Nintendo Switch

The rumble sounds genuinely revolutionary from what we're used to. It's not had a meaningful update since the N64 rumble pack days, so it's high time something fresh was done with it. I'm growing increasingly confident about the Switch. The hardware looks swish and practical. The OS (whilst sparse) looks clean and easy to manage and the hardware sounds capable, even if it's not going to trouble the likes of PS4.

The third party support is probably the biggest concern, but then I'm not going to be looking at the Switch so I can have another box to play CoD on. What I'm hoping for, is that Nintendo follow on with their strategy of fostering second party studios and buying one off projects (like Bayonetta 2 and Devil's Third) so they can bolster their action lineup. Indeed I think The Switch is probably the best chance we've got of seeing Vanquish 2 and Bayonetta 3.

Yeah, I won't be day one, but with the first price drop and providing there's a solid slate of games on the system, I think it'll be a great buy.

As for the adverts  I wonder if they're hoping the YouTube generation picks up on all the publicity they're getting through that medium. Wouldn't hurt to hit the tv spots to make sure older people are aware though but I'd imagine they think they're likely to sell most of their launch stock anyway so why bother with a crap load of advertising now.

Holding off on release till you see a price drop will only send the signal to third parties that the system is in trouble and they'll stay away. If you want to see third party support you're going to have to buy in and show consumer confidence in the Switch. Self fulfilling prophecy man. Buy in.  Let's create the killer console we want.

You're not wrong of course. I'd be surprised if the year passed without one finding it's way under my TV, providing there's some sign of the sort of third person action titles I love having a presence of the system. :)

Let me tell you there won't be a price drop. However you've nailed your colours to the mast here and now if you do buy one without a price drop you're gonna be a liar. Robin 1, the liar. Has a ring to it.

I dunno, the last time Nintendo released a wildly successful home console it ended up having a grand total of four games come out over its entire lifespan that I actually liked enough to keep, and one of those was a rerelease; I've gotten considerably more enjoyment out of the two less successful systems that flanked it. Nintendo, like many companies, seem to put out their most interesting work (and fund other developers' most interesting work) when things aren't going smoothly for them.

(that said, it was at least a very convenient way of playing the games of the previous system)

Well if the system plays host to the sorts of games I hope it will, I'll bear the shame gladly. ;) I do think it's over priced though. At £280 it's just the wrong side of comfortable for me. I was hoping for £230 or £250 with a game. Still, as I say, it does at least look the part this time out. When you compare it aesthetically to the Wii U, it looks like a far more serious proposition.

It's not overpriced.

The line of thinking where £280 is too expensive and I won't buy it but £250 is ok and I will buy it just seems strange.

I know there has to be a line whereby something becomes too expensive to purchase, but £280 cannot surely be it.

If you don't want it then sure, that's fine but pretending that it's because it's £30 too expensive is just daft.

Its mental isn't it, I bought some Clark Shoes in the sales the other week fro £30, should have been £75 and while int he shop they didnt feel perfect they fitted fine - fast forward a week and I just can't live with them, all worth a gamble at £30 and nothing much has been lost - unless its buying a console that costs a couple of hundred quid, of course then £30 is a total barrier to entry

Due to the affect of brexit on our pounds I don't see it as that expensive.

But of course, a price tag of £249.99 will help it sell better.

The real thing that gets me is lack of a pack in. 1 - 2 Switch should have been that title. I wish Zelda supported HAD rumble just to experience it.

On a serious note...

Sonos just raised the price of the play 1 by £30 to £199 because brexit, technically the Switch is less than £250 predicted price last year already as its launched with the forecast price due to brexit :(

We should be moaning about the lack of information regards eshop on launch, I'm gonna buy some extra games in the launch week because I'm weak so put me out of my misery Nintendo!

Look, we're all going a little crazy with excitement, we're starting to look for flaws because so far it looks too good to be true. But there's only two weeks to go. Let's stay united and we can get through this.

Lets face facts; the only thing coming packed in with this for £280 is a bucket full of goodwill for Nintendo and a thimble full of hope that things are going to change. Three weeks in, we will have finished Zelda and we will all be desperately hoping that there will be an E3 miracle.

3 weeks in and I'll have got bored of free roam, cooking Zelda and will be gaining enjoyment from playing 1,2 Switch with other people, where the loser of each round takes a shot, it will be stupid and fun, and I'll be shit faced, every one will have had a laugh and my purchase will be justified, then it will g back in it's dock to charge :P
