People would have still moaned at £250. People would have still moaned if there was a pack-in. It's Nintendo. This is what happens.

I just checked the price of PS4 at launch, and that was £349. To be fair then, I'm actually inclined to agree with yourself and others, £280 for a new console which includes portable functionality isn't expensive, in fact with the new rumble tech, extra functionality of the joy con's and recent depreciation of the pound, it's a good price for the kit you're getting.

I guess my thinking was always that after the Wii U, Nintendo looked to be set on a course of relying almost exclusively on first and second party development, so I believed that what they needed was a cheap Gamecube style console, where the hardware would have the lowest possible barrier to entry in order to persuade those already invested in either a PS4 or XB1, to pick one up just to enjoy Nintendo games.

I think there's also merit in the strategy they've chosen, in fact I genuinely like the concept, but I do think it prices them out of that casual purchase territory, which I think would have been a springboard to selling a lot of games.

Does drawing a £50 line in the sand seem like an arbitrary decision to make? I guess, but it's not like I've sat and stroked my beard, whilst performing calculations in my head regards the exact cost to fun ratio I think the Switch will deliver; £230 is just the amount of good faith I have in the console at this point. You could say I'm not exactly cheered by the launch lineup.

Ultimately of course, it does all come down to the games. If E3 (or any other event for that matter) brings with it a flood of quality announcements, then the value of owning a Switch will shoot up, and for me personally, if they secure a Bayonetta 3 or Vanquish 2, then I'll gladly pay the asking price.

Either way, I didn't come into the thread to pour cold water on anything. I'm genuinely won over by the console itself and hope to own one, I just need more games to get excited about. :)

£350 in todays money is more like £400 now, add on brexit tax of £160 and the Switch is half the price a PS4 was on launch, too expensive my arse!

Each to their own, but I'm not worried about the launch line up at all. Having a new Zelda game puts it above the majority of the launches. For me anyway, the Wii launch line up was the last great one.

One two switch after trying it is a must buy for me, is expensive but it's a videogame that brings interactions from boardgames/social games  to videogamers.

Making weird faces in milking cows, putting off other players physically/in your actions all possible as controls are tactile with no need to look at the screen. Really unique and fun. I will - like wii sports only roll it out for multiplayer but for me is a unique fun looking game.

It's expensive compared to it's competitors.

BUT PORTABLE!

BUT JOYCONS!

Doesn't matter. It's too expensive and it will be bundled and reduced going into xmas.

I'd bet on one of: Splatoon2, ARMS or MK8D bundled (with 1,2, Switch as standard pack-in after it bombs) for £300.

Wii U was too expensive, more so than the Switch, and never reduced.

I won't have any trouble finding plenty of things to play on the Switch during the year, lineup is great imo. There are 9 games slated for a March release I want to buy and a couple more I'm interested in.

Wonder how many of these will be cancelled? Pretty sure we're still waiting for some of the Wii U "launch window" games.

Lets face facts; the only thing coming packed in with this for £280 is a bucket full of goodwill for Nintendo and a thimble full of hope that things are going to change. Three weeks in, we will have finished Zelda and we will all be desperately hoping that there will be an E3 miracle.

We'll be playing Bomberman and trying to convince ourselves that it's great and totally worth £50.

I'm just waiting for Sony and Microsoft to announce their totally original portable consoles. Xbox Go and Portable PlayStation.

This Sony patent was unearthed by a Gafer the other day. Filed in 2015 but only published recently.

In other, completely unrelated news: the guy that did the UI walkthrough and unboxing has been requested by Nintendo's lawyers to return it back to Nintendo, which he has complied with. Turns out he didn't actually get sent one early, but bought one that had been stolen from the US distributor.

The Twitter account of the guy that posted the photo of the Bomberman cart and box has mysteriously been deleted too.

Too late.  I've swapped our cow for some magic balls inside a controller.

Just imagine a Plok game using the HD rumble. Every time Plok shot off an arm you could feel the rumble of it shift from one side to the other. All thos elovely upgrades he could use with appropraite feelings, the hit of Rocky Plok, The blast of blunderbus Plok etc.

Basically what I'm saying is pony up 500 dollars, get yourself a dev kit and make a new one. You know you want too.

Although sticky balls could use the HD rumble...

I was watching a YouTube video about the unboxing guy having to return his Nintendo Switch.  The video had a YouTuber trying as hard as possible not to be libelous so it's difficult to understand exactly what shady method was used to acquire the early unit.  I want to know the full story because Mr Unboxer was claiming it mysteriously landed on his lap before he was (hd) rumbled :)

Interesting news in that the insides of the switch match those of the Foxcon leaker. He described an L shaped heat sink and two Ram modules. He also described the battery and many other things. However it gets more interesting when he stated some of the specs being better than those from eurogamer. A GPU speed of 930mhz and a CPU speed of 1.7 ghz. He also thought the GPU was Pascal based and could well have come to that conclusion after seeing the A2 revision number. TX1/TX2 could be a source of confusion.

While it's true that usually when a console launches it launches with all the games it's ever going to get I read that this time Nintendo are going for something different.

Different games released after the console launches.

So I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom are planning to release another as of yet unannounced title for the Switch. Only time will tell.

I think we all understand (and perhaps even enjoy) your intellectual post bursting as it is with wit and insight. However, I think even you can understand the point the original poster was making. If not let me help... Why the fuck are Capcom going on about how great Switch is if all they can be arsed to do for the fucking launch is trot out something that requires so little effort on their part and so much money on ours?

I'm glad you are so excited to wait for them to actually release something new though.

I'm startling to think you would defend Nintendo selling a kick in the bollocks as long as the boot had their logo on.

JUST YOU STEP OFF FOR SECOND THERE BUDDY!!

This is a brand new... Console is too small a word. This is a brand new device. Capcom love it. Just because they're not launching with RE Switch it doesn't mean anything. They love the Switch, that's a good thing and suggests they're working on some real barnstormers. Sure, all they could get ready for launch was Street Fighter. The Japanese will love that. There's literally nothing negative here.

Nintendo are all about announcing games which are close to release. Nintendo and it's third party partners have announced the minimum required to create massive amounts of hype. And that's enough for me.

"Earlier this week, individuals claimed to prematurely purchase a small number of Nintendo Switch systems from an unspecified retailer. Nintendo has determined these units were stolen in an isolated incident by employees of a U.S. distributor, with one system being illegally resold. The individuals involved have been identified, terminated from their place of employment and are under investigation by local law enforcement authorities on criminal charges.
