instead. Otherwise I'd have to get USB C to USB 3.0 cables for my other devices.

That looks interesting, although no idea what the game is about from that trailor of course :P

This is from the YouTube description:

Quote

State of Mind is a futuristic thriller game delving into transhumanism. The game explores themes of separation, disjuncture and reunification, in a world that is torn between a dystopian material reality and a utopian virtual future.

Employing multiple playable characters and two separate game worlds, State of Mind explores the existential drama that develops in a society on the brink of post-material existence.

You are Richard Nolan, a father and journalist from Berlin who discovers that he and his wife and son have been subjects to mind uploads. Richard’s upload, however, has gone wrong. As a result, he is still living in real-life reality, but an incomplete second version of his self also exists in a secret Virtual Reality project.

Upon realizing that he is literally a torn man, Richard sets out on a dramatic and dangerous search for salvation. He aims to reunite with his family, as well as with his own split self. On his way, he soon realizes that this journey isn’t only about him, but about the future of mankind.

Will the Wii USB network adaptor work on the switch (as it did on the Wii-U). Or are Ninty reaming you with a different £49.99 model?

It will yes. The only reason to get a new one, would be if the Switch supports the newer, faster, USB 3.0 versions (10/100/1000) as opposed to the previous USB 2.0 ones (10/100). If that's the case, you might want to get a new one to take advantage of the potential increase - but even then it's not essential really.

I think that's right, but somebody more technical will probably be along to correct me...

Ok, good to know.

Sorry for being out of the loop, but will Nintendo digital purchases also transfer to the new console? Like any of the virtual console stuff, or do you have to re-buy it all (again)?

Nobody knows as yet. Best guess is it will work the same way it previously has from Wii to Wii U - you'll have to buy them again, but will probably be able to do so at a reduced rate of a couple of quid or so. That is just a guess though - they've announced nothing official at all on that so far.
